We've Had A Call From Security From One Of The Bank Places 😕🎥🛸👮♂️
Today we take a look around THE ROYAL BANK OF SCOTLAND PLC, Cash Counting Facility, Kestrel House, Silica Road, Amington Industrial Estate, TAMWORTH, B77 4DT.
There are many things which we find interesting about this RBS Cash Depot, from the design of the front gate, the fingerprint access system and the speed of the police arrival.
We also read out a story about a £1.8M Gang Raid on the building back in 2007 and speak to the police about the improvements they have made to avoid a repeat. The gate was the weak point back then, and the new design is very interesting.
After walking around all the publicly accessible areas, we have a chat with the police and then take the drone up.

Funny how the police have such a rapid response for a business, yet when general public call, it's a totally different story. 🕺
I've noticed that also, I've personally seen police respond within minutes whenever it's a bank or corporation.....I've actually had to call the police once before about some random ASBOS causing a stir outside of my house...police didn't even bother to turn up....complete waste of time.
But they only sent the caretaker, with his carer...
We the public dont pay as much as the big companies for thier security.😉😉😂😂😂

To be fair, not many people have millions in cash sitting in their homes. This is probably justifiable in this case.

Interesting the way you managed to engage with the police AND talk about the security of that building without them escalating the situation. If it was a police station with an interesting high security gate they'd be using section 43
Not really interesting. DJ was being very friendly, and many auditors aren't like that with the police.

The gates are ‘Hostile Vehicle Mitigation’ gates and will be built to the PAS68 specification. These V-gates are bi-fold. One side will be the main hinged section and the other side breaks away when opening. The centre section is also hinged.
At last a sensible cop who knows the law and how to treat the public respectfully. Well done !

The police wouldn't be doing their job if they didn't respond. It's not the turning up that's the issue, really. It's how they interact when they get there. This constable was spot on.

Wasted call out. The cops could have used their time attending to an actual crime. Why can’t call handlers ask a simple question…. “In order to dispatch a unit, I need you to confirm if an offence has occurred” ? Simple, and it would save heaps of public money.
Angle of the gates is to prevent ramming through even with a heavy vehicle, the 45° angle would absorb the kinetic energy into the posts rather than the weak point in the middle of a traditional flat gate.
You just need to turn up with a heavy excavator..... would rip those gates clean off the posts !... lol.... There is ALWAYS a way to beat any 'security' ! ;-)
If you connected some strong hooks and cables to them and pulled them I bet they’d open too. But there are other weaker points than the gates still there

I imagine the gates being in a V shape pointing outwards it is more secure, as someone trying to ram it, won't get through as they will cave in and strengthen. Just a thought...

@@jamesdean514 , that was my thought. It is designed ( in my opinion) to absorb the impact but someone with a bit of physics knowledge may consider that attaching something and pulling it towards the road would be a better option.
You could be in the sky ages looking with a drone and no one would know,. I've done it loads at various places .. Why all the whohar with plainly visible cameras amazes me . Although in this instance the police were fine .
The structure is stronger as a V as apposed to being straight. This is purely a security implementation so you can not ram the gates.

What if you pull it forwards?
The gate is set into stanchions on the left and right side. The apex of the angle on the gate serves to spread the force along the gate into the stanchions which will not give way. The pointed angle of the gate can also serve to disable a vehicle by slicing thru the front of the ramming vehicle. Because the gate is angled like that it's total length is actual longer than the width of the driveway making it impossible to fold the gate inwards with force. Unless you drive a tank into it, I would guess.
Gary Gemmell very well explained i thought it maybe to close quicker to stop tailgating but your reason sounds more plausible
The ramp before the gates ensures slow speed and the angle of the gate is stronger
As far as I know that game shape makes it extremely hard to ram as it acts like a lever and reinforces it self.

Found a Getty Image from 2006, they were just generic flat white gates on hinge. I would suggest these fold to one side. Don't underestimate those small PTZ cameras, modern ones can easily have 30-40X zoom on the built in lens.
Gates were definitely flat before, and almost 2 mil is a high price to pay for that mistake.

V shape would force the gates into the cab of the ramming vehicle unlike a flat surface that would spread the load (force)
I think that device is called a HandKey. It doesn’t scan your fingerprints though, it does a 3D biometric scan of your hand, measuring size, length, thickness etc.

Is placing the hand on the actual surface required? Being a bit pedantic but that seems a bit odd in regard to health and safety as numerous people are in contact with an uncleaned device.

The gates are shaped that way for 2 reasons really. If anyone tried to ram it head on, then their vehicle would be opened like a can opener (as you could imagine from the arrow point of it). And if they tried to hit it left or right of centre, then the angle of the gates would work much like the same way the angled panels of an an army tank works. A projectile hitting a sheet of steel on an angle has much less impact and ricochets. So the same sort of effect would apply here and in this instance, only a corner of the vehicle would hit the gate directly. Cop was a nice bloke. If only they were all like that.

I was talking to a chap about those types spikes along the top , at one low level spike , he jumped up and grabbed them . They turned out to be rubber ! Health and Safety got mad , (they don’t want to hurt the burglars . )

DJ, the gates are at wedge shape to prevent vehicles from ramming them to gain entry. Flat gates are much weaker than wedge shape. All to do with security, must be a very sensitive establishment. Good vid as always. Respect.

Law Abiding Citizen UK did this one about a year ago, he said the skip lorry drove into the brick wall on the side of the building which collapsed and was straight into the money room, which made it nice and quick and easy.
Makes the gate more sturdy in case someone tries to ram the gates it would split the vehicle in half
The reason the gates close at a tri-angle is because it is now many times stronger regarding a direct front end hit.
Interesting video DJ! I am not sure if the DHL guy was allowed access or not, but if he was given entrance in an unmarked covered van, that could render all the V-Shaped gates and clever biometric locks useless. All it would take would be, Al-Pacino, Val Kilmer, Tom Sizemore and Robert De Niro wearing latex president masks hiding in the back and they're in! Somebody should make a film about about it! 😉

Possible reason for why the gates close like that is to prevent vehicle ramming and gaining entry. The 'V' would require a greater force to open rather than a conventional flat closure, better known as anti ram gates!. Another great Video DJ..

Certainly interesting gates and yes it seems they are made this way to be more resistant ram raids. A tank would make it through but might be a bit conspicuous when driving through town. Looks pretty secure to me.
Triangulation creates strength, plus the gates have less throw to open/ close
I guessing if you tried to ram that gate it would shear the vehicle in half.
The gate design follows the same principle as bridges, just horizontally as opposed to vertically. (Also lock gates on a canal). The “V” shape helps to maintain the integrity of the structure if exposed to load in one direction via compression of material. 👍🏻
