The Michael Jackson: 30th Anniversary Celebration was a 2001 concert show and television special by Michael Jackson. It was staged in Madison Square Garden in New York City on September 7 and 10, 2001. In late November 2001, the CBS television network aired the concerts as a two-hour special in honor of Jackson's thirtieth year as a solo entertainer (his first solo single, "Got to Be There", was recorded in 1971). The show was edited from footage of the two performances. The show was watched by 30 million viewers on CBS when it aired later the same year.
The shows sold out in 2 hours. Ticket prices were among the most expensive ever for an event; the best seats cost $10,000 and included a dinner with Jackson and a signed poster. The show was choreographed by Glenn Douglas Packard and Brian Thomas, who were nominated for an Emmy Award for Outstanding Choreography. It was presented by David Gest, World Events LLC, and Clear Channel Entertainment. Jackson reportedly earned $7.5 million for each of the two concerts. The concert's official box-office taking was $10,072,105 for both concerts.
To some fans, Jackson appeared more disoriented in the first concert, as he only did one short moonwalk and improvised the ending of the "Billie Jean" performance. In 2011, presenter David Gest claimed that Jackson was on drugs during the concerts in the documentary Michael Jackson: The Life of an Icon; however, Jackson himself explained that he merely had not rehearsed for the first concert. Contradictorily, in his book You Are Not Alone: Michael Through a Brother's Eyes, brother Jermaine Jackson said that during this time Michael was taking Demerol, a pain-relieving medicine with psychotropic effects. The show attracted numerous celebrities, including basketball players, actors, and other musicians. The two concerts were the only times Jackson performed any song from from his album "Invincible" live. - Wikipedia

  • He did a lot of hospital visits, and orphanages just as much as he did his concerts! Those he helped abused & tortured him & assassin his image! Even in his last will 20% of his wealth got donated to charities! His music is full of messages if they can follow! The US media tried to ruin their own national treasure by calling him names! I love this man, he was the humble one despite of success! Your music & creative dance moves lives MJ even your unique fashion sense! You are indeed a gifted creation! King of Music! True Philanthropist! From 5-50 years old you’ve been performing to people! He gave it all! People abuse your money, talent & kindness! Those who tried to ruin you using your LOVE for children never succeeded! I will never judge you MJ coz I'm a human being, too! Blessed your soul! I thank God in Heaven for creating such a masterpiece Michael Jackson! Rest in Peace MJ!

  • I wonder if there will be anyone else watching Michael Jackson's videos in 2022? Well here I am. Here in Mexico City on March 30, 2020 watching, enjoying and of course missing that extraordinary artist and beautiful human being that Michael Jackson was. And the more I see and hear him, the more I admire it. Michael in my opinion was not only The King of pop, rock and soul. He was also an extraordinary humanist , activist and a extremely sensitive men. I think Michael had more than one mission in his life and he fulfilled them all. My only regret is that she didn't have more time to see her children grow up. Honestly, both in life and after his death, Michael did make a better world to me.

  • Nevermind the talent and insane level of showmanship, he was just an extraordinary human being. Seemed to get screwed at every turn in his life. Out of all the people in his life he maybe had 3 or 4 true friends that really cared for him as a person, not a commodity. Yet after wading all the darkness not one drop of it ever seeped into his heart or soul. So kind and such a deep love for humanity it almost made him seem naive, but he wasn't, he just kept faith that even the people that hurt him the most still had good in them and were probably just hurting too in their own way. RIP King!!!! ❤❤

  • The greatness of Michael Jackson is his pure generous soul and his huge incomparable talent as musician and entertainer . There won t be another Michael Jackson! Keep preciously his songs, short films and all videos of his incredible worlwide concerts, now all in KZhead . MJ gave all of himself , heart , love and energy to his fans! To the world he gave humanitarian commitment which was his strong concern: " he did as many concerts as orphanages and hospitals " in all his life and left a legacy to continue his charity . FOREVER A LEGEND MICHAEL !

I had so many questions for my mom after it aired I just asked her questions about him for days. And kept asking her to sing his songs for me. There was no KZhead or anything I was 10. Had never bought a CD either. Went to the store bought Michael Jackson’s Greatest Hits History and played the whole CD 75 Trillion times. Then LWMJ came out and the addiction get 50 trillion times more intense. Amazing.

    • You're more than a fan of the King of Pop, you became a devotee of the God of Pop. I grew up listening to MJ, born same year as MJ. I appreciated his greatness as a singer and entertainer, -a prodigy of sorts because he had a musical ear and perfect pitch. I did not like every one of his songs and certain dance routines or antics, but it's not uncommon for people to favour some songs and dismiss other songs as unimportant to them. Thriller and Bad left me cold quite frankly. I also am guilty of calling him whacks jack more than once, because I had believed the media that MJ was hell bent on lightening his skin tone and nose reconstruction to the likeness of Diana Ross. I now think there was a whole lot more to this, not mere vanity at all. I believe he battled infections that the public didn't hear about, except perceiving him as OCD and freaked out by germs, hence appearing on stage behind a germ barrier made of perspex . Doctors have a lot to answer for. Big fharma whores, a lot of them. The painkillers and sleep aids messed up a lot of lives and caused premature deaths, particularly if alcohol was in the mix, but even with no alcohol, the truth about these pain killers did eventually come out, eg anti-inflammatory meds ibuprofen et al cause stomach ulcers. Targin, lyrica, Oxycodone plus half dozen others cause anything from depression, cognitive impairment, Seizures, Irregular heart beat, cancer, coma. The

• SO MANY MEMORIES! I became an instant fan when the Jackson Five released their first album, and I’m still a fan. Not only that, my sister and I begged our parents to buy tickets for the J5 (that’s what some of us fans called them back in the 70s) concert in Seattle Washington. We were living in Tacoma at the time, so our family and one of my friends who was also a J5 fan went there in our blue Chevy station wagon. When we got to downtown Seattle, a long white limousine passed us, and we caught a glimpse of the Jacksons talking to each other and laughing. We immediately erupted into very loud screams, which caused our little brother to start raucously laughing. Our parents didn’t see the limo, so they thought the three of us were being way too emotional over “them Jackson boys concert”. 🥺🙁 Then Pops (our nickname for our father) said, “Y’all hallucinating over them Jackson boys!” No, we weren’t. But that got even more excited for the indescribably fantastic show we saw that day in Seattle. The three of us screamed so much that we couldn’t talk after the concert ended. I’ll never forget it! Thank you so much, Jackson brothers! 🥰😍😍😍😍
