Filmed at 12:30pm on Thursday June 29, 2023, I drive around Springfield, Illinois during a very bad storm to see what's going on. At the beginning of the video, the power goes out. About 10 minutes later, the tornado sirens went off and then I knew it was time to go home.
to let people know, this storm hit just after noon Thursday June 29th 2023, very strong storm made it look dark.
It Also Hit Beardstoen
Ik i live in Springfield and when the phones and sirens started going off it got DARK QUICK
크ㅡㅋㅊㅌ
Wow! Now that’s dark! That’s scary to look at 😮
Kaden 🎉😂
awesome video! I have been obsessed with storms and tornadoes for a long time, but the last few here in Springfield have been scary. I've never seen it get so dark so fast with this one. I was prepared for it, but it came fast and furious. it rained heavily for a while, then everything went still. the sirens went off and then it hit. 112 mph winds. no power for almost 30 hours. also, sad to see so many people driving around without their lights on
I love the rain ❤
Thanks. I loved watching, no talking and no music. Just the sound of that beautiful rain. Where I'm at its nothing but triple digit weather and no rain of any kind. Been that way a while with no end in sight. yet.
Damn, so this is what the storm looked like outside, it really slammed Springfield. As soon as the sirens went off and the lights went out I rushed right into the closet so I didn't even get a chance to look outside during all that, I was afraid one of the trees in our backyard would fall onto our house. But I did watch the thunderstorm clouds come in from my window. Also I live by downtown and it was just a mess in our area as well. Thank you I've been waiting for a video on this to see what I missed.
I'm up in Rochester, we didn't have power for like 6 hours or so if I remember correctly? It was wild. I was outside trying to film it and I didn't know how fast it was coming in, had to run into some random person's garage to stay safe 😭
I was at work when the sirens went off…. Our facility has a huge generator so we had power; we were fortunate that one of the tornadoes went another direction away from our building; I didn’t know how actually it turned so dark outside…. Wow!!! Thankfully only out of power for 2 days… no deaths reported either 🙌🏾🙏🏾❤️
This is such awesome ASMR. Enjoyed this a lot, just the storm and rain. For me, as a viewer, this is really soothing. I'm sure for the driver it was the opposite!
It wasn't scary until I saw whole trees on the ground, and then the tornado sirens kicked in, I hightailed it home
opposite for those of us who live here. 112 mph winds and no power for lots of the city for going on 5 days. I love storms, but this was insane
Soothing apart from the ads every three minutes. Had to pass...
Ah. Didn't know. I have premium (ad-free). What a bummer!@@charlie.on.youtube
I miss my hometown so much, thanks for the ride around! I miss rainy days back home lol
Nice job on getting the lights to go out at the beginning. I'd neverbefore heard the sirens go off, except when they would do the noon tests. Well documented midwest thunder storm.
The power going out right away was just perfect timing!
I was in my bedroom upstairs when the alert came on my phone, went downstairs to the basement with my cat and rode it out. Looked like hell out there. Scarier thru the basement window than in this video. Lights flickered but stayed on. My sister lost power for 5 days, they got it back on the night of the 4th of July. What was funny is when I got in the basement I saw a car drive out of the cul-de-sac next to me and like 2 minutes later I saw it drive back into the cul-de-sac. "Yep, wrong time to leave the house!" 😂. I only lost internet for a few days. Had to read like i was a pilgrim. Just an awful day and horrible afterwards.
I was stuck in my semi at the prime yard
I was in the basement with my family and cats. Power went off while the sirens were still going and then it took till the following Thursday to get it back. I don't enjoy camping in my house during the summer, I can now state from experience. You were so close to my neighborhood I thought you were going to drive by a time or 2.
I remember when this storm hit, I was sitting out on our porch hanging out with my brother in law. Started off like a normal rainstorm, and the porch was covered so we figured it'd be fine, then boom, 10 minutes go by, the sky is black and you can barely see 10 feet in front of you. I remember power was out for days, and I heard from some of my friends that some power substations were actually on fire after the storm. Can't confirm that, though. Still, crazy how fast it can go from normal day to wrath of god lmao
Hello neighbor! You drove right past my house near the middle of the video.
Howdy! If you see a blue car with a bunch of GoPro cameras on the roof drive by, you will know it's me!
Really close to my house as you’re driving. Such a day!
12:30!? Damn.
Yep, 12:30 in the afternoon. Felt like night!
This is my newest "RAIN SOUNDS IN CAR, WHILE DRIVING YOU AROUND SAFELY AS YOU SLEEP" video! I found rain and storm videos a year ago.. changed my life crying 😭 I suffer from insomnia and depression and they help me fall and stay asleep.. or help relax my nerves when having anxiety, panic or manic episodes. Thank you for this video..idk if you intended for it to be an ASMR Rain Video or not, but it's one for me, lol. Put it on loop and taking a well needed nap and then tonight, I'll play it, again ❤ 💖
Thank you, love to hear that! It wasn’t my intention but I have found out people watch my videos for all kinds of reasons
You're welcome and I'm glad to have found your channel ❤
It's amazing how the same sounds / situation can have two contradictory purposes. For you, rain and storms are comforting, relaxing. For me, they cause anxiety and fear.
I got caught in a storm like this in southwest Iowa last July. The rain was so heavy that cornstalks were toppled over. I couldn't see the road and had to pull over. Luckily I was close to an exit and went to a truck stop.
the graphics are so realistic😲
My state capital ravaged and I have family there . Took us forever to reach them because the cell service was knocked out and I live three hours north of there .
I just got off work at Harbor Freight and left the parking lot when it hit. Made it home quickly since I live close by. Fortunate that my house didn't lose power. All other family members lost from for 2-6 days. Not particularly a fun Fourth of July weekend.
Thank you!
you bet
Well I can tell you that living in Albuquerque these days, this video is a sight for soar eyes. We haven’t had a real storm of this magnitude in what seems like forever. There were times when we actually did receive these type of storms but I can’t recall when that was. I could watch this video all day. Sure wish we could somehow trade weather systems.
Very exciting to watch and listen to the rain
Awesome...thanks...I've got kin folk in that town....🙏
The Best!!! Awesome!!!! More in the future! Next best thing to actually being there.
Derecho usually comes when the weather is very hot and lack of rain. Then the weather returns to normal.
I just randomly saw this video. I didn't realize it would have been this bad. I saw a bike in this weather
Two bikes! Bad luck!
We had these same storms, Derecho’s where I live.
I live here and was with my Grandma during this storm
Same
@@If.YK_YK it won’t be the same with out her she passed away a month later after the storm she passed away on July 25 2023
@@MichaelFNAFRoblox2024 im so so sorry for your loss I hope you can know that one day you will be with her hopefully
@@If.YK_YK thanks and yes I know that some day I will see her again I’m glad that the tornado didn’t take her I didn’t want anything to take her but still thank u
Loop this 300 times for me ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
the image quality is really nice.
it reminds me my childhood, such noise, a little thunder storm in the distance... ah, I want to go back there...
During the storm, me and my brother were in the basement, shivering with fear during the storm because it was our first ever storm and my parents were upstairs trying to check it all out me and him were in the basement for at least two hours. Scared for life’s with no power for at least 5 to 4 hours.
It looked like the storm started to abate towards the end, but more towards this video's beginning, the very broad gust belt was still with "us". Even is you were still driving very slowly, the gusts could better organize themselves in more open terrain, so that even on some grades, up or down, you have this depth of gust-piled water exceeding an inch covering most streets. That will form a wedge that forces itself under your tires, so that you almost have to be stopped, to let your tires settle back upon pavement. Otherwise, even at slow speeds you still could stand a good chance of hydro-planing. I noticed vast tracts of respectably deep ponding. Poorly designed vehicles could easily ingest this water into their engines/trannys/differentials/fuel tanks, etc., thus killing the vehicles dead in their tracks. I suppose good mechanics may still revive the vehicles after flushing everything out of the remotest cavities of an engine, gas tank, and tranny, and starting anew with new fluids and fuel. So, the take-home message is a pileup of water where there ought not to be.
77K views, well done.
when this storm hit i was outside watching the clouds when all of a sudden the wind starts blowing hard and we had a severe thunderstorm warning pretty fun storm
Great T-storm. Believe it or not, this is almost exactly what we get in California in a rainy season. We get storms almost exactly like this. Lots of puddles everywhere and severe flooding. That's what we had last winter.
Its real close to when a thunderstorm ends and a tornado begins goddamn
I think i remember this it went Mattoon lol after hearing those sirens n trying to get to my neighbors safely downstairs i almost flew away i freak out but i was ok i made it inside their house.
I remember when it went through Champaign Illinois . The hospital I was in lost power for a couple hours
Wow! Talk about the worst place ever to have a power outage!
@@exploreusacities yep. I had a panic attack as a result of the storm
Congrats on the 14k views. You'll have to cruise more storms 😀
I promised my wife I wouldn't become a storm-chaser. But if a nice storm drops in my lap, I won't hesitate!
This storm snapped a 4 foot pin oak I had in the front yard in half and threw it into my driveway (Chatham, about 150 yards from the tornado path).
Yikes
Kaden 🎉😊
South Florida heavy rain extremely close lightning
Extreme lightning
It was a very scary storm I remover seeing it get very dark and then the wind…
Sirens can also go off for 70+ mph winds and very large hail, not just a Tornado Warning. They’re called “Outdoor Warning Sirens” partially for that reason.
cool guy
0:19 - Dark, it looks like a scene from the apocalypse.
It would be exciting to drive around like this in a big storm - unless or until something like a stoplight or a pole or a big branch or an entire tree hits your car.
I want to know how the audio is so clear, like it's recording from outside the car. And how I don't see your window wipers either. Just curious if you strapped this to the top of your car in a waterproof casing or something... Really excellent video and sound.
Hello! Thank you for your comments. I will answer your questions in reverse order. The way I film is with GoPro cameras attached to the roof of my car. For this video, I had just a single camera, because I attached the camera after the rain already started pouring and I was in a hurry to get rolling. Normally, I'd attach all four of my cameras for multiple angles. The camera has a water-repelling lens, so the beads of water just roll right off the lens. Now, about the sound. I get a lot of comments on my great sound. I modified one of my GoPro cameras to dampen the sound of the wind howling, which is inevitable considering the cameras are outside of the car. However, for this video, the sound was so bad that I had to actually fake it. On this particular video, the sound was so awful that I couldn't stand listening to it. So my options were to upload the original audio and offend everyone's eardrums, upload the video muted (which is highly undesirable), or try my best to re-create the sound using pre-recorded footage. There was so much wind and rain that the video just sounded like a person slurping water through a straw the entire time. Sorry to "trick" you like that.
@@exploreusacities I am in awe of your GoPro with water-repelling lens. And, no one would EVER notice you used a different audio. It's super well done. That's cool that you have a sound bank of different sounds from videos you've previously taken, that works! (I don't feel tricked at all, haha!) But I did imagine that wind buffeting the mic in that kind of storm to be out of control, so I was curious. Really well done on both fronts, with just one cam and different audio overlay. I'm ADHD and I watched the whole thing, so it was great! :D
hello It's a nice video. I am not American and I do not live in America. I even live on the other side of the ocean :D. Every time on the Internet we read such weather conditions and hurricanes on the Internet that they are in Florida or Texas. That's why when I first saw the video, I thought it was Florida or Texas. True, this information does not mean much. Just wanted to share. Thanks.
No windshield whippers ? I also didn't see so much as a single flash of lightning for the amount of intense thunder there was.
It's a conspiracy!
i saw lightning in the vid
I had no power for 3 days...an mind you the temps went back to 80-90 degrees
I live in Carrollton Illinois and we had a very big storm I think Carrollton is only 54 miles out of Springfield
Yep, I think the whole state got hammered at once. We needed the rain!

@@exploreusacities seriously. 😮 Good catch bud. Also I love driving in storms, sadly my neck of the woods hardly gets poop.
Man on bike.
There were two very unlucky gentlemen on bikes! This storm came on quick and hard.
Is the audio from a different storm?
The audio was created by me using like 5 different clips. I inserted the siren clip right when the actual sirens started sounding. The original audio was totally unusable, all you could hear was water draining from the microphones; it sounded like someone slurping water through a straw.
@@exploreusacities ahh okay 👍🏼
Strikes tree
0:00
Yuh but where is the real audio?
Why would you want the real audio?
Too bad you can't hear the actual storm.
🤍🌧⛈
Why the fake audio? Adding an audio track that's clearly not recorded while driving around and obviously doesn't match up with the action on screen is disingenuous and unnecessary. It detracts from what is otherwise some pretty beautifully-shot high quality footage.
Because the real audio sounds like a toddler slurping water through a straw.
Saw that one moron blow right through the power-out intersection without coming to s stop. Guess idiot drivers ARE all over the nation. Some storm that was!
Yeah it seems like there are lots of people who think that if the power is out at a traffic light that you get to just cruise right through.
The soundtrack is suspicious to the actual videos footage. I hear no engine stopping or going, or even the tires rolling, especially on a very wet road. Furthermore, the sirens appear to be stationary even though the vehicle is moving. And inside of any vehicle, the rain doesn't sound like that; and you hear thunder that's not in sink with the lightning. This video should be audio only, and used as sleep relaxation.
you cracked the case
@@exploreusacities I'm surprised that I didn't get a heart emoji for that.
