The more times I watch this video, the more I realize what a masterpiece it is. Everything about it is perfect: the black and white frame, the Paris scenery, the dog, the band all dressed up in black leather jackets, how different but beautiful both models are, the voyeuristic look on their bodies, Dave's dancing moves, how gorgeous Alan looks (especially when he looks straight into the camera), the black sunglasses everyone wears, the fact that at 2:52 the lyric "I won't say it again" is synchronized with a shot of Dave keeping his mouth shut, the bloopers and the giggles at the end...A 37-year-old perfection!

Strangelove, strange highs and strange lows Strangelove, that's how my love goes Strangelove, will you give it to me? Will you take the pain I'll give to you again and again? Will you return it? There'll be times when my crimes Will seem almost unforgivable I give in to sin Because you have to make this life liveable But when you think I've had enough From your sea of love I'll take more than another riverful Yes, and I'll make it all worthwhile I'll make your heart smile Strangelove, strange highs and strange lows Strangelove, that's how my love goes Strangelove, will you give it to me? Will you take the pain I'll give to you again and again? Will you return it? There'll be days when I'll stray I may appear to be constantly out of reach I give in to sin Because I like to practice what I preach I'm not trying to say I'll have it all my way I'm always willing to learn When you've got something to teach And I'll make it all worthwhile I'll make your heart smile Pain Will you return it? I'll say it again, pain Pain Will you return it? I'll say it again, pain Pain Will you return it? I'll say it again, pain Pain Will you return it? I won't say it again Strangelove, strange highs and strange lows Strangelove, that's how my love goes Strangelove, will you give it to me? Strangelove, strange highs and strange lows Strangelove, that's how my love goes Strangelove, will you give it to me? Strangelove, strange highs and strange lows Strangelove, that's how my love goes Strangelove, will you give it to me? I love the messages in this song. Love and relationships are not perfect, so stop demanding or expecting perfection. And the pain is sometimes inevitable; both the giving and the receiving. What makes it work is *not* constant, parochial judgement, but understanding, forbearance, and the resilience to stick with each other. That's how we make life livable.

I love this video. The low budget black and white vibe. The exotic women. The "preacher-like" clothing the band wears (Fletch in particular), the location - Paris and also the humor left in several of the clips. I think this video really encapsulates the essence of Depeche
@molengat1 Жыл бұрын
It was shot on monochromatic super 8 film, which is not at all low budget. I’m sure Anton chose this gritty look / feel to emphasize the mood conveyed by location + the looks of the boys, which were more goth / vampire-like, especially Dave - correlating, of course, with the song lyrics & melody. The women are not necessarily “exotic” and I appreciate the diversity, as two of the members of DM are mixed anyways. (Unless you meant exotic as in “sensual”, in which case, then it makes sense, it correlates with the meaning & mood of the song.) This video is definitely visual poetry, with the bloopers / closing outtakes being the icing on the cake. It’s definitely my favorite video + song of theirs, and I agree with you that the video encapsulates who Depeche Mode is. 🤍

New Order I reckon, very close one.

Just witnessed this!
Descansa en paz maestro Andrew Fletcher
R.I.P. Andy. There's no one like you. Such massive talent lives forever on these brilliant recordings ♥ : (
The talents on the classic Depeche Mode songs are from Martin and Alan with Dave singing, no one else
Depeche Mode got me through my darkest times. Love them eternally ❤
Claro que si hermano
Me too ...now is dark, help Sara
Eu dancei muito com esta música maravilhosa com 18 anos Depeche Mode é só gratidão. 20/02/2023
This great song was ahead of its time when it first came out!
Alan Wilder hizo grande a Depeche Mode.
🙏
One of the best songs of Depeche Mode
True!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Simply the Best!!!!!!!!!!!
Actually this is one of the best song humans have ever made since we are on this planet.
My favourite ever!
I can't believe this iconic song is not part of Depeche Mode's set list for the Memento Mori concerts. Smh.
it was last saturday, in brooklyn!!! Martin was te singer.
Depeche Mode played Strangelove here at Mexico City on September 23rd, so, it is part of the setlist. 😅
Martin Gore sang it himself yesterday at Atlas Arena in Łódź (Poland) and it was incredible!
Os anos 80 não foram uma outra época. Eles foram um outro mundo!
Verdade. são fodas!
Verdade, que saudades ! Me lembro de estar descalça ,pulando corda ,ouvindo essa música ,e a calçada queimava os meus pés ,me lembro como se fosse hoje
Melhor época da minha Vida!!!! Que Saudade!!!
Com certeza saudades dos anos 80
Primeira banda eletrônica
The 80s was as strange as you could get, and we loved every single minute of it!
Any decade where people drank Um Bongo and ate Monster Munch was a great decade!
everyday gets stranger ...so today is worse than the 80's havent seen a decade as great as the 80's
When even old school metalheads like me appreciate your musical genius, you are true *artists*. Thanks for the brilliant, innovative music over the decades...so many fond memories along with your tunes. 😎
Music for the Masses will always remain a classic of the 80's, so powerfully dark. Truly a masterpiece.
This Song Is Legendary
Forever legendary
Maxi mix even more so
The best!!!! Depeche Mode...Never find something!!!more excelent...just for special people.... i love
For the older folks, As a representative of the new generation. We DEFINITELY didn't let this song die, and nor did we forget about depeche mode itself. Cheers.
Thanks 😊
XD
Sounds better every year, the godfathers of this genre of music
This is such a addictive song
Strangelove, strange highs and strange lows Strangelove, that's how my love goes Strangelove, will you give it to me? R.I.P. Andy

The 80’s are the best early 90’s period
2024 and forever masterpiece!!!
I dedicate that song to my possible future girlfriend/wife if I ever have one. Will return here if that happen. Wish me luck.
Go and get her. It's really incredible when you find out that she always was there, close to you
Just remember that rape is against the law in most countries and you will do just fine
awww
@@felipetoro3262 thx. Interesting is that I have a girl I'm interested very much that I met a week ago, because of new school and we are doing pretty well both in talking and writing. That's a suprise, but I don't know what to do next etc. I mean too fast to invite her yet, but I'm doing pretty well I think?
@Bez Znaczenia mam nadzieję że znajdziesz sobie jakąś (w dokładnym tłumaczeniu) "dziewczynoprzyjaciółkę"
It ain't a Depeche Mode video unless he does that spin move. Period. ♥️😂
I saw them in concert in Toronto. David still does that move 😂💖
He did it as I was reading this haha
But you have to scream out "OoOoOOOOOOOOOoooohhhh!!!" while doing it.
That "spin move" is known as the apocalypse twist. At least i remember a music columnist for i think rolling stone or spin magazine in the early 90's refer to it as that.
Facts 😂😂
so 80's but so timeless
I will love DM music until the day I die!!! Best era ever. Thank you DM for your music, times and memories, they will live in my heart forever!!! Xoxoxo
I was madly in love with his voice without seeing his face. It was such a pleasant surprise to find out that he is gorgeous physically too! This is the definition of a sexy manly voice!
Eva Cutolo not gorgeous anymore, these guys were good looking dudes from 85 to like 2003, they are all now getting close to 60 grandpas

... Sorry the same story here.. 😢
My eyes are watering 😥
There's nothing more iconic than those legs, miniskirt and leather jacket walking down a Paris street at the beginning of this video.
Depeshe Mode..born before their time ❤ their music will live forever since 1980. 😍💯💟
Lol, the song is about BDSM.
Really nice words about what love is!
@@stargazer9973 Not necesarilly.
@@stargazer9973 I never got that impression. I always felt the pain the song was talking about was emotional.
No, really, it's about S&M. In the same vein as "Master & Servant." Listen to those lyrics.
Dave's vocals are on another level. Just have to listen to this daily.
What an awesome band. Strange 💕 love ❤️😘.
One of the greatest songs from DM ever !
For me, it's the best DM record, flows so well, the best example of a synth track and a proper dancefloor filler. So fresh at the time and would easily be a hit today. One of the very best tracks of the 80s.
The Legends may pass on but their music will live forever. Many thanks Andy Fletcher, may you RIP!
Agreed. RIP Fletch!!

Thank Andy Fletcher for what??? The music was created by Martin Gore and Alan Wilder, Dave complimented the music with his vocals. Andy Fletcher did nothing in the studio or on stage

“Pain. Will you return it?” What a lyric, Martin.
Embalou minha adolescência gratidão depeche Mode tenho 52 e continua embalando com força ❤
Yes i m 70😅
jajajaaa así se dice reina!
Whenever I hear this song I have to think back to the time when I was 2 or 3 years old and my parents were fans of Depeche Mode and I sat in the car and listened and enjoyed it. I find it amazing how I still get a great feeling from this masterpiece, just the feeling when I was a toddler. I hope I can show my kids this too. Greetings from Germany!
You will!
Same wtf
reege Your parents raised you right
My kids absolutely love listening to Depeche Mode with me and their Dad! They are 1, 3 and 5. I really hope it will be the same for them as it is for you when they are older :)
I love this video. The low budget black and white vibe. The exotic women. The "preacher-like" clothing the band wears (Fletch in particular), the location - Paris and also the humor left in several of the clips. I think this video really encapsulates the essence of Depeche
I grew up listening to depech mode big respect to everyone who listens to them now ❤❤❤
Gehört zu meinen Lieblingsliedern. Really phantastic.
The first time I heard this song I think it was ""86" or "87" I was around 16 or 17 it was the best time, the best years of my life..I was in Highschool, but for some "Strange" reason now a full grown man . When I'm down I tend to remember those years relieve them and I get better... thank you. God bless you all.....
Ditto! I was at this concert, twice! Once in Dec '87 and again in June of '88. I was 15 & 16 years old. Saw them once again in June 1990 on a Violator Tour when I was 18yrs old. Some of my most cherished memories in my life...taking the Go-Train from the suburbs of Toronto to the shows at MLG or the CNE. Amazing that I remember every lyric and every word & sound like it was yesterday. Its been said often before and I'll say it again too....."I wish I had a time-machine."
'87
Dave's voice tho!!
One of the great songs, from one of the greatest albums, from one of the greatest bands!
in the middle of 2023 listening to this masterpiece 🔥
