This is a straight-eyed Damascus steel tomahawk, with a spalting cherry handle.
This was the first Axe I ever tried, and took me a number of failed attempts until I got the handle just right. It's a gift for my Sister-in-law who works as a park ranger, and should help with some light de-branching or with relieving her bowsaw on big cuts.
She gets me a lot of the wood I work with from trees that are taken down in her nature reserve, so this is a thank-you!

  • A tomahawk is supposed to be able to be taken apart. Fixing it to the handle is inappropriate for a tomahawk

  • Awesome video! Just so you know though that isn’t a tomahawk. Tomahawks use a reverse tapered handle and are held together via a friction fit between the eye of the head and the handle. They also don’t have a usable poll, or hammer section of the head. As such they can be disassembled for easy packing. Because this piece has a poll, a normal taper, a wedge, and a permanent fit it is technically a hatchet.

  • The head is made of Damascus steel. It gets that "water ripple" look from the hundreds of layers of steel.

  • Beautiful tool, but not technically a tomahawk. It has a poll, pommel swell and wedge. All three very distinct features that are not a part of a tomahawk.
