I think it’s important to mention the regal probably has the legendary 3.8L and you could run no oil in that and it wouldn’t blow the engine up
That's sort if what I was wondering... If just running straight air/nothing would be better than blood. Thanks for the answer.
I've personally seen a gen 2 3800 drive itself 25 mins to the scrapyard with no coolant and a huge hole in the block.
3.4L, that's the old 3400 v6! They also made a 3.8L that looks identical. The only reason I know is I caught a glimpse of the sticker at +/- 8:50. It took me way too long to catch that detail...

Microwave oven doesn't heat all the 5 liquids evenly if if they are put together. The way a microwave oven works is it heats up things which have more water content in them. That's why blood and Maple syrup heated up too much and the oils didn't.
Just wanted to say this
get outta here nerds. 🙄
Yes indeed the microwaves in the microwave are at the resonace frequency of water molequles and cause those to vibrate and therefore heat up. So liquids with less water like the differend kinds of oil heat up less.
@@srooster4410 everyone at Donut is a nerd, dude.

Hey guys, these videos are great but I think I speak for all of us when I say we are really missing Wheelhouse, B2B, & Up To Speed, Money Pit…
Yea this is fun and gross at the same time. It would be better to get those shows back on track. :/
Damn straight we are. Please bring those back.
Yes those were more automotive focus rather than entertainment

And also science garage.
I don't think the microwave was a fair heat test, the microwaves react the most with water molecules due to their size.
Yeah, I saw that as well. The microwaves aren't going to excite the long chains of the oil as much as anything loaded with water.
Agreed, you'd need a double boiler, or a sous vide
Yeah summarizing the temperature difference as "Engine oil is good dealing with heat" was kinda...
I was also thinking that
Even completely devoid of water, the microwave heats extremely unevenly.
I was curious about the syrup and how good that would smell
If you try cooking with maple syrup on a high heat it basically makes smoke. It would be real bad in an engine, it heats up fast and burns. The smell would also be pretty bad after like 10 seconds of weird/good.
American top gear did that. I will see if I can find the clip
I think top gear used syrup and it didn’t work that well. They used syrup lube and lard. The lube like immediately burnt out the syrup didn’t last much longer and lard got the one guy to his destination
It’ll probably smell like IHOP..
It was a water based syrup not one from a tree. I was disappointed in that decision. They said it smelled like a waffle house. I could not find the clip.
Engine oil staying cooler in the microwave oven has nothing to do with "dealing better with heat." The 2.45GHz frequency of microwave magnetrons was picked for its relatively strong interaction with water molecules commonly present in food. The low-moisture fluids stay cooler simply because they don't absorb anywhere near as much energy.
My thoughts exactly. A better method would have been using an oven
Science!
Yeah, as soon as I saw them microwave the fluids I cringed a little. They should have like if anything boiled water and then put containers containing the fluids in the boiling water and bring them to the desired temperature.

WHY
BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!!!!
For the glory of Satan
6..66M subscribers that's why
You guys should have used an electric heating plate to test the thermals. That would have allowed for more control over the heat and prevent uneven heat distribution. Microwaves operate by having electromagnetic waves interact with certain molecules by vibrating them, the most common being water. This means that the different molecular makeup of the fluids determined the amount of energy being absorbed by radiation heat transfer rather than the ability to absorb heat via conduction (the type of heat transfer seen in an engine.) That is why there is a such a huge difference in the temperature between the fluids.
Project farm ftw
yup... exactly what came to my mind the second I saw the microwave... heating fail :-D
@@MartinKusyn I recognize they weren’t really being serious with the video but as a chemical engineer that had to take 2 courses on heat transfer it bugs me.
Yhea, science bitch!
The microwave was funny but yeah the heat applied to each liquid is super different and they aren't even close to operating temp if they're still in clear plastic cups

I would like to see how well the maple syrup and ATF do. Part 2? Maybe?
Lmao yes!
Maple syrup,eh?
I can't imagine the maple syrup gonna work. Its sugar, so it inherently contain water, which with a little heat gonna evaporate and builds pressure in the oil system; and it could caramelized and burnt, I cant imagine it doing any good to the engine components. ATF probably way better choice TLDR: ATF and Canola is built to sustain heat, thus probably a safer choice.

I'd like to make mention about the way a microwave "cooks" food. Let's put it this way; the micro radio waves being broadcast inside the box collide with and agitate molecules which causes them to give off more heat. Some substances are more subjected to this molecular agitation than others. Sugars and water in foods are some of the more efficiently agitated substances than foreign objects a block of Styrofoam (just a hunch). Maple syrup did exactly as would be expected with heating up faster than the motor oil, the substance least affected by the agitation of the micro radio waves. Heating up test liquids through conduction like a 'sous vide' steak could also provide as a reliable method of having equal temperatures across liquid test materials. FUN FACT: The holes in the screen door of your microwave are just slightly smaller than the micro radio waves themselves, therefore not allowing them to pass through the screen as we are wondering what kinds of cancer microwave appliances cause as we stand too close. They're just photons, give it the photon-beans.
I think the one flaw is blood doesn’t lubricate the body. Mucus and other fluids like such tend to be the lubricators.

Useful hint! Years ago I had a leak in my MK3 golf steering rack, I was in Greece, where I didn't manage to find power steering fluid in any of the local gas stations, but we had plenty of olive oil. I filled it in, got home, few months later, my steering started hardening again, so i refilled with olive oil :) Somehow the leak cured itself, probably because of high viscosity olive oil and I never went back to real power steering fluid, I scrapped the car years and 50 000 km later with the olive oil still working fine. So maybe, olive oil which has probably the highest viscosity of all cooking oils would be better than the canola oil, at least for the test purpose

It's pretty funny how donut is getting flamed on their own subreddit now
I've heard that some people throw ATF in their motor before an oil change in order to clear out sludge since ATF has all sorts of detergents and anti-sludge additives.
It works great, especially in older cars that use leaded gas. My first car was a 66 AMC Rambler, and I'd put in a half a quart of ATF a couple of days before I was going to change the oil. It removes a TON a gunk.
I agree with the sentiment of throwing the ATF in a motor.
Interesting 🤔
How Justin acted is probably exactly how I would have acted. Making the rest sick, while laughing!
That heat test is somewhat inaccurate, since microwaves essentially generate friction on water molecules that heat up the food it comprises. In this case, those all have different water contents, so they'll all react differently from each other Bonus: the reason the syrup got so hot is because it has a high water content, but also because of its sugar content, since sugar can contain just the most ungodly amounts of heat
This may be by far Justin's greatest showing of power Everyone is all gagging and he's swishing around a cup of partially congealed (???) blood ready to pour it cackling

Other than ATF, Canola would work okay, as expected. It has a flash point of about 700 degrees, and in terms of cooking it's quite common to add a bit of Canola Oil when using butter to cook as the Canola Oil prevents the butter from burning and turning brown if the heat gets to high. And it's why we use it in our deep fryers. Also, Fun Fact (Fun Fact? Maybe...): The original name for Canola, which is a GMO and created in a lab at the University of Manitoba, was Rapeseed. It was obviously changed to something a bit less...rapey. Though it still uses the name Rapeseed in England.
