Making Doc Holliday's Shoulder Holster & CrossDraw Rig from 1993's "Tombstone"

Part 2 Here: • Making Doc Holliday / ...
My take on the gun leather props worn by actor Val Kilmer (as gunslinger Doc Holliday) in 1993's "Tombstone". A truly great western film. This is called the "Huckleberry Rig" in some circles. This will be a two part episode. The first is the cross draw holster and cartridge belt used in the epic showdown between Doc Holliday and Johnny Ringo. The second part will be the shoulder holster. Make sure to turn on notifications so you don't miss part 2!
Stamps used on the holster:
Craftool N300
Craftool S864 & Z-S705 (used in combination because I didn't have quite the right size seeder)

  • I just wrapped on a movie where Tombstone was filmed (Mescal Movie Set). Tombstone IS an epic movie! You did the rig justice. Love your work.

    • I agree....but even though it was completely overshadowed by "Tombstone", I thought Dennis Quaid gave a legendary performance as Doc in "Wyatt Earp"....there were some similarities, but I thought both actors showed different aspects of a very complex and fascinating man either way, both actors gave a performance for the ages that would be hard to equal

  • You sir are true artist. I have always wished that I were more prone to being able to make things with my own hands. I would give anything to be able to put together a rig as beautiful as you did. I am so jealous of your talent but I am glad that people like you are around that can build things as beautiful.

  • You Sir do incredible work! Watching your videos is interesting, intriguing, calming, relaxing, entertaining and nostalgic. My family actually had a leatherworks establishment than operated during the height of the Old West era; all it took to kill it was the Great Depression. I hope to someday, perhaps in retirement, scrape up some money to build myself a small shop and in some small way resurrect it. In the meantime however I will more than likely be contacting you for a holster or two or three or five for my open carry. Thank you for sharing yout incredible talent and beautifully representing our culture and history.

  • Thanks for doing such good work and showing the little tricks so that others can apprentice from you on our own schedule…. I recently sat down to figure out how much custom leatherwork I needed done (pistol rigs, shoulder holsters, rifle scabbards, a few knife and tool sheaths, gym bag, camelbak, carry on…) and realized that I needed to get back into leatherwork and make them myself, probably needed another retirement hobby anyway, so thanks for the pointers and demonstrations.

  • Bad Ass!! I'm a woodworker in tenon and mortise and have a real appreciation for the old crafts. Also Tombstone is a favorite. Fury is a good WWII with a nice shoulder rig for 1917 revolver, still available commercially for 1911 or M9. Looking forward to your Doc Holliday shoulder rig build..

    • @@christiandelestrade2980 I understand your position. The deciding factor for me was that I eventually will be getting into making lighter-weight items such as bags, satchels, wallets, etc... As long as the class 26 can sew a liner material onto my heavy veg-tan, then it works for me. That's why I bought a machine to begin with (sewing liners by hand is painstakingly tedious.) The main seam of a holster or sheath I almost always saddle stitch by hand anyway.
