Making a Bent Lamination Office Chair //
For the Rockler bent wood challenge being put on the the Modern Maker Podcast, I made a bent lamination wood office chair.
I've built a few wood chairs, but this was by far the most complicated because of all the bent lamination wood parts. It definitely stretched my abilities as a woodworker to build this chair.
There have been lots of cool entries into the Rockler Bent wood Challenge, and I'm looking forward to see the videos others publish.
The design of office chair has a very Ikea feel, according to Chris Salomone from Foureyes, but I can't argue with. I do love the minimalistic midcentury modern look the chair has, and the bent lamination pieces flow really well into each other.

This was an epic undertaking! I love simple designs with a complex execution. You have every right to be proud of this one!
Thanks, Dustin. I’m so happy with how it turned out. Exactly what I imagined/had hoped it would look like.
This is truly one of the most beautiful office chairs - especially for watching Fortnite. First off - I am so happy the glue bottle mishap made the cut and on a more serious note, the addition of the walnut armrests is one of my favorite parts, so I'm glad you added that to the design - awesome work Kris!
Thanks, Ethan. Yeah had to leave it in there. Haha. The armrests was a perfect example of a TSN game day decision
Incredible!!
Amazing build, I really loved your vision on this office chair. Sleek and sturdy!
Thanks, Danny. It’s been rattling around in my brain for like two years
This was SO DOPE! Thank you fro sharing!
We are obsessed with your office chair design! Love the use of our Thin Air Press!!
It worked perfectly! I highly recommend your air press to others
That chair is the star. Change the office decor !!
Dude you killed this project! Wow. Something I've never even considered to do but you make it look easy. Thanks for taking us through the process. I gotta stop by the office and try it out
Thanks, Shaun. It all was a matter of process and just taking things one step at a time.
Great build and video! The subtle bends in the seat and chair back are some of my favorite details!
Thanks, B-Dog. It makes the chair TONS more comfortable too
Wow! Awesome! That chair looks amazing.
Thanks, Ivan.
Excellent work!
Yeah... That looks AMAZING... I love it!!!!
Thanks
This chair is excellent, blown away man!!
Thanks, Grant. I couldn’t be happier with how it came out.
That thing is beautiful man
Spectacular!! My heart nearly went up my throat when that piece broke on you! Fantastic save! You did a really awesome job dude. I tipped my hat to you!
Thanks, Reuben. It was a stressful moment when it broke and it took me a few days of problem solving to work up to getting back to re making it.
Chair came out great and it is obvious that you enjoyed making it. Great work!
Oh man, disputed the hiccups along the was, it was a super fun build.
Holy smokes that's so cool! Stunning work my friend.
Thanks, Josh. So happy with how it came out.
Uau. Beautiful project!
amazing chair!!!!!
How could I not sub for something this epic! Honestly speaking, even with all the power tools, this has definitely taken forever and I understand your pain. I don't have a whole lot of power tools and my sander broke in the spring, so I've spent the past week renovating two dining chairs made of fir. Both of them were painted white, so I had to strip off the paint with a heat gun and scraper, then sand them with 60 grid and then with 150 grid, before fixing the dowels that broke, giving it wax and put it back together. There are 36 pieces total. I'm almost through the 150 grid sanding stage. Did 12 pieces in 60 grid today and 30 in 150. Safe to say, I'm tired of sanding. Also, my hand hurts 😂
Fantastic bro! Bent lam with funky joints and angles is an incredible challenge and you nailed it! Bravo!
Thanks, Keith. Just trying to keep up with the Johnson’s.
Mortgage & Mitre I think you just wheeled on by...

I can’t say enough how much I appreciate your comment. Inspiring others is just a rewarding as the actual build can be.
I think this is my favourite entry to the bent lamination competition!! Fantastic work!!!

My lady's response to watching this video with me: "thats a cool f@*$ing chair!" I would agree!
I’ll f@*$ing take that.
Very nice, I like the addition of the walnut armrest, good call!

Amazing build! it was fun watching the progress pics on insta. Keep it up!
Thanks, Michael. Almost didn’t recognize you in this photo. Haha.
@@furthernorthfab Yea, Its sad when the career photo takes president over the fun one. I think its time to change it haha.

Oh man... I rarely comment, but this is fantastic. I guess we have winner:))) Fingers crossed!
I appreciate that. There’s lots of crazy awesome entries.
A bucket…savage 😂
Three thumbs up!!!!!!!
Is that even possible?!? Regardless, I’ll take it.
Mortgage & Mitre I’ll figure out a way.
Great project and great channel, *subscribed*, Thanks, Robin
Thanks, Robin
Beautiful chair. I love this challenge, but I haven't been able to do anything for it. Don't think I'll have time with it being craft show season and just moving.
Yeah, it was definitely one of the more time consuming projects this year.
Very nice! I need to get one of those vaccum systems. You could have really damaged someone or your pice pushing the wood on the wrong side of the router bit against the fence. I made that mistake only once. It's easy to make the mistake.
you win
Thumbs up just for the GI Joe animated clip
Can’t beat those Real American Heroes
Awesome Build and Video! A big thumbs up! Id give two but Blake already commented my other one...
So why not 4? Haha. Thanks for watching, Taylor.

@6:40......U got me laughing out loud.....like u were hiding and checking out the coast lol.....
Thanks. Haha. Glad people get my humour in the video edits
You are amazing
Thanks, Rasoul. I appreciate you watching.
Thinking of making a base like this for a chair from ikea, since the ones it come with are a fake stainless-looking one - how has it stood up with the weight/use over the years? The split seemed inevitable at first with just how much force these wedges make!
Bad ass!
Like it
Awesome video! Can you please tell me where you bought the aircraft plywood?
I got it from my local hardwood dealer. They had to order it in, but it was worth it.
That’s my dad!!!
you should be proud of him!
Thinking about making the same base and legs for a project of my own what would you recommend to someone that has half the equipment you have.
Grain orientation, and use epoxy for glue. 😂
good day! where can I find the plan of this chair?
Wow, he is your double..!!
You win
Lots of killer entries.

Nice chair, but Jesus dude! The sheer lack of safety in some of these cuts
Reliable? Only for children.
Splendidly to see Woodglut have new plans which helped me save some money and energy for this construction.
Bro, can you just give angles to us ?
Sorry, this is a one of one. I do have Sketchup files for the build
