Boys, remember your high school physics, acceleration of a falling object is 9.8 m/s/s regardless of weight, until it reachs a terminal velocity of 118mph, in a bomber, the pilot did not release the bombs, they had someone else aboard who did.
Terminal velocity is not 118mph for all objects. I know you know this. Just your post made it sound like that so I wanted to make sure if someone else came along they had that clarification
Correct, Mass does not influence acceleration, but it does influence the force on the object, so a heavier bomb will hit the ground with a greater force

Have you considered adding a bombardier’s camera? A second man could have a VR headset and a radio with stick control…approaching the target, the bombardier takes over and guides it in and releases.
That’s hat I almost said then I read this comment And 2, you could also use a normal camera, but facing downward with great fps and cross-hares.

Could you run a second radio and an FPV for the bomb site and bomb release and have a bombardier in charge of the drop? Seems like it would be pretty easy to set up and would take the guess work out of it. Still, that was an incredible drop of precision with LOS flying and such altitude! Josh has some serious piloting skills! Great episode! Been a fan since 2012! Thanks for all you do!
Could use iNav on a F411-WTE FC to have the bomb site FPV camera adjust angle based on altitude and speed too. Wouldn't take much work in the Logic Commands, but probably several test flights.

Flying Tank was THE Flight Test GOAT Episode!!! Such a victory! It wasn't suppose to fly yet fly it did! Personal Favourite!! Bring on the massive flying tank please. Good vibrations to the whole flight test Crew, fans, builders & flyers!
we (me and my nephews and nieces) made drop bombs too but we used paper mesh to make shell rather than using plastic or 3d printed parts since those were kinda suppose to explode and spread out powdered color fillings. also i forgot to mention one of my nephew used those empty juice box as shell. easier to fill and no cost in built.
I think adding small parachutes to the bombs will give you bigger coverage and accuracy on the drop. May be even can get a video shot of hits from the air..

You can drop multiple bombs in sequence using a single motor and a carousel. It might have been a squeeze to fit it into the B25 but I'd love to see a more complex release mechanism that allows for multiple bombing runs in future attempts :)
idea: Make an airport out of cardboard, fill it with anti air guns, and have a bomber plane attack it
Awesome as always! For the next project I suggest Chuck Yeager's X1 test flight. Maybe with a small rocket drive, dropped from the wing of the B17?
G1 Transformers had a character named Blitzwing. He was a Decepticon triple changer and very popular. He changed from a jet to a tank and to a robot. That big flying tank made me think of Blitzwing. Very cool
Would be interesting to have a 2nd person running bombs like the B17 turrets. A bomb site with elevation and ground speed would help dial it in.

Just an idea to take the bomber to the next level, the bombardier can wear fpv goggles and have a camera pointing down simulating bomb sights and have the bombardier launch the bombs. Just a thought

if you use the line tracking kits on the tanks you could set up a line outside having a moving convoy of tanks and then you could do bombing runs or hook the plane up with one of the laser systems and the tanks with receivers and when they get shot a thingymabob blows up (idk if that would work, its like the architects dream is an engineers nightmare kinda thing.... yknow)

It would be great if you guy’s included a bomber view, since the bombers would have a sight with a crosshair on it that was fixed to show where the bombs would hit, that would definitely make it a lot easier to aim!

Hey @FliteTest i have a question. With larger builds, do you use multiple receivers linked to 1 transmitter if you have too many functions to connect to 1 receiver? Im just asking because i plan to build a plane and the gear system is really complex because i want to have it realistic to the gear of the actual plane so it looks good. Love your content btw🤩

WWII German Fritz X guide bomb should be next. Put in a camera in the nose with glider capability and a 2nd human controller guides the bomb to the target. A Ju-88 host could be made or just keep the B-25 for time savings. Bonus points if you put an Estes “A” rocket motor in the back for added speed. I’d also recommend protecting the nose well so the camera inside can be reused.

Now you need a down looking targeting camera set for altitude and angle with cross hairs for easier spotting drop points.

What you should do is put a downward facing fpv camera on the bomber that aligns with the proper bomb trajectory that a "bombardier" would wear while a pilot flies the plane. It be a remote Nord bombsight of sorts.
Release the plans for that tank, and see what the flight test family can do with it. I foresee all sorts of crazy builds with it.

Use the A36 or Stuka to dive bomb the tanks. Also a bomb release to drop 2 at a time instead of all at once, give you more chances. Fun video.
Put an fpv camera in the nose pointing down for the bombardier to use as a sight. They can have control of the drop so all you have to do is fly.

Back in the 70's we made what we called a Ninja smoke bomb. It was a hand thrown ball that would create a cloud of smoke when it hit the ground.

Have you looked at the DJI T-40 agricultural drones. They can lift a person easy as they can carry well over 100 pounds. They are a bit pricy at $26K for the whole kit (drone, battery, charger, remote...). The sprayer system and tanks are easy to remove and it has a heavy duty open tube frame with the center open. Think of the things you could do with that.
You should make a "bomber" fpv unit and wire the bomb release to a separate receiver for the "bombardier" then the pilot can line up and the bombardier can release based on his live feed. Maybe angle the fpv camera forward 15 degrees or so.
