I remember growing up in the 90s, she was brave enough to be herself, be creative and evolve her music. Because she was being different the media/chart/music shows would completely ridicule her a LOT. When you listen to a bjork song, you honestly couldn’t tell if it was released in the 90s or right now….that’s how far ahead she was with her music. She put her critics to shame.

I had a friend show me her videos about 6 months ago and I keep coming back to listen to her. He had thought and told me this music came out within the last few years and I believed him too. We literally thought this was new stuff. Both of us are very avid music enthusiasts too, I listen to all kinds of music.

Really? I grew in the same era and although I seem to remember people thought she was brilliant even back then. The gossip media certainly had a field day with her, but when it comes to music I feel like Bjork has always been thought of as incredibly influential and ahead of her time. Madonna wanted to work with her. Peter Jackson wanted her to sing the end theme to the second Lord of the Rings movie. She wasn't languishing in obscurity waiting to be appreciated 30 years later, that's for sure.

The video is actually extremely dark on an apocalyptic level. When the publisher falls out of love, all books are unwritten and all people and buildings get devoured by the bushes and the trees. The city turns into a forest with the empty book buried deep inside the ground, until she finds it again while digging and everything repeats itself in an infinite loop.

Hi, I really love this song. Even when I didn't know lyrics (English isn't my first language). And now that I've read the lyrics, I still don't fully understand its meaning Could you tell me your interpretation of the lyrics of this song? I would appreciate it very much
@elizabethstre16863 жыл бұрын
@@elizabethstre1686 Hi, I must admit I'm not really sure of its meaning as the lyrics are quite mysterious and English is also not my first language, but here is my interpretation : First, this song is the sequel to the song Isobel, which is on the album Post ( which is itself the sequel to Human Behaviour I think ), and who narrates the adventures of a girl named Isobel, born in an isolated forest. She lives alone until a big city emerges and she discovers a New life. I think then that the title " Bachelorette " refers to the loneliness of Isobel before going to the city. So, in " Bachelorette ", Isobel arrives to the city ( that's why the instrumentation sounds like a train ) and discovers a whole new world. She's really excited ( that's why she says " I'm a fountain of blood in the shape of a girl " ) because she discovers new sides of herself, like her sexuality. I think this song is an expression of everything Isobel feels in the city, she's " hypnotized by the whirl ", as she said in the song. At the end of the song, I think she probably returns to the forest, that's why we hear an accordion, and the sequel to this song is " Alarm Call ", where we can see in the video Isobel back in the forest, testing her boundaries and limits after her experience in the city. I think the story of Isobel is related to Björk, who was born in Iceland but then moved to London and discovered a new world. That remains my own intepretation, as I think many interpretations are possible, I hope it will be useful to you :)

I'm a fountain of blood In the shape of a girl You're the bird on the brim Hypnotised by the whirl Drink me, make me feel real Wet your beak in the stream Game we're playing is life Love's a two way Leave me now, return tonight Tide will show you the way If you forget my name You will go astray Like a killer whale Trapped in a bay I'm a path of cinders Burning under your feet You're the one who walks me I'm your one-way street I'm a whisper in the water Secret for you to hear You're the one who grows distant When I beckon you near You might also like Leave me now, return tonight Tide will show you the way If you forget my name You will go astray Like a killer whale Trapped in a bay I'm a tree that grows hearts One for each that you take You're the intruder's hand I'm the branch that you break

Oh my god, it's the book video! After 15 years, finally found it again... and of course it was a Björk song.
Yes people usually throw ‘ahead’ of her time very loosely but in this instance it’s very true
💯
I grew up in the 90's an everydbody was absolutely IN LOVE with Bjork, she was litteraly one of the most admired artist at the time, this song in particular was everywhere. So we propbably lived in different countries :)

"I'm a fountain of blood in the shape of a girl". This song is to real. She really is a genius of the disenchantment of the modern age.
goes to notice that some "Sjòn" wrote the lyrics to this song
First time i've heard it as "i'm a fountain of love in the shape of a gun". I was thirteen years old and it was really cool for me))
don't think this line has anything to do with the age we live in specifically. being a fountain of blood is simply a sensation, when you become aware of the sheer volumes of blood coursing through you.
one day , i found a big book buried deep in the ground , i opened it , but all the pages were blank and to my surprise , it started writing itself one day , i found a big book buried deep in the ground .

Mmmmmm yesss!
Recently discovered her. I can’t say I’m accustomed to her style or completely understand it, but there’s something about her music that sparks curiosity and raw beauty. I love this video.
Omg same! I gave Bjork's discography a chance this year because her albums' covers are so interesting. I used to listened only to "Army of Me", "I Miss You" and "Venus as a Boy" but after listening her albums entirely one by one I just got obsessed
I'm a fountain of blood In the shape of a girl You're the bird on the brim Hypnotised by the whirl Drink me, make me feel real Wet your beak in the stream Game we're playing is life Love's a two way dream Leave me now, return tonight Tide will show you the way If you forget my name You will go astray Like a killer whale Trapped in a bay I'm a path of cinders Burning under your feet You're the one who walks me I'm your one way street I'm a whisper in the water Secret for you to hear You're the one who grows distant When I beckon you near Leave me now, return tonight Tide will show you the way If you forget my name You will go astray Like a killer whale Trapped in a bay I'm a tree that grows hearts One for each that you take You're the intruder's hand I'm the branch that you break
The funny thing about this song is it's arguably her song with the greatest lyrics, and it's also the song that she had someone else write the lyrics for haha.
Nathan Aaron I'd have a hard time arguing it to be her best written piece. Hyperballad being much better written and pagan poetry being a far more beautiful atmosphere. Great song but I wouldn't go as far as to say best.
frankie d it’s still mind-blowing to me how someone who was so young at the time could write such evocative, mature lyrics, while also spearheading the popularization of a genre, while still subverting said genre. I saw her @ Pitchfork the last year before I moved from Chicago, & I’ll never forget it. I was like 15 feet away from her. Amazing show.

I remember the strangeness of watching this video after midnight or maybe 2 o'clock in the morning in MTV Brazil around 1998. It was so different from everything that I have seen. For me Bachelorette video illustrates very well Walter Benjamins's concept of the narrator and experience in crisis.

My favorite Bjork video! I love how it's a story within a story and then it all turns to nature, which is where it started. Brilliant.
yea, it could be interpreted so many different ways. Like how fame and the greed of the industry takes a toll on her, you get chewed and spit out, it all repeats itself, she's trapped, and in the end shes back in nature, where she belongs. I think the comments don't praise enough the song itself. This is a real epic timeless masterpiece here, and one of my favourite songs ever. This is so theatrical, and the composition is really unique and ahead of its time. Björk's vocals are ridiculously awesome and very emotional, she's really an amazing artist.
Hi, I really love this song. Even when I didn't know lyrics (English isn't my first language). And now that I've read the lyrics, I still don't fully understand its meaning Could you tell me your interpretation of the lyrics of this song? I would appreciate it very much
@@elizabethstre1686 Hi, I must admit I'm not really sure of its meaning as the lyrics are quite mysterious and English is also not my first language, but here is my interpretation : First, this song is the sequel to the song Isobel, which is on the album Post ( which is itself the sequel to Human Behaviour I think ), and who narrates the adventures of a girl named Isobel, born in an isolated forest.
@@poesie_paienne Thank you so much for taking time to answer. That was very useful and informative. Now I know what songs I'll listen un order to make my own interpretation . Thanks and have a good day 😁

A work of art. 👍 Tells the story in just a few minutes as if it were an entire film. There is a metaphysical intelligence spread in every minimal detail of the image. A beauty of rare charm! /... The music sounds, curiously, a bit like certain theme songs from 1970s crime dramas... 💙

Metaltards try not to tell everyone they are metaltards challenge difficulty: IMPOSSIBLE 🤯

@@siriusblack8786you act as an ignorant person. First, there is much 'artsy' metal music, especially in its progressive/avant-guarde/exptreme subgenres. Check out maudlin of the well, for example. Metal is not just Metallica, you know? Second, Bjork is not that experimental/avant-guarde. It's more like creative art pop. Her music videos were on MTV, come on. This is the first time ive heard this song (i dont get out much) and its f-g brilliant. God i love Bjork. I bought her records in the 90's but she scares me a bit. Every time i see her and listen to her voice at the same time i get this weird feeling in my heart like a jump or a squeeze. Its weird. She is fascinating to me but i dont know why. i totally understand how crazy people can obsess about her. Anyway i dont like feeling crazy/weird so i dont watch alot of her videos but im glad youtube sent me here to watch this. Great song. Thankyou Bjork you living legend and slightly supernatural deity.
It's funny i can see how she would intimidate guys. As a girl she spoke to my inner self. I could always find lyrics that i could relate to. I can see though as a man, looking from the outside at this beautiful fiery creature how they could be intimidated. To me it was empowering.
@@abandonedmuse Yes i see that, i dont feel intimidated as such (intimidate seems like a favourite word from the tv nowadays though) but she scares me because she makes me feel a bit crazy. i like her too much and in a way that i dont like any other celeb. i could easily obsess over her. I think she is the most powerful woman in entertainment in some ways and i can only describe her as slightly supernatural.
Merci pour cette traduction ~

This song change my life, the image of a tree of hearts defined a state in me, gracias Björk
I love her so much. I always cry like a baby every time i play Bachelorette or Unravel.
All hail your Queen: Björk!
Thanks for giving us opportunity to review thisMasterpiece !!!😢😢Bjork is pure genius.....
One of the best short stories filmed in the ART cinema history...
All of these older songs of hers give me goosebumps. I grew up on this.
Sounds like a great plot for a movie
That shot of the first publisher at 3:42 getting sad hits me like a powerhouse every time.
Bowie, Lennox, Björk - Visionary artists of our time.
happy birthday!
"I'm a fountain of blood, in the shape of a girl"...achingly beautiful lyrics comprise this song.
This is fantastic! Thank you Bjork! How many years we had to squint our eye trying to decipher the videos in 144p quality, and now this beauty!
bjork is one of the best female artist of our era. so underrated...
What wonderful visual storytelling, about visual storytelling! Russian dolls & storytelling genius. Absolutely love this. I've adored the song for a long time, now I adore the video too. Awesome.
this video is awesome! it is very good to teach students about narratives, metalanguage, mise en abyme, and a lot more... incrível!!!
4:14 sorry but i laughed my ass off when the guy turned into a bush lmfao
That what are you doing isn't music, it's art.
and then my day couldnt go wrong anymore, still one of my fav videos of all time
This is FUCKIN BRILLIANT!!! DAMN, I miss this era of time. Would give anything to go back to originality. 😩🥺
It took me back to the 90s. A piece of art. You dont see artists so creative anymore.
The greatest song of all time, idc
I’m mesmerized how her music so closely resembles my life and my feelings. My capacity to feel pain is equal to my capacity to feel this deeply and resonate with a song of this nature. I don’t fight the pain anymore
one of my favorites ever ❤
Was amazed the first time I saw Björk and it still brings amazement today. She is an amazing artist that will always be beautiful with words and visualizations.
One of the best music videos & song ever.
Remember this from my childhood. We watched it on MTV Russia. Such a nostalgia. Didn’t understand her music until growing old. Now finally I get this vibe!
This is still, and forever will be, a masterpiece song out of a masterpiece album. So many years have gone by so far, but the beauty didn't gather any dust, it still shines.
This is definitely a classic! I remember seeing this late night on MTV when they actually used to show music videos. When music and videos actually meant something. I've always been captivated by the storytelling and imagery in her videos. Thank you Bjork!!! 🤗🤗🤗😍😍😍
This is literally my favourite video of all time. Thank you
Beautiful Bjork. This is your finest moment. The song and video are perfect.
Why has no one introduced me to this? This video is art, and the video elevates it
I like this song so much🥰
Love
Amo que esté subiendo sus videos viejos ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
One of my all time favourite Björk songs and videos. This was such a powerful era for music, style and culture. She picked the best collaborators and I just remember it being a time that felt really cool and brimming with fresh ideas and creative stimuli.
This is Bjork’s best video. She has an amazing videography. This is Gondry’s best video.
Imagine feeling this way about someone! Her voice hits all the right emotional notes.
This is one of the best music videos I've ever seen.
One of the best songs ever written!
1 of the best & most entertaining vids, both musically & visually. Many thanx 👍👍.
So beautiful, it makes me cry.
Oh my god, it's the book video! After 15 years, finally found it again... and of course it was a Björk song.
