  • To everyone asking what it feels like, imagine belly flopping into a pool, but the water turns to air right when you hit it, or someone slams a door in your face but it turns to wind as it hits you. It slaps your clothes against your body with enough force it kind of stings. Overall it’s not that bad, it’s actually fun! I explained all this in the video… but the first shot knocked my mic off and I was stepping on it when I talked about it haha.

  • I liked how easy that video effect was to add. Something you might want to look at is "Live Video Magnification" at least I think that is the right software name. I sometimes download YT explosion videos just to enhance the compression wave. But I also use it for personal projects like seeing if the way trees bend in the wind can predict which ones will fall on me. Or if you want to see how vibrations move through mechanical equipment. It also does color change magnification so you can watch your face change color with your pulse.

  • Had an idea for a while. Using multiple of these or even larger vortex cannons installed above the structures around it in cities and areas that are prone to tornado activity. Would be interesting to test the theory if multiple cannons could break up a funnel cloud or even an active tornado.

    @user-rt7vl9ky3r@user-rt7vl9ky3r12 күн бұрын
    • Weather formations are very large. According to the U.S. NIH, a typical tornado clocks in with a total kinetic energy (TKE) of 62.1 GJ, or the power to move more than 62 _billion_ kilograms by one meter, or smaller amounts much farther, if that power was directed into one vector. One giant VRAD cannon did not knock over a skinny KZheadr weighing perhaps 65kg. When you're talking "multiple" cannons....imagine typical Nerf dart guns versus an angry hippo or elephant. There is a point at which it would absolutely overwhelm the target. That point is _absurdly_ high. 65 is pretty close to 62, so let's just estimate a little further and divide that first number. One billion cannons _might_ knock tornado Kevin out of the sky, if he's an average or smaller tornado. It probably would not do anything to the weather in the area that spawned the tornado and may spawn more. You also have to factor in recoil at the base, which wasn't featured in either video but is equal and opposite to the force of the blast, short though it was. The truck trailer moved by some measurable amount. Horizontal rocket engines atop tall buildings might not be good for keeping those buildings intact before the tornado hits (or misses) them.

    • If you're close enough. That's what the ear protection (sometimes just hands over ears) is for. You can induce ringing in ears (temporary damage) just by clapping your hands by them.

  • Next time you get to play with the vortex cannon you should see what the effects are on remote control planes or drones since the idea was tossed around, during WWII, of using a vortex cannon to disrupt allied bombers over Europe. Cool to see if it was even possible or not.

  • If you modified this to essentially be a (Combustion) Light Gas Gun, would it be more powerful? Also adding Colorant Injection like a Fog Generator or maybe add in extra fuel (of different types too) may air in visibility. Also aiming tech? Either way absolutely stellar build, I’ll take 6 of em plz!

  • Dude, that vortex gun could be a good anti-riot weapon. Loud, dealt something to your body, but basically 'harmless'.
