  • Sir David Attenborough is the definition of an international treasure. Thank you, sir, for continuing to record more and more science programs in that same wonderfully calming voice of yours, no matter the insanity that exists elsewhere around us. Your voice is like a warm, home cooked meal. Always feels right and comfortable.

    • I whole heartedly agree with you. In my humble opinion, the designation of knight has been bestowed on many people in our living past, yet I feel very few deserve such an honor as much as Sir. David Attenborough. His dedication to the natural world is to be admired and rewarded accordingly

I also really suffered with anxiety and stress… Now at 43 I've been diagnosed with autistic spectrum… This calming and interesting world that David Attenborough and the production team creates it's just perfect to sink into and melt away all your troubles whilst learning so much about the world. :-) Just great for an artistic! Of any age!

  • A smaller version of the largest bloom grows in Thailand, near where I resided for 20 yrs. Its bloom is dark brown and spreads about 2 feet wide, thick and dry/fleshy. I once saw 2 little boys cutting one open with a penknife. They each took a large black beetle from inside, tied a cotton string to the beetle, and used them as toys, ....buzzing around at the end of their 30 inch tethers, around the boys' heads and bodies. The seed stalk from that plant has amazing garbanzo bean sized smooth and shiny seeds, bright primary colors, either bright yellow, bright red, or bright blue. As it comes out of the ground, it grows very fast and looks exactly like the plant shown in this video special.

Do they not observe the earth - how much of every noble good kind (of growth) We cause to grow therein? Verily, in this is an Ayah (Sign), yet most of them are not believers. He manages and regulates all affairs; He explains the Ayat (Signs) in detail, that you may in the meeting with your Lord, be certain. To Allah is your return, and He is Able to do all things. And if you were to say to them: "You shall indeed be raised up after death (for the Day of Judgement)," those who disbelieve would be sure to say: "This is nothing but obvious magic." Do they attribute as partners to Allah those who created nothing but they themselves are created? Were they created by nothing? Or were they themselves the creators? Or did they create the heavens and the earth? Nay, but they are not certain. And they say: "There is nothing but our life of this world, we die and we live and nothing destroys us except time (Ad-Dahr)." And they have no knowledge of it, they only conjecture. That is because they loved and preferred the life of this world over that of the Hereafter. And Allah guides not the people who disbelieve. Those who reject Our Ayat (Signs) are deaf and dumb in the darkness. Allah sends astray whom He wills and He guides on the Straight Path whom He wills. And even if they see every one of the Ayat (Signs) they will not believe therein; to the point that when they come to you to argue with you, the disbelievers say: "These are nothing but tales of the ancients." And whether you keep your talk secret or disclose it, Verily, He is the All-Knower of what is inside the chests (hearts of men). Should not He Who has created know? And He is the Most Subtle, All-Aware (of everything). [Al-Mulk 67:13-14]

  • Wow, I bet those had a good time ' evolving ' . I love the way he makes it sound as if the plant had a brain and intellect and spent time pondering how it might get the chemicals and nutrients it needs.

    • Plants are actually quite intelligent - science is only just starting to reveal their mysteries. They communicate, have the ability to learn, and have even been shown to take care of their young and old, sharing more nutrients with them to help them survive. They are not the unthinking, unfeeling organisms we might like to think they are.
