Both horse and rider were killed instantly.I remember listening to the race at the time and how by coincidence the commentary was live at the very moment from Ballaugh Bridge the commentator just said,"oh my godfathers."I may misremember but I think the horse may have been startled after an accident involving one of Gene's friend but I'm not sure.So much happiness, sadness, glory and tragedy in one event.

I mean, if i lean into a corner at 100mph on my gsx i feel like this is the absolute outer limit of what i feel comfortable doing and then these dudes go full lean at 184mph round a blind corner with their body hanging over the sidewalk and their head scraping past a light pole by an inch. This riding is so far out there, i can absolutely not imagine how it must feel.

  • Quite enjoyed that. I'm an Isle of Man resident and have a few boring things to correct/mention -Manx cats are across the world, they are quite good long tail catchers (locals don't say r-a-t) and where used on boats -Manx cats are mainly two types, Stumpy's & Rumpys. -Named corners aren't just named after accidents, it can be after all time greats ie McGuiness , Molenyux , Joey's or my personal favourite Harolds which was named after a great local who let fans view from his fields. -theres a documentary called '3 wheelin' about sidecars at the TT. There is also TT closer to the edge which is worth a watch -The 250 deaths, that includes Manx Grand Prixs which is a seperate event on the same course but for amateur riders. Also the grid is 4x times the size of the grid at F1/MotoGP rounds and they currently have 6 solo races doing a minimum of 4 laps.

They built the whole sidecar outfit themselves out of a Mini chassis and a B.S.A engine, the weirdest thing is that my grandad decided to make it front wheel drive as he believed he could get more grip as he's leaning over the front wheel.
