    • Honestly the oscars have never really cared about the animation industry IMO. There is absolutely no reason why animated films cannot share the best picture category with non-animated features. Also, look how long it took for them to even acknowledge animated movies for academy awards. I know that animation industry has the Annies, but I still think it’s a massive slap in the face that they can’t be judged alongside normal live action pictures.

    • Some actually worked really hard and also struggled to make ends meet like Ke Hue Quran. I think also these shows can bring a lot of attention towards those who are actually interested into the film and or theater business such as myself. Also these awards shows are also very important to what is reflected upon our modern society, such as representation often being overlooked and award shows finally giving awards to underrated or under appreciated artists. I absolutely agree tho, so much can be corrupted and not really true to what these award shows should really hold to as their morals. And even the rich and privileged again being recognized as rich and privileged. Award shows have come a long way and maybe haven’t changed for the better. TLDR; I agree but award shows like these can hold my interest if it’s like an underdog type of story winning an award.

      @chantalgroot4275@chantalgroot42752 жыл бұрын
    • @@chantalgroot4275 As far as niche awards shows go, there are actually awards ceremonies such as the Creative Arts Emmys which honor technical achievements in the industry-they just aren't really advertised or as well known because the general public doesn't really care, nor would they really be familiar with any of the names that receive those awards. Also, @Chantal Groot, you are incorrect here because in fact there are categories for stunt performance at some awards shows. Again, people just don't necessarily know this because they don't care/pay attention. For example, the 2021 "outstanding stunt performance" Emmy went to a stunt actor from the Mandalorian

He talked about how he was happy that his work was getting seen, but he felt like it was weirdly racist that they called him a rapper just because he was a black man who made a mixed genre album. Tyler isn’t a rapper anymore and has talked about how he hated doing rap but he though it was all he could make because of his voice. • Yeah I think that whole thing was stupid. It's like, what, 3 people said they just vote for what their kid likes. Out of HOW MANY voters? The category is like 20 years old and Disney has won a whole 1/5 or so of the time, and I'm sorry you're smoking some contaminated weed if you don't think Pixar deserved the majority of its wins. What's actually ridiculous is that the animated features almost never get Best Picture nominations.

    • I mean, that sounds like a good idea in theory, but, in reality, that would be wasting the efforts of the designers who probably spent months or even an year to prepare those gowns (I'm only talking about the gowns since suits usually aren't as hard to produce unless its something like what lil nas x or tyler would wear). Even if they won't wear them again, ruining a intricately made gown that was painstakingly made like its nothing can definitely hurt the designers personally because they'll feel like their efforts were for nothing. Designers like seeing their clothes out and about for people to see even if it is just a one-wear gown and trust me, designers want the outfits they make for these celebs to stay perfect the entire presentation/event. Like, imagine if you make something, like a painting or food, and someone just comes and ruins it, demolishing your hard work along with it. At least for the kids choice awards, the celebs there wear outfits that usually aren't that fancy because they know they're gonna get slimed, but for a prestigious event like the emmys or oscars, that ain't gonna work out Source: My mother is a seamstress, trust me, do NOT mess with custom-made clothes. You have to think about different perspectives too, destroying an expensive handmade gown can have a severe impact on the designer. Its better for something to rot away in a closet forever than to be completely destroyed, making it unusable

  • Harvey Weinstein was also one of the first guys who really focused a lot of his energy on awards shows for his studio. He realized that if you can schmooze to win awards, then you could easily rack up a lot of wins for your studio by buying the right content and schmoozing in the right way. He also realized what you described-using the massively recognized prestige of the Oscars and other awards as a marketing strategy for your films. So you can thank Harvey Weinstein for creating the modern corruption we witness at these events. They were always corrupt but he was one of the first of the modern era to really milk it for all its worth.

  • I think another element worth noting that makes award shows persist is the need for spectacle. Specifically, celebrities want to show up in expensive outfits, feel prestigious, get some connections, then leave. It’s not even about the audience, the general public, anymore, I’m not sure it ever has been. I’m so sick of people with money telling me what I should like and care about. I’ve had more fulfilling conversations about film with online communities than I have ever seen on television. Additionally, KZhead is where some of the best commentaries on current and past films/tv shows have been made. We’ve collectively outgrown award shows.

    • 100% they should just privatize it. It's only about people in the industry it always has been and it should just be that way. Why should we care ? This is for their work not ours ? I wouldn't ask randos in the street to watch recording of my work reward ceremony. They won't care. Why should they ? I wouldn't care about theirs. I barely care about mine.
