Chorus:
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
I'm begging of you please don't take my man
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
Please don't take him just because you can
Your beauty is beyond compare
With flaming locks of auburn hair
With ivory skin and eyes of emerald green
Your smile is like a breath of spring
Your voice is soft like summer rain
And I cannot compete with you, Jolene

What I love about this song is that she’s not like “fuck off you ugly bitch” she’s recognising her beauty but also expressing her insecurity about how fragile love is. It’s a very tender song but a powerful exclamation of her emotions.

Couldn’t have summed it up better. It’s a very emotional song about insecurities and vulnerability, and how people will stay in bad relationships because they love others. It’s tragic.

Thru the bs..so when she says she raised him up..hey.lol
I wonder how outstanding Jolene looked, if woman as beautiful as Dolly "couldn't compete with her". It's beyond my imagination.
Jolene might not be as beautiful as her, but she was just complementing her to back off.
that wasn't the point of her calling Jolene beautiful. Jolene might have been a vixen, and those types of people live to break up relationships. She is admitting she is inferior to Jolene in hopes that Jolene doesn't take her one and only love.
maybe jolene is just fiction...
There's a series on Netflix about 8 the top dolly Parton songs
I just seen her say jolene was a young girl who asked for an autograph. Dolly complemented her saying she was very pretty and asked her for her name. She told the young girl she was going to write a song with her name and if she ever hears it she’ll know it was about her inspiration.

Madison Snooks old country is so good imo
@@sarabumgarner3345 IKR!
@@sarabumgarner3345 Yes, I dont much care for contemporary country as it is now, but there is a rich, wide world of classic country that is excellent. And Dolly Parton is a great songwriter!
Same😂💀
I too cant stand 99.9% of country but this song is amazing
*My mom used to listen to these songs soon after the divorce with my dad, she was hurt and struggled a lot after to feed 4 children, hope she found peace and love in heaven Rest In Peace mom ❤❤*

Beyoncé sent me but I already know you’re legendary. Thanks for being an ally when your peers wanted to be her enemy ❤
The fact the VA director went "Ya do this line like Dolly Parton" was so awesome to hear. Too bad the dub version didn't go that heavy into it.
I imagine it was out of fear of copyright infringement, like all the other dub changes.
hear the french dub its so close
Maybe the VA didn't have the singing voice cut out for it
I don't know if this is true but I think the dub couldn't be too close to the song because of copyright. sad that it wasnt there though for the dub watchers
@@xoxopenquin another day another L for dub watchers
What a nice song, we all GWESS that it is a hit in a Florida prison. Edit: Y'all I know that this joke is cringe but talk to my 3 months ago self who tought this was funny.
I see what u did there 😉
Cringe
Damn..
😐
lol
oh yes, this hits better.
Damn imagine what Jolene must look like for Dolly to be threatened by her lol
CS:GOCEANIC Dolly wrote this song back when her and Carl had only been married for a few years, apparently there was a secretary at Carl's place of work that kept flirting with him. He Almost gave into her flirts. Dolly found out and wrote the song.
Christina Hendricks is the only face I can imagine when I hear this song
My thoughts exactly.
She literally tells you - in the song - what Jolene looks like. Reddish-brown hair and green eyes means she is very exotic looking like a bewitching seductress in a fairy tale.
In an interview she says that Jolene was a little girl who looks exactly like she described in the song. This girl was a fan who jumped on the stage to meet Dolly. Dolly said "You are the most beautiful thing i have ever seen. What's your name?" She said "Jolene" Then Dolly said "Oh I know! Your father's name must be Joe and they named you after him." And Jolene responded "No... Just Jolene." And Dolly said " Jolene. I will write a song about you and you will think of this if you hear it anywhere." Search it on youtube. I watched the interview. Maybe she connected Jolene's beauty to what she experiences with her husband?
seeing the jojo fans slowly find their way to the comment section on this video is like watching a tsunami approaching in slow motion

Hello there

I don't watch Jojo so I. Don't get the joke
come here just to reminds myself who is THE REAL QUEEN and who is a REAL ARTIST.
The most amazing voice ever. Taught me a lot. Thoughness is only through kindness and honesty.
I think the best part of this song is how she doesn't blame Jolene for anything. It's not mad at her. She's like girl you are gorgeous you could have any man you want it's just that I only want this one. And you haven't flirted with him you're not trying to take him away but he's got this hang up on you and I'm just asking you politely to make sure he knows that you're not available. We need more like that.
I'm a man and if a man has already had someone and still fall for others... That's messed up. He doesn't love you anymore. If a girl already knows that and still want him back, that girl is broken... too broken... If i ever loved another person when i have my gf who loves me to this point, i'm a terrible human being. No excuses for another girl being more beautiful or something. Honestly, he probably saved her from hell if she's still yearn for him after all of that.
It better to be honest with your gf nad brokeup with her .. @@qmt1610
@@qmt1610 Dolly kept her husband. Jolene was a bank teller that wanted Dollys husband. Jolene didn't get him lol. Her and her husband are still married. She's told this story many times

I had to listen to this after whatever beyonce did. I love her. But this is just so superior
i feel like she describes death as a beautiful woman 🤷♀️
Holy shit... you right
That takes the whole song to a completely different level...
yes yes it does
Jolene does actually exist, Dolly said she was a beautiful redhead that tried to steal her husband, but ig it can hide a deeper meaning
That would honestly may the song similar to Shakespeare's Sister's Stay With Me. Where a woman basically has to fight Death Herself to save her sick man.
Dolly's man *exists* Jolene "hippity hoppity you are now my property"
