A former student of mine graduated high school early in December and left for Boot Camp in January. I was worried about him because he was kinda of a skinny kid. He came back after graduating from Boot camp, looked like he put on 10 pounds of muscle, from what he said was non stop PT. He said the best moment of his life was when he finished the Crucible and his DI handed him his pin, shook his hand and said "Congratulations, Marine."

He probably got double rations at chow time if your too lean they do it to help recruits gain weight and fuel the rigors of boot camp
I thought I remembered hearing the marines went off the coast of somalia before the US was formed to fight pirates that threatened shipping lanes.my uncle Fred was a marine who went to Korea to fight.he was one of the finest men who I have ever known
there was a Marine expeditionary unit that was at sea near Somalia thwt stopped before the Blackhawk down incident I don’t know how long they stayed in the capital till relived of duty by the army v… in Korea it got wild during the Battle of Chosin Reviser the Marines were surrounded by the chineee it is then Chesty said We’re surrounded. That simplifies the problem.” And “They are in front of us, behind us, and we are flanked on both sides by an enemy that outnumbers us 29:1. They can’t get away now.” .. now I may be wrong here but I seem to remember the chines lost 7 divisions In the battle I may be totally wrong I haven’t read about the Koran war as much as as WW2 but being the veterans had seen fierce fighting in the Pacific theater of operations so they were battle hardened
@@user-vf7nu8lm8cyou have to be like really really slim though. Like below the requirements. It’s not a bonus though, you eat so fast you can’t chew enough, then you run three miles and throw it all up. Doesn’t happen all the time, but a few times, it wasn’t easy to keep that chow down, and I never got double rats

As the son of a Marine , WW2, Korea , and a former active duty Marine , and the uncle of an Annapolis graduate Marine , now a Major , the CORPS runs deep in our family . As does the love of America . We also have Navy , several generations , Army several generations , Air Force , and even 1 who could not pass a physical in WW2 so he became an Air Raid Warden on the east coast in New Jersey . We as Marines will always defend our country whether young or old . Semper Fi to all my Brothers and Sisters .

You left out the Korean War Marines - Chosin Reservoir - 6 December 1950 O. P. Smith stated, “Retreat, hell! We're not retreating, we're just advancing in a different direction."

GOD BLESS THE MARINE CORPS , i served in vietnam in the Corps 1966/67 , my dad was in 1st Marine div 5th Mar reg, on Guadalcanal, Cape Gloester and Peleliu where he was severely wounded , I never really got to know my dad as he passed away when i was 11yo , but he inspired me to follow in his footsteps, I still tear up when I hear our hymn and i am 77 now

I also served in Vietnam in 1966 as a 0331 machine gunner. Lost some brother Marines but I will always remember these men who sacrificed their lives protecting their brother z Marines. Sleep in Peace my brothers. Semper Fi

Chief Warrant Officer (W3) U.S. Marine Corps (Retired) '68 - '91. Served in numerous MOSs (Military Occupational Specialty(ies) in sillyvillian vernacular, job positions) too many to list here from South Vietnam to Paris, France to the Pacific, again, and duty stations from East Coast to West Coast and back again. The best 22 years of my life! Would do it all over again but stay active until the Commandant told me it was time to ... allow the younger Marines a chance at the helm.

My dad was a Old China Marine 1932-1937 . I was in the Army Vietnam 67 . Nothing but respect for the Marines. We all gave some , some gave all .

Not a marines, retired US Army but, I servered with Marines and I think this video skipped the real forge the Corp was born in Belleau wood and the battle of the marne., also skipped was the Philippines the China expedition and the fighting in South America.

Actually, when Chesty was talking about how they were surrounded and Chesty said stuff like, “We’ve got ‘em right where we want ‘em!” That those are from Korea, where he led the 1st Marines (I believe, if I remember correctly, but I have gotten old!) out of there. No mention of the USMC being formed because the Americans who fought against the Royal Marines were so impressed, that the Americans decided that they needed soldiers that were that good. Semper fi brothers (from an ex Royal Marine)

Who was the artist of this video? He or she did NO research and has no concept of Marine's uniforms or weapons. Good verbal overview even though it lacked the "shores of Tripoli" and the reason the US Marine Corps was sent to war in the Med by Jefferson in 1801. The Continental Marines were established in 1775 but disbanded after the revolution. The United States Marine Corps was established for the Barbary wars.. But the artwork is a horrendous misrepresentation of what they brave men looked like all though the historical periods spoken about from 1775 to today.

Yeah this was one of my first videos, not my best work for sure. As a Marine I know we struggle to color within the lines but looking back I probably should’ve scrapped it and started over. But this channel is for a good cause - we are fighting Veteran homelessness so every Like, every Subscribe and every Share gets us closer to monetizing so we can take care of our brothers and sisters. @@LegionofMarines from my early teen years I learned I was good with history and bootcamp made me more interested in my corps history so I do read a lot about the history of the Corps I just need to get the thought like how old was Dan Daily during the boxer revolution and bam I’m reading it so I am pretty knowledgeable even with small quotes from my older brother Marines
