Old Brass Opera Glasses | Restoration
Absolutely brilliant mate. You were very brave knocking those threads out. I wouldn’t have been game to do that. Very interesting to see how to polish the lenses. 👍
Hey Mark, I was pretty nervous while doing that, and it worked pretty fine 😄
While I love the restorations I equally appreciate the humor you inject into your videos😂
Lovely, all the way around. Loved the closeups during both disassembly and reassembly, you could clearly see what you were doing. Thanks for sharing this gorgeous item with us all.
Thanks you so much Vickie!
My young son and I love watching your videos. He particularly enjoys the cat moments! 🙂
Haha, thanks Matt and greets to the son! ✌️
Great work! But I confess that watching those beautiful brass parts etching broke my heart
I feel you here, but I wanted to keep it original.
Looking down a reflective surface is suboptimal
Loving the Black Etching ink on brass idea. I've been hitting a wall for inspiration on a project I had on the back burner for a while, and your etching idea finally gave me inspiration on the next step to take. Thanks you very much! Cool video!!!
Thanks man, iam glad I could inspire you :-)
Great! Job! I’ve seen others use “clear wrap” to wrap the items.
Yes, I did as well but I ran out of clear wrap…😅
Those are so cool. I’ve never heard of ink etching until now! Nice job on the restore.
Every time i watch a restoration video i expect to see the best way to restore the parts. Sometimes some materials like glass or old plastic require special attention and very few restorers get into trouble to do the needed research. You sir deserve a like for been one of the few, and show us professionalism in a very short video. Thank you!
Hey man, thank you so much for your kind words! 🙂✌️
Great work! Now all you need is an opera.
Haha, thanks!
Hell yea. got the notification immediately started watching my friend do his thing.
Haha, thanks a lot my friend!
That taste test was totally unexpected and hilarious hahahahahaha
Haha, iam glad you liked it!
Looks beautiful! Having breakfast watching it! Thanks! Rio de Janeiro - Brazil
Haha, good start in the day!
Why am I binge watching these at 2 a.m.? They're good, that's why. Relaxing, entertaining, unique.
I do exactly the same 🤷🏻♂️😂
Iam glad youre having fun..! :-)
Thanks to your useful video, this klutz gathered enough know how and inspiration to clean up a pair of long neglected silver-plate Chevalier Paris glasses with family significance. No presences at restoration here! However, with your calm example, I was able to take the glasses apart, clean and polish the various metals with materials I had on hand, and (most importantly), put it all back together. I wouldn’t have had the nerve to tackle this without your video, but now our glasses look like something worth saving instead of a piece of junk. (Also, thanks to the comment suggesting using Barkeeper’s Friend. Perfect for my non-silver needs!)
This is an absolute master class. A very delicate item handled with expert precision. Well done!
Thanks, iam glad you enjoyed! 🙂
Great job! Next time, wrap the parts in Saran Wrap (Plastic) rather than aluminum foil, I think that will make you happy.
To refer to this man's efforts as workmanship is an understatement. He is a craftsman and his work shows his high level of craftsmanship. Every piece he restores is a work of art. His videos are a delight to watch - and they are watched with envy. Well done and I look forward to seeing many more.
Hey John, thanks you SO much for your kind words, I really appreciate!
You really focused in on that job, excellent to say the least friend, have a nice day !!!.
Hey Brian, thanks man!
That mhmm caught me off guard😂 love it tho
Haha, thanks man, iam glad you enjoyed!
Wow... I have exactly the same binoculars. Only in the best condition and in a leather sheath. Made in Austria. My grandfather brought these binoculars from service in the Red Army in the 30s of the last century.
Always keep them...! :-)
@@misterpatina Necessarily. This is historical memory.
Ngl… I loved all the patina!
Another great restoration. Love the mini polisher. 💕 and nice to see kitty helper again. Thank you 😻
Hey Tabby! Thanks a lot 🙂
I've never seen brass in so much pain... It really needed this restoration!
Haha, thanks!
6:55 dude... LMAO. I'm tryna sleep but you cracked me up hahaha..
Haha, sorry bro! 😄
I'd almost call those swaged or flared together rather than press-fit, bold move to separate them! Interesting how the lenses each appear to be two parts, and are painted black around the outside rim. Huh, ink-etching, is that like cold-bluing but for brass instead of steel? Very similar effect. Quite the intricate little thing, nicely restored! Might have less of that fuzzy halo of reflected light around the outside of the viewing area if the inside of the main body was painted black, but otherwise well done!
Great technical sense of "machinery".
Tengo unos exactamente iguales, herencia de familia, en perfecto estado. Me alegra ver como se recuperan estas antiguas glorias. Seguro que a traves de sus lentes han visto pasar muchos acontecimientos. Buen trabajo. Saludos desde España. 🇪🇸
A real pleasure to watch. I really like your sense of humor 🐈😄
Haha, thanks Christoph!
They look beautiful.... I like to try those. When are we going to the opera? 😂...Great work.
Haha! Thanks Doyle!
Badass. Especially the ink etching.
Thanks!
Very impressive and delicate work, and turned out so beautiful.
Thanks my friend!
Great work - love the lens work
Thanks Gerry! 🙂

Thanks Tyler, iam glad you like it :-)
Bravly to Open the pressed parts. One of your best Projects.
Thank you so much! 🙂
настоящий мастер!!! очень терпелив к своей работе👏👏👏мне особенно понравилось как вы микроскоп привели в рабочее состояние!! респект Вам!!
Seems like a simple job at first, but there was a lot of delicate parts to deal with. Great to learn about some of the substances you used as well. Thank you very much Mr. Patina 😊. 😎
Thanks a lot John, you’re welcome!
What a beautiful glasses, and the idea on how to restore them. And creative use of the "Old wooden handle"TM :)
Thanks!
Nice work
Amazing! Can't wait until the next one! ♥️

Thanks my friend! 🙂
Wow absolutely amazing. You are very skilled. Keep up the good work .
Thanks man!
Lovely piece, amazing restoration
Thanks!
I'm a fan of highly polished brass. When you said you were going to etch the brass I yelled in my head "Nooooooo!". But that was a great idea! Those glasses look incredible! Job well done!
Thanks a lot! Iam also a fan of the polished brass, but wanted to keep it original. I am glad you like it!
I liked how it turned out for the binoculars..Awesome work
Thanks Charlie?
Very nicely done! Amazing outcome and plenty of skills on show! 👍
Thanks Andy!
Gorgeous 👍
Absolutely awesome!! Those threads getting tapped out put me on the edge of my chair lol :) What opera are you going to with those?
Haha, thanks Martin! There’s only one opera - the 'Alte Oper Frankfurt' 🙂
This is so cool. I actually got a set just like these, exept mine has leather sleeves but missing the center piece with the screw.

Thanks!

Thanks Susannah! 🙂
Greetings from Petersburg! I can `t believe my eyes! Dude, you have not forgotten that you tamed us (not like someone from Switzerland, let's not point fingers at him). And now you must to please us always with your work. You now have binoculars, look how many of us there are. And we need your new works. And by the way, how are Mrs. Patina and Mr. Patina Jr.?
Haha, thanks my friend! The patinas doing well, but the junior didn’t want to join us so far…right now, we’re just waiting…🙂
Thanks, I enjoyed watching this.
Iam glad you did 🙂
Amazing work restoring a piece with so many fine threads. Love it! You've got my sub.
Thanks my friend!
My Grandfather had a pair very similar that he had in the first world war . Could possibly run the threads on a tap . Very cool .
My grandad had the same in the trenches
Sweet. Very well done. They look better than new.
Thanks man!
What a great restore!
Thanks Nora! 🙂

Thanks a lot my friend!
@@misterpatina You're very welcome!!
I was curious how you were going to get that apart. But, as always, great job, sir. 🤙
Hey B, as you know, it always looks more easy than it actually was 😄 Thanks!
One of my favorites you've done! Super interesting construction, and I love the way it turns out; great look!!
...lookin' good, nice work, keep safe and have a great weekend

Thanks Amigo!
Ottimo lavoro maestro, complimenti 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Gracie Mille!
Excellent!
Thanks James!
Wonderful brother ❤️
Thanks!
Wow great job. I was in Paris few weeks ago and purchased at flee market looks like same exact opera binoculars as those. I was wondering if u know what year they were made . Thank you
¡Gracias Roberto!
Marvellous.
great job
Thanks!
Perfect
Thanks!
Well done ! Did you lacquered the brass to avoid tarnish?
Great video!
Thanks Timothy!
A Beautyfull Job Love it and next perfect Video 🌹❤️🌹👍
Thanks Pascal 🥳
Very nice work

Love you work and craftsmanship. Curious, have you spent time in Australia? Your captions sound similar to how we speak here.
Thanks buddy! No, unfortunately never been there. Iam from Germany 🤷🏻♂️
@@misterpatina Defiantly come visit, you'd fit right in! I visited Germany for 6 month and it was wonderful!
6:53 RIP taste buds
i have a pair of similar opera glasses made in Paris
I had a pair of these when I was a teen
I wonder what was the first ever restoration video uploaded on youtube?
All that extra work yet it was most beautiful right after the wire brushing. RIP to is character
Wire brushing? These opera glasses were original blackened, so I did best to hold its character.
@@misterpatina didn't mean any offense honestly. It's all about personal preference, I just love the weathered antique look
@@user-ho9gt3ly6b hey, all good! Its always a personal preference like you said :-)
@@misterpatina you really do great work btw, you definitely are detailed
Very cool.😊
