  • 88 K100. My favorite truck ever. First truck I ever owned. Retired now but I'm looking for a nice one to get and keep till my time is done.

  • K100 was my favorite truck as a kid. I had one as a toy and it looked so much cooler than anything that rolled around here in Germany at that time. And honestly, it still looks cooler than anything that rolls around here today.

  • I piloted a K100e in New Zealand for a couple of years towing a b-train clocking about 750kms per shift. It arrived in the country in bits, was fully rebuilt and had an aerodine added in the sleeper. A good truck to drive.

  • I think it was 73/74 I was a commando (French term) If someone put the wrong parts into a build I followed the build down the assembly line and made it right. I left there and went to Vancouver BC . I was offered a job at the KW plant but never did start. In 76 I took a job with S&M Kenworth in Calgary Alberta. Finished my apprenticeship and received my red seal HD license. Spent 25 years otr trucking as an owner operator with my own rights for North America. KW builds the BEST trucks.

  • You should make a similar video showing the history of the T800. Perhaps it is not the most popular KW truck in the US but down here in Mexico was definitely an icon, a legend. Manufactured for over 30 years and just last year the final unit rolled out from Kenworth's Mexicali assembly plant. First truck to introduce a full aerodynamic cabin design using PC tools. The mighty T800 needs a video as well. Hope you consider it for near future. Regards!!!

  • Chiropractor's best friend... And as a Aussie. It's not the popularity, it was the greedy companies wanting bigger trailer's and shorter trucks. Resulting in less driver comfort. Regarding the success of the K series. Talking with a DOT officer a few years ago. They wanted to Ban the Cabover, due to safety concerns. Climbing up the side of the cab. But big business wasn't having that either... Oh, try doing Two-up in one. Woke up in mid-flight one day. Then was slammed against the bunk wall. All you could do is laugh and try to get back to sleep.

    • I can see how in Australia the k100 would be a back breaker but in highway application in the US my 1996 k100e rides better than most conventional trucks I’ve driven of coarse it’s all air ride cab and suspension now I just sold my 1981 peterbilt 362 it was solid cab mounted spring ride suspension and no power steering from the factory and had a wheelbase of 160inches it was a true back breaker no doubt gave you a arm workout

    • Drivers killed the cabover here in the states. We got fat and lazy and didn't want to constantly climb the side of the trucks to enter. The ease of maintenance and ingress/egress into the cab was also why we stopped buying the cabovers.

    @dontwanta@dontwanta3 ай бұрын
    • You're right, it does sound like a challenge! But with modern engineering, even 'brick walls' on wheels can be surprisingly aerodynamic. It's all about redirecting and minimizing air resistance. The science behind it is quite fascinating!

  • Interesting topic but I think this video missed a golden opportunity to go into more details as to why this legendary cab over was killed by U.S. Government regulators. What were the driving forces behind it and why was Australia for example, able to ignore those kinds of concerns? The cab over design seems to be so much better at least for short haul intercity trucking where space is more premium. This also seems to be the way most trucks are built in Europe...

The K300 being a modified Volkswagen Transporter and the K500 being a modified DAF XF are a testiment to that. Any European truck company (Scania, Volvo, DAF, etc) would make Kenworth look like the manufacturer of Flintstones era trucks and nothing more.
