UPDATE 2: We've now confirmed with several people that have bought the monitor at retail, along with LG Electronics themselves, that retail 27GP850 models come with firmware that has MBR (backlight strobing) plus variable refresh rate disabled. What this means is that despite our initial review saying this feature was available, retail firmware has it disabled. LG CNS neglected to tell us this, despite our model supposedly being a retail sample in retail packaging. Chalk this down to another "communication issue" between reviewers and LG (see: previous issues with LG). The reasoning for the change is LG weren't happy with how this mode performed so disabled it. MBR is still available at fixed refresh rates, and of course variable refresh rates also still work, it's just that both features don't work together. We'll be updating the review as best we can to remove mention of this feature. We didn't think it worked that well - we recommended using MBR at a fixed refresh or not at all - so it doesn't affect the conclusion. But we will update the review to ensure it is accurate. UPDATE: In the original version of this review we described the "Faster" overdrive mode as "unusable" but that was an error. While the response data shown in the video is correct, we were also basing our assessment on an incorrect UFO Test image (not shown). The mode is in fact usable, but with some inverse ghosting visible - not "unusable" with significant inverse ghosting like we first thought. Overall this mode is not as good as the "Fast" mode, however the Faster mode is a lot better than what LG were offering previously in their 27GL850 so we don't feel "unusable" was appropriate wording to use. We've cut a few seconds out of the video as a result
why did your input lag measurements change on the mag274qrf-qd? You said it had a 7.0 input lag and here it says 9.3???
@@AMV25 Ok thanks!
Please talk about the 60hz Input lag too on monitors! It’s really important for console gamers. Sometimes input lag is good at high refresh rate but horrible at low refresh rates.
@@Zazoouu_Qc agree with you .. we should diversify the reviews by "developing" a section for consoles!
May I ask the calibrated ICC Profile you generated Tim? I needed that for my monitor.
Whats truly impressive here is how easily you pronounce each model code for every monitor.
its the 'stache
Using a monitor with all the info makes it easy, ofcourse. 😇
Its in hes genetics
Kingstache
I bet his SO really loves this abilities to produce such tongue wrapping words with ease, too
3:05 "crosshairs to help you cheat." Lmao Tim was so straightforward and to the point with that one 😂
TBF, if developers of a multiplayer game think they can make the game difficult by not giving players a crosshair, they must have been living under rocks for twenty years.
Are there any games where you aim and shoot without crosshair?
@@Gluosnis9 There are a lot of games where the crosshairs are either too loose or not there at all if you don't aim (especially true in third-person shooters). With crosshairs, you can fire accurately from the hip rather than aim-down-sight.
@@pfefferle74 To be fair, what gamer would ever activate crosshairs in a game that isn't supposed to have them? Have some selfrespect, picking easymode instantly every time as well? BUT of course we'll have to let that one time slide where we put a dot of duct tape on our CRT monitor at a LAN, that's only human to try as a young gamer lad when you wanted to lul your friends. But activating an on screen crosshair...
my anxiety went 📈
If anyone is finding the colours to saturated and doesn’t like the washed out srgb mode. Use gamer 1, leave everything at default then go into the six colour adjustment. Now lower all six of the colour saturations down to 39. Leave all the hue at 50. Then go back to the rgb and tweek those on a white screen to your preference. Mine are r49 g50 b47. Remember only go down from 50 never above.
You saved me!
Thanks you saved me, no more eye strain
Thank you! you saved my eyes.
I love you! ❤
My issue is that the reds are too strong/pink. Right now, I'm at sturation 39, red hue 60, rgb 41/45/45, and bumped brightness to 50. It's a bit better but still not ideal.
I just finished building my first PC I thought it will be hard but it was easy. The hardest part which I didn't expect is choosing the monitor.
actually though
Yeah almost have all my parts here but still haven't ordered a monitor. Everytime i think i found the one i find some negativ comments which make think otherwise it's so frustrating. With which monitor did you end up?
Yup, Welcome to the next lv PC builds, choosing monitor is most time consuming compared to other researches for me also.
@@Madelsamzocken don't need to overthink the monitor, if you're just starting pc gaming and just want to chill with it any IPS high refresh rate monitor like this one is good.
I'm with you on this one !
Me watching this on the 27GL850: Dang, I need this.

really? Which game are you running 180fps at 1440p and have you ever noticed your monitor to be "slow" ? You don't need this. GL850 is perfectly fine.

I'll be fine with my 27GL850 for at least another 5 years when GPU's become available again
@@jadedrivers6794 I haven't even began to fully use my 27gl83ab, hoped for a new gpu this year lol.
Saw this monitor and wanted to find some reviews. The thoroughness and information provided was so nice. With that said, the crosshair line alone has earned my sub.
I have a 27GL850, and it's brilliant. I have also upgraded to a 120hz 55" LG OLED as my main TV. I am turning into a big fan of theirs!
Great review! Adding this to my wishlist :D Finally the price is coming down for IPS 144h+ 1440p monitors.
Been waiting for this
Great review Tim. Very direct, clear and informative.
Thank you, very helpful. Pretty sure I'm going with this monitor.
My absolute favorite part of the review 3:05 "give you cross hairs to help you cheat" hahahahah and so nonchalant. I loved it and cracked me up.
It’s the feature hackers use to cheat and have no problems with game client /s
I'd really love to see y'all do a breakdown of anti-motion blur tech and overall settings. I hear Dyac is amazing, but I don't want to spend $500 to find out, and I'm playing with AMA settings on my 2540k and noticing how things like contrast, sharpness, and black equalizer make a noticeable difference. I know I'm not the only one that wants to know about this stuff, and with the rise of next gen consoles it would be great timing, especially considering how important anti-motion blur is for controller players.
Sick! My request came through! Love you guys.
Thank you Tim, for awesome review, just ordered 27GP850! Was thinking about MSI letterSoup-qd, but here in europe it's 130eur more expensive than LG for small improvements in some areas.
Eagerly awaiting the Review of the 32 inch version!
Hey guys, love your work and passion you put on reviewing each and every detail of the monitors and I'd like to say thank you for that, I was wondering if you have ever consider reviewing the LG 32GN650-B, I've seen a few reviews about this monitor but honestly not as detailed as you guys would so if you haven't and if possible could you see if it is a possibility to make a review or at least let me know if you would recommend it or not? Thank you in advance 👊

Best monitor reviews! I bought the HP x32 based on their review of the x27. Good info all the time!
This review is so good. Answers everything I needed to know. Thanks!

Hey Tim are you going to review the Asus ROG Swift PG32UQX soon? I enjoy your monitor reviews.
Excellent review, good job Tim! I'm really looking forwards to your take on the 32GP850 as that one's got my attention big time. Keep up the great work guys, much appreciated.

@@michaelwalsh9524 cool, grats. :) Would love to hear what you think about it once you're up and running.
@@michaelwalsh9524 what's your early impression of 32GP850?
Its outstanding. Although I need a 3080 to push it properly.
Minimum Brightness table comparison is very intersting. Thank you for this review.
Best gaming monitor review channel. Benchmarks across the market is KEY. The best thanks for the work and number crunching for consumers.
One thing I'd like to recommend for future monitor reviews is showing the power cable design, whether it's just a cable, there's a brick in the middle or a plug on the end. That could be a deciding factor for some people because the absolutely massive plug this thing has blocks the outlet above, 3 outlets below, and if rotated 90 degrees, blocks both outlets on either side. This means you have to use some type of extention for this thing in order to plug it in unless you just have a dedicated monitor outlet laying around somewhere, something I doubt no one has. If I knew this I would have went with a different monitor. They have the big round spot on the back of the monitor, so it's already not flat, why not just make that 20% bigger and put the power brick in the monitor? Side note, the manual came in a cd, like literally just don't include one at that point wtf?
Got me a 27GN950 before they sold out everywhere ... absolutely love it. Huge thumbs up to LG gaming monitors. Price vs performance is solid.
Bro that expensive🤯
@@danieldanieldanielUvu I paid retail on Amazon when it first came out... Got lucky. The prices now are insane.
@@garrettshirley3823 really!no wonder but that one beast monitor
Ur videos are really helpful keep it up man And thanks again for the great review ❤
Thanks for the awesome reviews.
Nice video, thanks for the info. I'd really like to see a comparison between the MAG274QRF-QD and its non QD version. Its supposed to be less over saturated (less SRGB coverage), but there are currently no reviews on it using your metrics, so it's hard to know how well it holds up against the QD version in other areas.
There are no less SRBG coverage. Only less rec.2020 coverage. useless test. U need 12bit colors
Still bugs me that most monitors don't have console compatibility for 2k 120Hz yet. While the PX277 Prime might fall short in many categories (particularly price) by comparison, it does indeed support 2k 120Hz even on my Xbox One X, which guarantees compatibility with Series S and Series X as well. As someone with a massive backlog of Xbox games built up from over a decade, along with Game Pass Ultimate, having proper console compatibility is a must for me. Now if I could only get a Series X..
Wow now that’s what you call a review! Thanks!
cant wait till the new monitor releases and your reviews for 1440p recommendations afterwards!!
I have LG 27GL850, early last year. Been 1 year using it, totally satisfied with the performance.

I picked up mine last year too, after seeing hardware unboxed recommend it. No regrets, fantastic monitor, and I discovered HU because of it!
It's hard to give up HDR tho once you've had it. Been playing on my tv forever and there's no monitor that can replace it unfortunately.
Just picked up the newly released 32GP83B-B and color me impressed, there is such an improvement over the (G-Sync) 32GK850G-B monitor it's replacing. I don't miss the VA panel yet, this nano ips panel is great, fast transitions, little to no smearing in fast transitions. Great addition to my 6900xt!

Thank you for this very informational review. I replaced my faulty ViewSonic VX2758-2KP-MHD , which I bought after watching your review a few years ago, with the LG 27GP850-B yesterday. I think for 300 euros it's a really good budget 1440P/180Hx panel. My settings so far: - Overclock On - Response Time - Fast - DFC - On - RGB - 49/50/47 - Six Color - All the Hues at 50 / All the Saturations at 39 - Gamer 1 Profile
where did you buy the monitor for 300 euros?

Just got this monitor delivered today. I need a few days to properly evaluate, but so far, its a beautiful display with not too much messing with settings.
Your monitor reviews are always excellent. You should test the PG32UQX next
You really need to test the Benq Zowie high end gaming line and compare them, as they are often touted as the high end for gamers. It would be interesting to see how the measurements match the hype.
I really wish other brands would catch up to zowie's DYAC tech. Failing that, I wouldnt mind seeing a 27" 1440p 240hz zowie monitor, I'd rather have IPS but if they ticked those other boxes I could probably justify going back to TN
Of course they updated and improved it, I just bought a 27GL850 a few months back. Not mad though, it is a great monitor. Mine is paired with a Red Devil 5700XT on water, and the gaming on it is very impressive.
Gl850 is still good! I have it too
Good stuff Tim. Thanks.
Love your reviews
Did you test the 27GL850 with the latest firmware? Would be interesting to know if that changed anything, mine has been updated 3-4 times since i got it just after release.
i got an LG27GL850 last year best monitor i ever had

No complaints with my 27GL850. Bought off HUB recommendation too.
It's good, and maybe best YOU ever had, but definitely not the best in that price range. Msi mag274qrf (or qrf-qd) and giga M27Q, etc are better (along with some from Asus and dell).
@@shinkimo Doesn't the M27Q have that BGR pixel arrangement though, which I've read can cause text to appear blurry?
@@cybisz2883 it only affects a very low percentage of people. I believe it has to do with certain color blindness. But there's also a fix of using cleartype if on windows. Best to check before buying, but most reviewers you see, aren't affected by it.
I’ve got the 27GL850 and it’s so good. Keep an eye out for any bargains when this releases.
My current monitor is a cheap 32" 2k 75hz workhorse, so I'm not interested in anything below a 34" 100hz+ UW I still watched this entire video anyways because your monitor reviews are just so good looking forward to the 32" review!

Really looking forward to review of the 32" version, it looks like the industry finally woke up, because the lack of high refresh rate IPS panels in that size frustrated me for a long time
if you mean the 32GP83B-B, I got one. sidegraded from a 34GN850. Thing has been glorious.

Good that you guys put up a review of this monitor since I am considering to buy it sometime when there's a sale for it. It seems to have all the features I need.
I had a GL850 and now have a GN950. LG monitors are awesome!
I'm interested to see the Zowie monitors compares to your other previous tested ones, your testing methodology is amazing.
Oh man, I was just about to pull the trigger on a GL850. I guess I'll wait for this.

Damn, this is the exact monitor I want. Flat, 27"/1440p/140Hz+, backlight strobing, sRGB clamp, top tier response times, and I dont need high contrast because I dont ever game in complete dark for my eyes. Hope the price in EU is also great. Edit 3 months later: Ordered it today!
You said it. Fingers crossed for pricing!
I don't know where does this nonsense comes from that contrast only matter in complete darkness. There is no scenario where it DOESN'T matter.
@@omarcomming722 yeah after watching the contrast on g7 I was amaze compare to poor contrast on ips

The MSI -QD model is also pretty neat for your needs
Can't wait for it's big brother 34gp950g review!
Yes, when is this going to hit retail?? I have been watching the 34GN850-B (out of stock) or 34GP83A-B (also out of stock) but am thinking I need to wait for the 34GP950g to be released. That HDR 600 certification on the new one might be worth the wait.

In your review of LG27gl 850 last year, the average gray-to-gray response time reported by you at faster overdrive setting was 4.08 ms.. But here you are saying it's 5.76 ms.. So what's changed in the last 1 year? Did you use a different 27gl850 for this test?

How? Did you have a stock checker? Did you buy direct from nvidia?
@@MrKWAMEFLIP through one of the many discords that I follow. It was bought through Best Buy restock.
yeah 1440 is the way to go so beautiful, also since u have 3080 go for a 1440p 240hz if you can afford it.
I worked on the older 27GL850 for a year and it is a pleasing display, although not the easiest one to calibrate perfectly. Temporarily I'm on an AOC 1080p 144hz 27G2 monitor and the stand is way better than even the new LG ones, as the base does not wobble at all and pivots. Also it's sRGB profile is spot on (except for the RGB balance) But damn, 1080p at 27" I always notice the pixels now when typing...
With the way monitors are headed I don't think I will be upgrading (LG GL83A-B) until mini LED becomes more affordable or OLED finds some way to reduce degradation significantly and comes in 27".

What's rly impressive is the price itself I don't recall of the prior years refresh had a price hike but getting an overall 10-15% better monitor for the same price a year later is a huge win for LG imo

Good review. Is there any plans for updated testing on 360hz monitors? Would like to see the CD numbers for them to see if there is much improvement over the 240hz monitors.
I keep seeing the G7 mentioned in reviews and recommendation videos on the channel but honestly I don't consider it to be best because of the 1000r curve. To me that makes it almost a niche product. When I was looking for a 1440p monitor I ended up going to rtings and getting the Asus ROG Strix XG27AQ based on that review. I think it should get a review on the channel here because it's an excellent monitor and also only 500 USD
What's annoying is that in the US, the Asus is only a little more expensive. While in Europe LG is $200 cheaper. Sad
I like VA panels but their not so good for games. Good move with and IPS panel, less contrast but much much better motion and adaptive sync.
“Crosshairs to help you cheat.” Lol the shade behind that comment was immaculate.

well done, ty!
Just got this monitor because I wanted a vendor-agnostic alternative to my old PG279Q (and the few extra Hz of refresh rate was also a minor plus). Damn, IPS has come a long way in 5 years. The PG279Q looks absolutely pale in comparison. The blacks are gray and most subtle yellows are just... white. The GP850's colors are much, MUCH deeper and more accurate. I'm using Tim's settings and ICC and it looks great. To the PG279Q's credit, I didn't notice much difference in motion performance vs. the GP850 in DOOM Eternal, for example, so the smoothness isn't noticeably superior, but honestly, the vibrancy of the colors alone make the GP850 a great purchase. And to me, great colors matter a lot more than a bit less blur.
Can you share color calibration for this monitor?
I got this monitor as everyone recommended it but i have terrible experience. When i'm 165FPS (gSync, response time to normal and vsync on in NV settings, in-game fps cap -3fps, connected with DP from the box) it's all good, but if i go down in frames it's like i'm on 60Hz. Tried different settings, updated drives, screen frimware up to date, overclock/no overclock, gsync on/off, responce time fast/normal/off. Nothing helps....
aws work my friend, big thanks

Grabbed a 27GN850 for 310€ on last year Amazon Prime Day. This thing is a beast and the price was jaw dropping!
What an amazing deal!! Congratulations sir
Got my 32GP850 yesterday. Amazing monitor. Cheaper(for SG) and apparently better than the 27" model (according to rtings) The fact that this monitor has one of the lowest power consumption and still perform incredibly well, is just amazing Just look the the G7, 2x the price and double the power consumption for that little unnoticeable performance
I got mine too. I love it so far
32GP850 definitely a great monitor. Only thing about the G7 that's immediately better is the contrast....but the colors on the LG are really damn good. Like you said it's cheaper also.
Just curious, how is it better than the 27" model? Is it the panel quality?
Why better than 27" ? the 32" has less brightness peak and no HDR certification. Check better what you red ;)
A good analysis, like all your videos. I have become a huge fan of his work. I am looking for a 2k monitor with a good price and I have found this model on Amazon, for less than 400 Euros. I am looking for a versatile monitor to connect an xbox series S (for now) but with a good color, because in a few months I plan to get a PC and the monitor will have to be used for illustration and design/video editing/etc. Would this model, well calibrated, be a good option? I would use it for a while, until I could get hold of a superior, heavier model for illustration. Since I'm looking at quality-price 2k panels, I don't want to give up a minimum of Hz. And as I mentioned, there are very good offers on the Lg gp850B. Thank you very much in advance for your response!

Can confirm, this is an awesome monitor, I've had it for a few days, love it but the fastest mode IS unusable at 180hz on 1440p resolution, reverse ghosting very notorious, even so, you won't be disappointed, colors are awesome, butter smooth performance.
Were you able to use 180hz and mbr at the same time? I have the same monitor but I can't do both.
@@thaflybear nope, the mbr option is greyed out when 180 (overclocked).
Do you still love it ?
@@Evan-ey5ck yes, no complaints! It is now my second monitor cuz I got a 4K 32” (m32u) which for me is now the sweet spot, but if u play at 1440 res, sweet spot is 27” and this LG monitor has it all!
@@campingdoesntpay5235 thanks for the help bro
Hey Guys, First of all thanks for the great Work. Your Videos about Hardware especially about Monitors is great. I wouldnt buy a Monitor without a review from you. Ist there any Chance you review the Dell G2724D any time soon? A comparison of this and the LG 27GP850-B is the Last Thing i'm waiting for before my buying decision. The MSI MAG 274QPF-QD costs 150€ more than These both and isnt a Option for me. Thanks in advance and keep Up the great Work!
Any plans on doing a review on Lenovo G27-20 or their new line-up as a whole?
Here after the expose

Man the G7 still surprises me to this day. Such a good monitor.
It's a good monitor, but has issues. I had 3 of them and returned them. First strange noise, hot display screen and losing signal. Second hot display screen, losing signal and stutter. Third the 2021 model Flicker and hot display with 1010 firmware. It's good but to many flaws for that price
@@Memo__51 I guess I'm lucky I have never experienced any problems with it
@@DeAtHvAnGeLyou lucky... I really wanted the Samsung odyssey g7, the curve is amazing., but now iam finished... Getting today the lg 32GP850... Enjoy your Samsung odyssey g7 it's the best VA Monitor out there.
@@Memo__51 Hope you enjoy your LG they also make fantastic monitors!
@@Memo__51 hey im having the same issues. Im looking for new monitor, how is the LG?
Nice review, i love myself a good sRGB mode. Franklky speaking i hate how gaming monitors look. I do love variable refreshrate which is the coolest invention für pc gaming in the last 10 years togehter with the SSD. It eleminates screen tearing once and for all. The gaming presets on my ASUS look terrible.. but i like that sRGB mode.. you can play all content on it. I think a new market might be gamers that prefer accurate color for all content, or even do Video Editing, but still love the gaming features..
Great stuff. Not as much of an upgrade over my GL83a as I would really like, but I'm sure anyone in the market for a new monitor would be pleased.
