Did You listen to Your Child When they Told You About the Abuse?

In India we are not comfortable talking to children about sex and sexuality.
They are not comfortable telling us about sexual abuse. In this film a boy struggles to tell his parents about sexual abuse by his uncle.
Highly recommended for parents, teachers and every person who comes in contact with children.

    • My thoughts exactly! You should see how an elephant mom protects her baby. Not just the mom, but the elder sisters, aunties, grannies of the baby elephant- everybody sides with the baby elephant when there is a predator around. They form a protective circle around the baby. The matriarch of the family leads the attack. You'll get to see this in many videos of elephant herds. They are so united when it comes to fighting off danger, aur in insaano ko dekh lo. Kabhi kabhi lagta hai ki agar main kisi hathini ki aulaad hoti to meri life laakh guna zyada achchi hoti. Kam se kam family waali feeling to is lifetime me experience kar paati.

Giving birth or not is your choice, but please change this mentality of getting rid of abuse by not giving birth. This kind of saying make it more hopeless for millions of kids out there facing abuse. If you don't feel for them it's fine. But don't say such harsh and cheap things.

Thank god my mother would have killed anyone who touched us. Thank god for relatives who protected us. I was lucky to have family who took care of us. I think today parents are becoming more aware. • I went through sexual abuse when I was just 6 years old, did not realize it at that age but later understood that it was sexual abuse and why it felt so uncomfortable and I was fraught! I gathered up my courage and 16 years later, told my mom about this just to hear "you gotta just forget about such stuff! they happen!!", That's all that I heard from her, my dad had no reply when I went to him and my younger brother had no words either! now they ask me why I tend to be very negatively connoted about people, even inside the family..... I mean what do they expect!!!!!?!!!

    • This is very relatable. I remember it happening to me a couple of times at around 6. I didn't realize what was happening to me was wrong, and I still can't believe that what happened to me was molestation, because the person was really close and to be trusted.. Mine just told me to "tell him to stop doing it." That's it.. If there is one thing to be taken from this is that we will be better parents than our own. Stay strong, Nikethana. You have come so far. We will make it in this world, despite it being so cruel. More power to you. 💪💪

  • I am an only child, my mom was a single mom. When I was 10 yrs old, she met someone and the following year we moved in with him. She was trying to give me a better life, she worked so hard and went to school at the same time. My step father and I had a great relationship.. I finally got something I always wanted, a father. we had a happy little family and our own house. I had my own room. When I was in the 9th grade 14 years old, my mom had an exam out of town and went to spend the night with her sister in that city. I had to stay home alone with my step father. He used this time to molest me. he told me not to tell my mom. the next day she came home and I told her. she made me tell him what happened and what he did. he denied at first. but then he accepted it- maybe he thought if he apologized all will go back to normal. that did not happen. we sold our house and since then my mom and i have been living alone. she never found anyone again. This dirty man went to my family members and lied about what happened, he tried to make me look bad, like i made up the whole thing to have my mom to myself. my moms family doesn't believe me. I stay away from them. I am getting therapy after many years, i have been very depressed, have anxiety, paranoia, suicidal thoughts... but I am dealing with it proper now, getting help. I am 34 years old and I am a survivor. I am sad to see how many other youngsters have gone through something similar, and if you reading this feel alone, please know that you are not alone. Life is beautiful you just need to find your strength and push through. Sending love and healing energy to you all.

Just yesterdays heart breaking news in the uk that a mothers boyfriend killed her, raped her 11 year old daughter and killed her, killed her 11 year old friend that was sleeping over and killed her 13 year old son. 😭😭😭😭, tomorrow because of family breakdown and deviating from religion this will start happening with asian women and their innocent children 😭😭.the son at 13 was not strong enough to take on this man 😭😭😭😭

But women are silenced then and now because reputation of the family/clan is more important than the physical and mental wellbeing of an individual. In a society where women who are molested are seen as damaged commodities, what use is there speaking up for them? How will people know such evils are happening on a daily basis?

Since, my mom is working she came late and till that time i be with that family. So the relationship was like this. One day my moms health got bad and was admitted in hospital ,my dad took care of her and i had to stay with this family(neighbours). This was the worst moments of my life started to begin. Every morning this womens husband touched my private parts to wake me up and when i go to bathroom he peeped through the hole in the door, i was not able to do anything. Even the bathroom didnt gave me protection. So, it was diwali and a craker got busted suddenly and all the smoke went to my eyes i was not able to open .so this guy pressed me against him and was rubbing water in my eyes were his daughters and wife was playing. He rubbed his rubed his dirty parts against me. I was not able to cry or was able to show any emotion , i was numb and was not feeling anything. The next day i told the wife to take me to hospital , we went to the hospital and i cried hugging dad and didnt told him. I went to mom and said that he touched me and my mom told me not to tell anything to dad. That moment i understood the value of myself. I was no one to anybody. That moment onwards i made me realise that i was nothing. That still haunts me. Now, i am 20 years of old ,my mom passed away when i was 17 few days after my birthday. I live my lovely dad who loves me the most.we have a very lovely relationship. One day we were sleeping and some emotions bursted and i told my dad this happened. He said to me that he failed as a dad and that was something that broke him to pieces . After that he was having depression and started drinking and was normal after few weeks. He cares for me protects me and loves me most. I am 20 yrs old and i still sleep next to my dad. He sings and says stories for me to sleep. But i loved my mom and i still love her. Even if i hate her i have forgiven her. I am crying right now writing this but i wanted to share my story. That still haunts me .sorry for my english.❤ to everybody.

The number of people coming forward to share their personal experience is unbelievable. I can’t even imagine the pain the people who have opened up here had to go through or still going through. This just proves that a cinema is not just an entertainment, but a strong and substantial medium to bring out unspoken and difficult truths. To portray images that we mostly pretend to have not seen. I just pray that the Almighty God comfort each one of you, strengthen you and give you peace. Amen!

When I went to take photo alone one day the photographer acted weirdly towards me, he tried to touch me in name of taking photos though I avoided him. When I reached home I told my mom about it and she told this to my dad when he reached home. They were so angry at him and my brother was like he would kill him any moment. Seeing that my father allowed my brother to take action and took him with him when he went to confront that guy they taught him such a lesson that I felt so proud that I had such a family they checked his camera, though there weren't any bad photos of mine they deleted those photos to assure me,and after this incident that guy didn't even have the guts to even look at me. So proud of my family. Let me tell you if you need help first you should be ready to speak about it to people who you feel will help you 🙂

Some in my family found it weird and thought my Maa was a prude for this but goshh I'm grateful she did that. Even if there was 0.0000001% chances of something happening, she was cautious of it. The day I wrote that reply,I came home after getting catcalled by few men. It got me back to old memories. I just got a bit sentimental that day while watching the video and reading the comments which is why I wrote that (this) reply. The male victims and survivors are far more than we can imagine and I know that. I've all my heart for them as well. And about what I wrote that Men don't listen, that was my experience in my life. Now still I'd apologize if you felt I generalized men -- I never had any such intentions. Like you said many male survivors have it worse than female survivors, similarly many female survivors also have it worse than male survivors though I believe pain of abuse is just the worst for the person who experiences it. So I just wrote it out of emotions.

When the ones closest to you try to shut you up and the ones who should be punished are roaming free in an unsafe house. The true meaning of family is represented by keeping a distance from the truth teller and shunning them out when they open their mouth but the actual villain tend to eat with family, play with family and are welcomed into the family. My heart hurts by seeing this. Cause I remember living like this since I was in 5th grade until I was 36 years old!

Give peace to your soul and do whatever that makes your soul at peace. One solution, that I also suggested someone is, "Save a child so that you can save your inner child and give justice to your soul" Be your Own Warrior. Stay Safe and Blessed. My cousin got through somewhat similar situation, and she expressed it before mom and Aunty, but none actually acted. While my mom listening to this matter later on, save guard us from that uncle and said, if something such happens to my child, I'll slit him open. My parents are my strength and That's why maybe I'm Bold in expressing my thoughts.

  • I told my dad about it, he called me a liar. Couldn’t tell my mom because my parents had an ugly separation which caused me not having contact with my mom. So I told my best friend at that time she helped me, regain confidence. But it still left hurt, I was gang raped by strangers, by my dad’s friend and my aunt’s husband. My aunt stopped my uncle but that doesn’t stop the pain n trauma/sleepless nights or nightmares of it all happening and reliving those moments in my sleep. I am married now with a amazing man. Who comforts me when I am scared or had those dreams again. If your child ever comes to you to talk about something. Don’t shut them up. Listen and help them. Abuse isn’t something to lie about it a serious matter. Don’t fail as a parent whose responsibility is to protect them and guide them.

    • Dude I am a Muslim too, but it's not about the veil for God's sake, why do you guys always end up blaming the victim's dressing sense, just because a woman is not covering herself in a certain "modest" Way does not mean that men get the free pass to sexually assault her. She in this movie was a child when she got abused by her own damn uncle, and the sad truth is it happens in real life too, so don't come up with that "veil or covering up" Bullshit, I am a hejabi and still have gotten catcalled LOADS of times, it has nothing to do with the dress, some people are predators and you need to accept that🙄

    • Yes being Muslim isn't enough you have to practise the religion to understand . Allah has created us and he knows what is safe for us and what is not. It's not only the hijab of course but entire set of rules that bring you to safety. Yes, we are taught to be careful at home. Every member of a family and relatives and society at large has been given their well defined roles and boundaries. That is why Islam is the perfect religion . If any Muslim commits a sin it's the fault of the person not the religion. Islam also condemns such heinous crimes and for there are which grave punishments so that no one dares to follow suit. Try to understand the religion with the Quran and Sunnah. You will find peace contentment security and bliss. Best wishes.
