call me crazy but I had a feeling this was going to be a challenge for la Cruz by the way he touched gloves. He probably seen Castillo fight before or actually sparred Castillo himself.

He’s fought Castillo before (back in 2021) and won much more comfortably. Part of why he struggled here is due to the fact that La Cruz’s reflexes and athleticism have continued to wane over the last two years, which is why we’re seeing him increasingly come forward and step to opponents in recent bouts.

Round 1: Good posturing and guard by Castillo, unloaded good left underhooks, and also solid jabs, but he got made to miss and also eat rights to do so. But his punches had the better look to them. 3-2 is decent split on that round, although I went with Castillo. Lead hand mostly rendered to control on the tropes from La Cruz, possibly not wanting to be countered, and weakened by the stance of Castillo. Round 2: first telling blow is a right to the body, a good weapon against southpaws, La Cruz utilized pawing jab to neutralize Castillo’s jab. Castillo attempts hooks, but received a pull counter. Castillo breaks rhythm for a quick salvo! But only about one punch truly broke guard at 2:34 mark. Has Castillo been this solid defensively before? re positioning, bending at the waist. Good from him! La Cruz using the low high guard ( if that makes sense) and pressuring Castillo into mistakes like in the previous round.

Castillo got robbed here, he won clearly rounds 1 and 3. La Cruz couldn't get the timing on his left hand.

You have to be kidding?? A close fight does not mean there is not a clear winner. If a boxer wins 2 rounds to 1, it does not necessarily mean the bout is close if the boxer won those two rounds clearly. In this case, there's absolutely no doubt in my mind Castillo won the first round, both in terms of blows landed, their quality, and ring control. Yet what did he get in scoring? 3-2. That's when I know after a close second round they were giving that one to La Cruz. A 5-0 for that one pretty much closed the door for Castillo as the judges can just float around the 3rd to make it seem less blatant of a robbery. La Cruz did not move well nor counter well at all in the 3rd, and he got caught clean multiple times in the first 30 seconds, and only initiate the clinch during the last minute. That's more of a hang on type of round for him, and I do not believe a boxer deserves the round just by hanging on to it. Hell, one can give Castillo all 3 rounds and that would not be controversial.

This bout and your logic reminds me of Loma-Haney fight where people gave Haney's rounds as "Loma didnt do enough" like what? Then what did Haney do? He could not even land a meaningful blow to the head, react badly to feints, and his inferior movements is what let him catch a bunch of punches in the head in the later rounds, something he could not dk to Loma despite did brilliantly so against Kambosos. If one just looks at the ring control criterion, Haney lost it on every round. So one guy lost 1 out of 3 scoring criteria on every round, landed less punches in terms of quantity and quality, got a UD, one of which is 8-4, simply by hanging on.
