  • It’s still one of my biggest flexes to have met Sam in 2015. It was in Brisbane when I was at the venue early, my friend and I went on a walk and ended up meeting them. Their security stole our umbrella for them to get out of the car and they were so lovely and gave it back to us and said ‘omg don’t steal the umbrella from these girls and let them get rained on!! I’m so sorry’ and took photos with us and the couple of other fans who were there. Forever grateful, you could just tell how sweet and lovely they were in that brief interaction

    • It worked for me. I’m transgender so my voice deepened only when I started testosterone at 48. I was singing alto in a choir at the time so I was singing regularly. In the first few months I completely lost my upper range and switched to bass in the choir after 5 months then, with a lot of practice, it came back and now, at 52, I’m a baritone who can sing the full alto range up to about a top E/F and have switched to tenor. I’m now just working with my singing teacher on strengthening the full range so I can produce notes at any level of intensity/volume without losing quality. I know another trans tenor (also in a choir) who had the same experience. It really is a thing. I think it’s due to maintaining flexibility in the vocal cords.

You can say to me "Whoosh's such a nice person" and if I chose those as my pronouns, I'd love that you respected them. But you can also use he/him on me, and it won't hurt my feelings. They probably figured out a specific voice placement that allowed them to get around the break. I encourage my boy singers in middle school to sing slightly more nasally than they think sounds good to do this. Some people are magicians and figure it out all on their own. The more you practice singing that way, it becomes muscle memory. Great job little Sam!

  • I am SUPER excited that I am going to see Sam tonight in concert (with Jessie Reyez!). My sisters gave me this gift for my 55th birthday which was really an easy gift since that is the ONLY present I wanted. I wish they would sing Love Me More because I still feel this way about myself, even in my mid-50's. I am so thankful to go on this journey in life with Sam's music - words almost escape me (which is RARE, for those who know me!). Thank you Sam for showing us we can be our genuine self and celebrate life. Side note (as klt03301 stated below), I TOO had a dream that I was at Sam's concert, they saw my comment on line and they asked me to come up on stage to say hello!! I woke up smiling!!

  • My best friend and I always refer to him as our best friend…”in our heads”😂. Sam has such a beautiful, soft speaking voice. Just by listening to his speaking voice you can actually tell that he could sing well too. I was very fortunate to see him live in Cape Town a couple of years back (unfortunately he did not finish the show as he had issues with his vocals and we got refunded our ticket costs; so essentially I got to see him perform songs live…for free). I would hope he makes his way back here someday. ❤
