Part 2 Here: • Making Doc Holliday / ...
My take on the gun leather props worn by actor Val Kilmer (as gunslinger Doc Holliday) in 1993's "Tombstone". A truly great western film. This is called the "Huckleberry Rig" in some circles. This will be a two part episode. The first is the cross draw holster and cartridge belt used in the epic showdown between Doc Holliday and Johnny Ringo. The second part will be the shoulder holster. Make sure to turn on notifications so you don't miss part 2!
Stamps used on the holster:
Craftool N300
Craftool S864 & Z-S705 (used in combination because I didn't have quite the right size seeder)
I just wrapped on a movie where Tombstone was filmed (Mescal Movie Set). Tombstone IS an epic movie! You did the rig justice. Love your work.
I like ur channel hombre
@@BigCod618 Thank you much!
Wow! What's movie (if you can reveal)?
@@RoadAgentLeather I can't reveal the name right now, sadly. Hopefully soon. The set still looks good, though!
I'd go so far as to say Tombstone is the perfect movie.
Beyond the smell, I love the sound of new saddle leather. There's something about the creaking I find soothing.
No one can ever play Doc Holliday again. Val Kilmer has made that role his own.
agreed.
I agree....but even though it was completely overshadowed by "Tombstone", I thought Dennis Quaid gave a legendary performance as Doc in "Wyatt Earp"....there were some similarities, but I thought both actors showed different aspects of a very complex and fascinating man either way, both actors gave a performance for the ages that would be hard to equal
Beautiful work. I don't think most people understand the skill, time and patience it takes to make something that beautiful.
You sir are true artist. I have always wished that I were more prone to being able to make things with my own hands. I would give anything to be able to put together a rig as beautiful as you did. I am so jealous of your talent but I am glad that people like you are around that can build things as beautiful.
You Sir do incredible work! Watching your videos is interesting, intriguing, calming, relaxing, entertaining and nostalgic. My family actually had a leatherworks establishment than operated during the height of the Old West era; all it took to kill it was the Great Depression. I hope to someday, perhaps in retirement, scrape up some money to build myself a small shop and in some small way resurrect it. In the meantime however I will more than likely be contacting you for a holster or two or three or five for my open carry. Thank you for sharing yout incredible talent and beautifully representing our culture and history.
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for doing such good work and showing the little tricks so that others can apprentice from you on our own schedule…. I recently sat down to figure out how much custom leatherwork I needed done (pistol rigs, shoulder holsters, rifle scabbards, a few knife and tool sheaths, gym bag, camelbak, carry on…) and realized that I needed to get back into leatherwork and make them myself, probably needed another retirement hobby anyway, so thanks for the pointers and demonstrations.
Man I could never do this. What a gift and talent.
You are correct sir, it is a great movie. I want the shoulder rig for my Ruger New Vaquero 4.75 I tried to make one & failed miserably 😢 You do very nice work 👍👍
Thanks for subscribing!
Outstanding!!!! Johnny Ringo hasn't a chance in hell against a rig like that! Can't wait to see the next video.
Bad Ass!! I'm a woodworker in tenon and mortise and have a real appreciation for the old crafts. Also Tombstone is a favorite. Fury is a good WWII with a nice shoulder rig for 1917 revolver, still available commercially for 1911 or M9. Looking forward to your Doc Holliday shoulder rig build..
Gorgeous work. Doesn't get any better.
It was such a treat to see this rig being made! You did splendidly!
As below, it’s a treat to see a real craftsman at work:) Bravo
Just came accross this. Now my new favorite channel.
OLD Leather Smith here, very very nice work, you nailed it. The only difference is Hand Sewing, not machine. GOD'S BLESSINGS ✝️⚾🙃
Truly a lost art Quality leather products are a once in a career/lifetime opportunity to purchase and use.
Beautifully done, sir. Been thinking about making a cross draw rig for a while, so thank you for this.
Awesome Holster remembering an Awesome Classic Movie!! Thank you for sharing!!
Fine piece of work especially the banding idea. Looking forward to the (upper) cross draw rig
You always amaze me. There is nothing more relaxing than watching you work..
Awesome work! I wanted to thank you for inspiring me to get into leatherwork. I stumbled across one of your videos a few months ago and I finally decided to go to a Tandy store and give leatherworking a shot. Thanks for all the great videos and tips!
Very nicely done Sir! I always learn something new every time I watch a video of yours that I want to try next time. Thank you, can't wait to see the shoulder rig!
my cousin dennis yoder in hamburg pa was a pro holster maker. he wanted to teach me but it was not for me. he passed away about 15yrs ago. great guy.
Simply Beautiful!

A fun build to watch. Excellent work.
I don't know why your video popped up in my KZhead feed, but glad it did. From flat piece of leather to finished product was fascinating to watch. 👍

I'm very amazed at your work. Thank you for doing your videos
The tools are intoxicating. So cool. So precise. So sharp. I bet you've learned to be careful over the years. 😝
Wow. That was a great video. Thanks for posting this.
I read somewhere that Doc Holliday's sidearm on his side was a black powder Captain ball 1851 Navy given to him by his daddy so I find your picture to be more. Correct than the actual movie
I am in awe sir. I wish I could afford one of your creations for a 4.5" Blackhawk.
Absolutely awesome!!!
Really enjoy your videos. I don't mind if they are long at all. Thank you!
Outstanding
Well done sir. That's and excellent looking rig. The background music is nice and mellow.
Amazing work. just beautiful

I wish they had those strap cutters with the bar on top 50 years ago when I started leather work, I laid my hand open with one
Beautifully done,👌👌👌👌
Really like that walking foot machine. Good work dude!
Very sweet, nice tools, and a gift for them.
Excellent job, I like it !
I believe Will Ghormley made some of the gun leather for Tombstone. He sold some of the patterns to Tandy. I made the Johnny Ringo from his pattern and he sold me the conchos he made and used on the original.
I have that pattern! Will Ghormley makes some great stuff.
Every video i watch i get great tips, thank you
Beautiful job

OUTSTANDING. 🤠🦅
It's a pleasure to see your work. Tombstone is great movie. I always been fan of westerns. Subscribed. Going to watch previous vids. I always wanted a right hand draw with a cross draw rig combo. Like to make my own. Thx.
I used to make my own holsters when I was in college. I could have really used your videos back then! Watching you do it makes me remember how much fun it was. Is Tandy Leather even still around?
You're better off going to Springfield Leather Co. sometimes they even have old Tandy patterns & stuff in stock ☺️
very nice work
Very nice!
Thank you! Cheers!
Sir, this is one of the most elegant two holders I have seen. I’m wondering if you have a pattern available? Thank you, kraig Jillson , bootmaker 😂
Excellent
Beautiful. I would be very proud to wear that, but I live in the UK!
Emigrate to the USA,not only could you wear that, you can own a gun to go in it.
Beautiful work! May I ask you which sewing machine are you using? Thank you
Hi! It's a Cobra Class 26
Thank I you. I just got one! ❤ Some friends were telling me to get a class 4 for making holsters. "Maybe later if it's really necessary?" Then it's wonderful to hear from a very talented and specialized holster maker. I really enjoy your videos. I am learning a lot. Thanks again! Be well
Hi May I also ask what thread and needle # are you using? Thanks
@@christiandelestrade2980 I understand your position. The deciding factor for me was that I eventually will be getting into making lighter-weight items such as bags, satchels, wallets, etc... As long as the class 26 can sew a liner material onto my heavy veg-tan, then it works for me. That's why I bought a machine to begin with (sewing liners by hand is painstakingly tedious.) The main seam of a holster or sheath I almost always saddle stitch by hand anyway.
Wow that's awesome
I love your selection of tools ,what and were from ? Beautiful workmanship I'm just getting started Thanks for the inspiration
Thanks! Most of my tools come from Tandy.
@@RoadAgentLeather thank you much
Just earned yourself another subscription from me. Looks awesome!👍
Thanks for subbing!
"Tombstone"......Love that fucking movie. Must have watched it 100 times. It's up there with "Goodfellas". Val Kilmer should have WON best actor Oscar. The man was robbed. ------Great video!!! "Say when"!
Awesome
Come on, come on! Oh Johnny! Come on! You're no daisy, you're no daisy at all. Poor soul, he was too high strung...
Saludos muy buen trabajo👍👍👍
That skull duggery inspired holster wouldve been absolutely perfect for danny trejos character in the movie dead in tombstone and dead again in tombstone
Another awesome video! Love the way you put the videos together, they are on point and informative. Where can I send you pics of stuff you've inspired me to make?
roadagentleather@gmail.com. It's on the "About Me" tab of my home channel
Really, really want this.
Sweet !
Very Cool!!!
I wish you could make one of those for my 45 Long Colt.
Tombstone is by far my favorite movie ever made this is amazing work! If you don’t mind, where did you get the holster template? I’d like to make my own version!
NICE!!
