  • One thing I'd like to point out about Yhorm the Giant. The english description of his shield mentioned something like "lost the one he want to protect", that is a misleading translation. In japanese and chinese version of these words, it just said "he lost people who need his protection". So there's no such a 'dearest one'. He lost his people, those people were corrupted by profaned fire and got punished. Nice job presenting the DS III story, it's never an easy task.

    @jasonb6860@jasonb68608 жыл бұрын
    • He claims he willed himself lord, a persons state of mind matters a lot in the Dark Souls games from what we have seen during the trilogy. It has a very large effect on hollowing at least so it is possible a strong will is all that is needed to potentially link the fire, it is very possible he was aided naturally since he does use the word " we " when you talk with him in regards to the fire keepers. He might have been one of the original people who created the fire keepers.

  • I really prefer summoning the fire keeper as it feels like the most natural decision after everything the unkindled learns. Let the fire fade peacefully and give the firekeepers of the future to chance to purify and relight it if needed. Everything else just seems destructive and nihilistic.

  • Best ending has to be the Firekeeper one. When you link the Fire, it's barely strong enough to engulf you. Lord of Hollows sound cool, untill you remember that hollows go crazy and now they're turning into creepy flying trees. But Firekeeper saw hope. And she's sooooooooooooooooooooooo beautiful.

    @demilung@demilung7 жыл бұрын
    • Nah, the best ending is the Lord of Hollows when, here's why. The Fire Keeper ending, is bringing the Age of Dark, knowing, that one day Fire will come, as it came in the time of the First Lords, and the Age of Gray ended. But that just means, that the cycle will come back eventually. And the cycle is bad. Being Lord of Hollows breaks the cycle, takes the First Flame and puts it inside your character, making you a Host for the Fire. Remember, that hollowing actually is the NATURAL state of humans. Just check the intro video of Dark Souls 1 - when the First Flame appears all humans are just that - hollows. This is humanity true nature, and the true victory of the Furtive Pigmee - so the humans can rule, not Gods or Giants, but humans.

      @proOutlander@proOutlander7 жыл бұрын
    • proOutlander Even if being mindless husks is a natural state, it's still not a good thing. Dying at the age of 27 from a flu is also natural, but we don't practice it anymore, he made anti-biotics. Hpllow humans don't really rule anything, they just stumble about. And we don't know that what she sees is the new Fire, maybe it's something else, like Deep Sea, or whatever was meant to come if linking would never happened. If her vision of the future was eventual more of the same I don't see why it would be separated into a different ending so hard, that you actually have a way to back down from it. And she's soooooo beautiful.

      @demilung@demilung7 жыл бұрын
    • +demilung hollows dont have to lose their minds. Yoel, yuria, and the other pilgrim who guides anri are proof of that. Remember how in all of these games, undead are linked to the bonfires and by extension the first flame? Well, my line of thought is that undead lose their minds when they completely lose that connection. Maybe the shattering of that connection has a drastic effect on the mind. But the hollows of londor, somehow, some way, managed to prevent that from happening.

  • I personally think the Lords of Cinder aren't just a last resort. They're the only resort. Yuria mentions how the gods are no more, possibly referring to the Four Lord Souls that have always been used. Ludleth mentions how the ritual you're taking part in is a re-enactment of the First Flame. A re-enactment is a retelling of events, but it's done in a completely new way. In other words, I think the Four Lord Souls are gone. We've used them and burned them so much that we just can't use them anymore, so now we've fallen back on burning Lords of Cinder, and even that isn't enough. You don't erupt into a large flame going out and refreshing the land, You just burn quietly to yourself, the flames not even leaving the Kiln.. Dark Souls III is truly the end of the Souls world.

    @ZeroReaper42@ZeroReaper428 жыл бұрын

  • So,the world has gone to shit and Ludleth throws himself in the fire,which is enough for him to restore the old Shrine and toll the Bell,then using the link between the coiled swords you go to the past and kill the Lords of Cinder when they were still alive (I assume in the current state,even they have faded).Then you bring their remains to the future and sacrifice them and decide what to do with them..... So Dark Souls 3 is actually a post-apocalyptic time travelling game?

  • Great video ! I always found it incredible how Dark Soul's lore is hidden, yet incredibly complex. When you start playing the first Dark Souls, you're completely lost and don't know where to go, you see people mentioned in item descriptions but never actually encounter them, so it feels like you're too late and can only ring the two bells and see what happens. As for DkS3, I always considered the old Lords of Cinder wouldn't link the fire again because doing so the first time turned them hollow, or something. Thus, they could only go back to where they initially belonged and wait, not able to think or make decisions. After all, when you encounter them, they attack you on sight and never talk, save for Lothric. I never imagined they all had reasons not to link the fire a second time.

  • I do think that, in the similar vein that in Bloodborne, the actual "good" ending is the one in which you take in the Fire and become the Lord of Hollows. After all, that is the only ending in which the Cycle is truly broken.

    @Arrakiz666@Arrakiz6668 жыл бұрын
    • Isn't the cycle also broken in either of the firekeeper's endings, whether you take the flame for her or from her? Or did I miss something...

      @ceetee110@ceetee110Ай бұрын
    • @@ceetee110 Given the beginning of DS I, it's kind of implied that if the dark is allowed to cover the world, the next age of ancients would follow (which is why dragons keep reappearing near the end of every cycle, they're "out of sync", so to speak), and then new Lords would find the souls in the dark, just like the original 4 did. This is why, in DS II, there 4 new Lords, clearly reminiscent of the old ones, but distinct in their own way. If you take the fire, there wouldn't be souls to be found in the dark.

Becouse the bloodline of Lord Gwyn (Lothric's mother being Gwynewere) failed him he searched for a new solution in the Grand Archives untill he eventually discovered the studies of Seath the Scaleless and became obsessed with it. Then he experimented on himself and on his third child Ocelotte. When Queen Lothric discovered this she fled the kimgdom and took Ocelotte with her. This destroyed Oceiros' dream of creating a worthy heir to the linking of the fire and drove him insane. After that he locked himself away in his garden leaving him in the state we find him in game. • Awesome lore video! Love the series since the first game. I had the same theory about the dark firelink shrine being a past version, but somethig came to me after watching the video that got me confused a bit: If you're from a future shrine, and that bonfire is linked to previous versions, you would be, then, travelling to the past to collect the cinders of lords? So Ludleth tolled the bell in our version of the shrine (future) and that awoke the Lords of Cinders in the past? Or is the dark shrine (past version) still connected to the present land but lost in time? Because I've seen (don't remember where, but probably in one of your previous videos) that time is convoluted in the game world. My friend had another theory for the dark shrine that I thought was interesting also: He said that Lothric exists in a time that the cycles are exactly the same, so the next time the realm is built, it is built over the previous version as a copy. So the dark shrine is the remain of the last version of Lothric, and the one we explore has been build over it, with the dark shrine, the only remaining structure stanting and slowly been take by the abyss.

  • Dude excellent connection about Ludleth creating his own Firelink! I dont think many people pick up on this. - Hub Firelink's sky never changes along with the rest of the game, and it cant be reached or seen from anywhere else in Lothric. Pretty suspicious in my opinion. - Ludleth very matter of fact like states that he "painted a new vision" that vision might be just what we wake up to in the beginning of the game. - Untended graves is in the past like you said in the video, but can also be a look into the future of what an Age of Dark entails. Its my opinion that when we first travel out of Hub Firelink we are leaving a "vision" created by Ludleth that is used to find a worthy unkindled, who is then sent back into the past shortly before the flame fades(Lothric's Turn to link, but before Ludleth does it) and is tasked with collecting the Lord of Cinders ashes to bring back to the Hub Firelink. From Hub Firelink we go through the ritual with the Firekeeper and she sends us to the Flameless Shrine. This is the world's reality. Its what happens when the world is on the brink of going hollow. We go back to reality with the Cinders of the Lords within us and challenge the Souls of Cinder so that we can link the flame and paint a new vision, much like Ludleth did before us. However with how dull the flame is when we link it, and how far gone the world is, who knows if what we've done actually has an effect.

    @ATC43@ATC438 жыл бұрын
    • I like that. Totally agree that we're going back to right before the fame flades - but hadn't thought of it being a different reality from the one of the Flameless/Lord of Cinder shrine. I really like that theory.

    @gravendanger@gravendanger8 жыл бұрын
    • But that would speak against the fact that Kaathe pursues the Londor ending(inhariting the flame). By just letting the flame fade, you wont break the cycle because we know that even in an age of dark, one day little flames will ignite again, giving opportunity for another age of light in the future. Kaathe maybe realised that extinguishing the fire is no permanent solution and sought another way. Yurias task is to push us towards the end so why put a spoke in wheel?

      @valeszhound5336@valeszhound53368 жыл бұрын
  • Angles being pilgrims? Not a bad assumption. And also that Ludleth may have sacrificed himself without the other lords. Ludleth is weak, maybe because he sacrificed some of himself to extend the cicle a little bit more. He was sitting on the throne, maybe continously feeding the flame, which is most likely painful. I would like to add my theory. All Lords (all 5) represents the 5 Souls you collect in DS1. And I'll theorize how your interpretation and mine could collide. And I believe you were wrong about the 4 kings, they aren't just Gwyns soul fragment, but they became infested by the abyss, they became the hoarder of the Dark Soul. So they are the manifestation of Manus. So as you said, all 4 Gods, Nito, the witches, Manus and Gwyn, had to be sacrificed. They represent Light, Dark, Life and Death. But there is a 5th god, Seath, who I believe, even if he had only the fragment of Gwyns soul, had his own Lord soul (or developed one), so there is the 5 Lords. We can call Seath "knowledge" or "magic". So my theory: Aldritch is Death Yhorm is Life Abysswatchers is Dark (them also being infested by the dark.. you also said this, so there is no problem here) Twin Princes are Light And that leaves with Ludleth being Magic or Knowledge I also believe that Ludleth became a Lord of Cinder on his own, and cut off his own leg so he wouldn't flee from his duties. So the theory that can connect yours and mine: When these Lords of Cinders are revived, they had to have a Lord Soul of their own to be strong enough to be called upon again. So there is always 1 new heir, and 4 older ones. Thus the 5 thrones. So these Lord Souls are stored in these Lords of Cinders. DS1 said it: with fire became disparity, and disparity didn't just vanish, it's still there, so the Lords HAVE to represent life, death, light and dark. Without all 5 Lords it would be like when Gwyn sacrificed himself: not enough. Souls don't just grow on trees, so they have to be the same ones than they were in DS1, or a version of them.

    • Essentially, due to a prolonged period of insufficient tinder to satiate the First Flame, the Undead of Dark Souls III experience a more rudimentary form of Undeath that we know as Unkindled. While branded with the Darksign, these Undead are not afflicted with Hollowing and therefore they cannot fitfully Link the Fire, thus they serve as a reflection of the dire state of the dying world. Moving right along, the prior life of the player character is unknown, maybe lost, and thus this person adheres to the sole instinctual motivation bestowed unto them, which is contending with the desperate state of the First Flame, such is the fate of all Undead as their very existence is on the brink of desolation in the wake of Dark.

      @joeschmo3622@joeschmo36228 жыл бұрын
    • basically the bell of awakening woke up the lords of cinder to link it again, they chose not to, so then we were woken as a last resort. the champion of ash thing seems to be an ironic joke, because in this universe powerful god-like carriers of lord souls are able to link the flame everything lesser is destroyed by it, becoming ash. so because the great powerful lords won't link the flame, the job falls to us petty lowlings. as to what's the difference between unkindled and undead? thats up for debate. at the end of DS2's DLC when you gather the crowns together you transcend the undead curse of hollowing, and basically exist outside the cycle of flames and souls and blah blah blah, which would seem heretical or "accursed" to these people who worship the flame and see great pride in linking it. so maybe our character is linked to your character after having rid yourself of the hollowing curse and died a normal death and wasn't subject to the undead curse raising others from the grave but are now being called on to intervene somehow.

    • The Cemetery of Ash, where the main character derives from, is known as the place that all failed Lords of Cinder go to rest. The result of being a Lord of Cinder is the consumption of your body and soul, thus creating fuel for the flame. The fact of the matter is, when a vessel is unfit for being an energy source, they are burned to ash. All bonfires are essentially the remains of unfit champions and sacrifices from the Way of White. Your Estus is bottled power of the Lords, and your Ashen Estus is bottled ashen power of the once-unfit-to-be-lords. That is why throughout your playthrough, you are referred to as the "Ashen One", or "The one that is named to "Usurp the Flame", not to officially take it.

Still waiting for you to continue your lore series on those hahaha XD But take your time I say, we can wait.

    • Yeah, one day, one day. They're such good games, they really deserve it. (And, I'm glad you see to have played them too. :))

    • DaveControl I picked up Kings Field 4 after dark souls 1 actually, and god damn if I did not fall in love. It is by far one of the best games on the PS2, and sadly no one seems to know about it :/ I ended up getting the rest via ebay, also got copies for shadow tower 1 and 2.

    • Because the events of DS2 are what starts the "Rebellion" against the cycle. The goal of finding former Lords and obtaining their souls in DS3 mirrors what happens in DS2 and the DLC. Except an Unkindled is chosen as a back-up-plan in case the current *Chosen* decides against linking the fire like with what happens in DS2 True Ending. And of course Aldia being the culmination of the Soul Research that started with Seath the Scaleless, having lost his very soul but all the while escaping the cycle that Humanity is stuck in.

    • It's pretty hard to realize you can get. During the Age of Dark ending, you have to realize you can still control your character and actively choose to attack her.
