About Wes Barker:
Wes Barker is a magician and comedian doing funny tricks, and telling great stories. Watch here for hilarious magic, stunts, and pranks. I am funniest magician that is also a stand-up comic, or maybe I'm the comic who is best at magic. Either way you get the idea. I tour all over doing colleges, comedy clubs, and corporate events. Catch the adventures and tricks right here. With this magician / comedian based out of Vancouver, Canada. I make funny stuff. That’s my only rule. Everything has to be funny, from street magic to stage illusions, as long as there is a joke to be made. I do magic tricks, sketches, stand-up comedy, card tricks, mind reading, and tricks with naked people. I’ve been on America’s Got Talent, Penn & Teller: Fool Us, MTV Greatest Party Stories Ever, and Wizard Wars. You can find me picking up chicks with sleight of hand, doing tutorials, and/or the occasional bar bet.

  • Rather elegant trick. He marks the page when jonathan chooses the number, later he looks up the page number when telling jonathan how not to rip the book (notice he goes back and forth). Then he just sticks a random page in the sword and claims it is the number he saw earlier. Also, note that you cannot have a page finishing in 0 and 1 on thr same sheet of paper. They go lile this: 1/2, 3/4, 5/6, 7/8, 9/0. Pages finishing in 0 and 1 are opposite (you see both when a book is open). Very nice

    @bivoca@bivoca4 жыл бұрын
    • Brilliant explanation! KZhead gives us the benefit of being able to slow the video down, so you can see the piece of paper is on the sword as Wes turns around. However, I still wondered how he got the exact correct page out that quickly. I had to rewatch to see that you're correct - he didn't! It was an great trick, with excellent misdirection employed. I hope Wes remembers your tip with the page numbers for the future! Nevertheless - tearing phone books in half like that, that's a trick worth watching in itself!!!! :)

    • When he tells Jonathan how to rip the book he puts both hands on the spine. So how does he know how to open the book at the right page? Did he put something in to know where to open? I think that's the key of the trick...

    • I don't think that's the case. He tells P&T there was no indexing, which I assume means marking the page in some way. However, I do see a red page in the phone book and he seems to be in the area of that page when he tells the guy to pick. Is he using the odd page as a reference and counting from that point? The instruction on how to rip the book is an obvious page look up

  • I liked that Penn had the integrity to not keep guessing. The issue is that he didn't *really* fool them. The trick had five or maybe a dozen different ways of being done? Penn could rattle off four or five and get to the right one. He did the right thing in letting the dude win, since the two they guessed wasn't the right one and he managed to make it appear like they were. Good truck

    @danieljmoore@danieljmoore3 жыл бұрын
    • I know this is a late comment but you are so right. Actually I believe on one trick they employ the "1% rule". Lots of magic tricks have multiple tricks that are used in sequence to make a great show, P&T might literally know 99% of how a trick is done; however, if they can't figure out how the last 1% of the trick is done, they submit that the performer fooled them. In this case they had no idea how Baker got the correct page on the sword (they probably knew a page was on the sword but how did pg 520 get on there - of course that was a lie which they didnt catch) I think that is really nice and just goes to show how knowledgeable they are.

  • For anyone not getting the Skywalker joke, they're refering to the magic term of "force" where you make the participant think they've picked by choice, but you've used some subtle method to control where they land. It's often used in card tricks where they fan cards out. In this case I'm wagering that the page numbers are not something anyone pays attention to when Wes directs them to check the pages to make sure they are different so they're all marked the same page number. Even if that's not the key, it's a clever act with a lot of good showmanship.
