In this video I demo the Rhodes MK8 electric piano. The first new Rhodes in YEARS. The Rhodes MK8 is a brand new Rhodes instrument introduced in 2022 and features all the sound shaping tools and effects I’ve ever wanted in a Rhodes including Chorus, Phaser, Drive, Compression, and even a built-in wah effect. This is a full demo of the sound of the Rhodes MK8. The version of the Rhodes MK8 I'm using in this video is the Rhodes MK8 FX (with effects).

    • Of all the keyboards that are available (pianos, organs, synthesizers, etc.) The Rhodes is my #1 all time favorite keyboard. It's rich history from such greats as Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, George Duke, and countless other artists, has made this an instrument that is definitely in a class of its own. I have always been fascinated with the Rhodes since I was a child. As a musician and keyboardist myself that owns several keyboards, I have always wanted to own a Rhodes. With its effects, this is the one instrument that can be Funky, Smooth, Soulful Melodic, and Harmonious. The depth of the tone of the Rhodes makes this a legendary instrument that has stood the test of time for generations, and still does to this day. 🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹

  • The history of the Rhodes electric piano is such an inspiring and uplifting story, that is of course only eclipsed by the beauty of the sound that the piano itself creates. I am so glad that they are back in production and appear to be well manufactured by our friends in the UK. I love the retro 70's look that it takes on with its Walnut finish. Oh and your playing was just a terrific show of how the Rhodes could always take a great track and add something more than just simple instrumentation to it. Some of my favorite musicians have been Rhodes players, especially the seventy-three.

  • Great walk through. Nothing else has the warm sound of this style of electric piano. Nice to see the folks at Rhodes didn't just resurrect it for nostalgia. It appears they advanced the design and focused on delivering a very high quality instrument that could easily last 60 years like it's forebearers. How many synths will have chips or power supplies that will last 20+ years?

  • Congrats!! Funny story I have a Rhodes V (84 or 85 model) and a Wurlitzer 200A from 1975 that was in a storage room at my old high schools band room 3 years after I graduated they consolidated the high schools so on the last day they had a reunion of sorts to let everyone hang out one last time. I asked the principal about the piano in the band room and he said well they are going to tear the building down so take it the teachers will be here for another week cleaning out their rooms. So the following Monday I went back with the intention of getting the old upright piano from the school that is a Baldwin from 1956 then I remembered there was this old electric piano in the band locker room, so I went to look and there it was the Wurli 200A but the sustain pedal had been cut off 😭BUT there was what I thought was case/top cover for it sitting in the corner. I thought was for the Wurli since it was sitting beside it but when I went to pick it up it weighed like 100 pounds LOL! So I opened the top of what I thought was a case but it was a Rhodes V Stage 73 the ugly blue one, but it was in perfect mint condition (I don't think it had ever been played). I was shocked. I walked back up to the principal's office to tell him what I found and he was like "great take it home". Then he told to me the marching band instruments and drums were going to a middle school but everything else including two drum kits was free to take and a small PA system they had just purchased on my classes recommendations only about 5 years prior when I was a freshman. So I ended up getting the Wurli 200A the Rhodes V, a 1956 Baldwin piano a Ludwig drum kit from the early 1970s that looked like it belonged to a traveling circus because of its character (it was beat up) and a 4 year old 6 piece set of Premier drums with 6 cymbals and a small PA for nothing. Ironically if I had not went to get that stuff it would have been thrown away because the middle school never came to get the band instruments like he said they would and a contractor bought the property the following year and tore down the band building and threw every instrument away. I still have everything except the little PA which I gave to a church about a year later when they asked me to rent them a PA until they could order one, I gave it as a donation since I already had a very nice PA and studio gear at the time. But I play that Rhodes V all the time.
