The Book of Boba Fett was supposed to be a major moment in Star Wars history. The famous Mandalorian bounty hunter was not only appearing again on screen, but in a starring role for the very first time! Unfortunately, as Kathleen Kennedy's Lucasfilm once again dropped the ball, leaving fans with a mediocre series completely lacking in the excitement and action one would expect from this legendary clone warrior.
So what exactly went wrong? Vito is here to break it down.

  • I’d like to add that Grogu and Mando being in this show makes the season two finale for Mando feel, pointless. I mean I was expecting Grogu to go back to Din at some point but not THAT fast and I think the biggest clue to what kind of badass Boba Fett is in the Original Trilogy is the fact that he's the ONLY person we see in the whole trilogy who argues with Darth Vader - even getting right up in his face at one point in ESB - and DOESN'T get choked out. That alone speaks volumes.

    • Season 2 as a whole damaged the finale... Instead of a lengthy quest where we see these characters grow organically together, we just get the most expedient escort mission possible to back-door pilot a bunch of Clone Wars characters. That finale didn't feel earned. It felt like they were getting it out of the way so they could focus on part three of "the Filoni Trilogy" or whatever. But now they threw Mando and Baby Yoda back together, but WITH NO STORY. The story WAS the quest. Now the quest is over.

    • Imagine being you. Literally thriving off of negativity. It’s a pathetic existence. Why do you care SO much about fucking entertainment media? It’s all fucking fiction my dude, it’s all made up. Every single thing from the beginning was basically thrown together anyway. Lucas never had an overarching plan. He didn’t even expect episode 4 to do well! He made things up as he went after that. The only reason you hate the Disney stuff is because you have these weird expectations or ideas that you can’t seem to let go because of your childhood nostalgia. Every single Star Wars media has issues. Every single one. I recently introduced my gf to Star Wars and it was her first time seeing it all. She loves the entire story, each trilogy and the individual series. And we find it hilarious how people like to try to not pick Disney when George didn’t even know what he wanted to do. I mean you can’t possibly forget how people said exactly what you’re saying about the prequels or even during the releases of Episodes 5 and 6. Star Wars fans have literally been crying about it since day 1. And you know what? It still thrives. Because all the butt hurt nostalgia-tards like yourself either die or move on to actually important things in life by growing up. Then the next mantle of fans consume the media and thoroughly enjoy it because they don’t have those freaky predisposed expectations. You should also probably spend your time doing something productive and that you enjoy, rather than watching a 30 minute long video explaining how to hate more, then making a comment literally hyping yourself up for more negativity. Why don’t you go partake in something you enjoy? Why waste the time going out of your way to cry about something you don’t like? It’s pathetic and childish. Almost as pathetic and childish as the person who wasted hours of their time to make a hate video.

    • @@TheSCPStudio doesn't matter what it is, be it star wars, politics, videogames, car designs, or shoes, when there's a demonstrable decline in quality then that's worth the critique of it. someday when you're older you'll understand it better. in this case, you're confusing hate for star wars with pain that comes from disappointment when the thing you love betrays you. but, for those of us who know about story and characters, we rebuke your, well, don't take it the wrong way, your bullshit. we're okay with you and your g/f enjoying it -- i say if you enjoy something this bad it's either on a guilty pleasure level or you're unsophisticated and easily amused probably more to do with being young than anything... and that's not a sin. you say it's pathetic, i say it's better than being entertained by bright shiny objects. most of us simply aren't the ignorance is bliss type. this trash is objectively bad storytelling and characterization. that's important when it's being held up as the current standard. media shapes our minds, even this stuff. it really is one of those 'garbage in/garbage out' deals, when the 'in' is bad product and the 'out' is something you base much of your philosophy on, not just a pleasant diversion you spend time and money on, wasting time until you die an ignoble death and are rightfully forgotten. these videos serve a purpose. imagine a world without critique, *that* would be the true tragedy. beyond that, it puts a sharper focus on what could be vague feelings of knowing something is terrible amiss, but you can't put your finger on it. these help you become a better critic so that you *don't* keep ingesting bullshit and lessening the quality of your life in the process. this is stupidly important stuff, and if anyone disagrees i would encourage them to do a little research into psychology for better answers. it's also fun when you find an entertaining personality with good editing skills and makes some funny jokes and observations. some of it is absolutely nostalgia based. so? i don't understand that argument at all, i always figure anyone who says that hasn't had *their* nostalgia attacked. i also find it hypocritical. give it time, give it time. a person without enough heart to love something to someday elicit nostalgia is what i find pathetic, not to mention probably a red flag as that strikes me as being somewhat sociopathic. but, like i say, to each their own.

  • The best part, the Slave-1 ship (in Legends/EU) was named that by Jango Fett because he had grown up a slave before coming a foundling - it was an ironic name for his ship. In the mind of Jango, the life of a bountyhunter was liberating, he could take any contract he wanted, worked by his own rules, etc. Where Boba Fett feels this way for all of his appearances in Lucases Cannon, I do think the Book of Boba Fett explores something interesting in showing a character shift in Boba, having his view evolve after being betrayed into believing the life of a Bounty Hunter was akin to servitude. This could have been really interesting since neither view is completely true or false. It is too bad the show rushed this entire portion of character growth into flashback scenes and a lizard. Also yes, I am sure it is also called Slave-1 for other "worse" reasons - but slavery is a pretty big theme in Star Wars. Scrubbing it from one place, something as small as the name of a ship, is ineffective in removing any references to slavery. Anakin is literally a slave in episode 1, there is no getting around Star Wars themes of slavery. Part of Anakin's arc in the prequels is how he starts as a slave, becomes free as a Jedi only to grow to think the Jedi are using him, then is ultimately is reenslaved by Sidious. Kids who are old enough to watch Star Wars are probably old enough to have learned about slavery from a teacher or their parents. Even if they aren't, do we really want to live in a society where we shield kids from the truth / themes of hard to swallow topics? Just my thoughts, great video!

  • My problems with the Book Of Boba Fett honestly stem from one scene in the Mandalorian, actually. Bo-Katan gets all "high and mighty" and starts acting like somehow Boba is less of a Mandalorian than she is simply because he's a clone. Then one of her companions straight up physically overpowers him and tosses Boba around. Weird, she didn't seem to mind the Clones when they helped her retake Mandalore. She doesn't have much to say about being a "real" Mandalorian, considering her pacifist sister is half of the reason that Mandalore is in this mess, and the other half is Death Watch's for becoming servants of Maul, which she was a member of. She also clearly doesn't understand their culture, since any of those Clones could be a Mandalorian if they went through the same trials as a Foundling, and they stand a way better shot of passing than literally anyone else. Nor was she a very good leader, considering she had the backing of the united Mandalorian clans AND the Rebel Alliance, and still she somehow managed to lose Mandalore to the Empire. Again. Boba should've thrown her friend to the ground and quickfired into her head for being stupid enough to try and square off against Boba fucking Fett without a blasterproof helmet on. That's what you get when you don't treat arguably the Galaxy's greatest bounty hunter as a legitimate threat. After what Bo-Katan said and the shitty "I've heard your voice so much before" zinger, I want Boba to use his criminal empire to figure out how to solve the clone accelerated aging, have the mystery cure half their age, and then start training them as his own "True Mandalorians", just like Jaster Mereel did before him. If Boba wants to rule through respect, having his own cadre of Clone enforcers to work protection on shipments, diplomatic missions, and controlled areas is the perfect way to do that. In that way, the former criminal empire that he takes over becomes more of a private security force or a private military company. They demand pay from the people of Tatooine, but they also eliminate any threat to the people. They charge a premium for their services, but they will make sure that you and your possessions are safe. Imagine Mos Espa or Freetown or Mos Eisley being patrolled by a litany of Clones in Mandalorian armor, instantly eliminating any threat to the town. It would be like Boba being everywhere at once, because they all have the same voice. To the common people, they wouldn't really be able to tell the difference between Boba and the other Clones, so it would be like Boba Fett was standing guard on every corner. Every person who tried to screw with them would have to ask "Is that really Boba, or just one of the Clones?", making them definitely think more than twice about trying to attack him, and then realizing it doesn't make much of a difference when their attack is met with a blaster bolt between the eyes. They'd be perfect body guards and enforcers for him, it would absolutely be in line with his character, and it would be a great way to send a message to Bo-Katan and the rest of the criminal underworld.

  • They should've added three more episodes to make the season an even 10 episodes, and base those 3 episodes on Boba Fett having flashbacks to his bounty hunter past, and we see him taking ruthless jobs for the Empire. That way, when Cad Bane accuses Fett of being a murderous bastard who worked for the Empire, we'd actually remember him doing horrible things for the Empire outside of helping Vader track Han Solo. That's not horrible, that's just being a professional. Horrible would be Fett torturing and slowly incinerating a rebel captain for info. Or Fett going after a criminal wanted by the Hutts and blowing him up into giblets with a rocket to his mouth. Or Fett trapping a Jedi Padawan into a situation where the Jedi gets disintegrated painfully, his last words being cries of mercy or calling to his master for help, while Fett looks at him with a cold stare full of disdain and hatred for the people who took his dad away from him.

Or at least fanfiction quality, has a massive budget, but is really really bad. Everything(save Rogue One mostly, and much of The Mandalorian) is poorly cobbled together screenplays that are the writers' version of Star Wars. Not Star Wars with their flavor, not quite Star Wars seen through their eyes, but _their version_ of Star Wars. Star Wars has quite a life of its own, not to mention a fair bit that had already been established. The established stuff wasn't always the best, but it wasn't bad for things at the time. But now that it's in the hands of Disney, they feel they need to NOW write Star Wars how they think it should be. **Edited to say "really bad fanfiction"

  • Darth Maul made a better godfather than Boba Fett. He gathered allies, defeated other crime families, and assembled a galactic underworld's worth of allies and minions for him to use. And just like with the Godfather, the life of crime ruined Darth Maul, because he literally attracted the feds' attention (Chancellor Palpatine/Darth Sidious of all people) and he got crushed like a bug. Boba Fett seemed more like a friendly neighborhood town sheriff than a crime lord.

  • I was the biggest fan of star wars. Played all the games. Still stuck to watching the prequels even after the first 2 movies were weak as water. I gave up after not being able to finish watching Mando, never rewatched the sequels, never watched any of the cookie cutter baby series. I am dumbfounded and awestruck at how bad Disney's media has been and how it still manages to sink to new lows. It's amazing to me how nobody involved can say in a board meeting "hey what if the villains were competent", or "hey what if there's an actual moral dilemma that can teach life lessons"

  • 2:52 3:19 Basically, Boba Fett is every video game player who takes pleasure in making the enemy die painful, horrifying deaths. The kind that would shotgun a man in the face, then proceed to turn the guy's body into giblets with more shotgun blasts. By the way, disintegration weapons in Star Wars are very powerful and painful. They turn you back into your constituent molecules painfully while bypassing any shields you might have. So Vader telling Fett not to disintegrate Han's crew wasn't just him telling the guy to reign it in a bit, but he's also telling the guy to not use weapons that are literally war crime levels of bad. If Darth Vader orders a whole village to be terminated, his men would just laser/machine gun the populace. If Boba Fett does it, he'd probably burn them all alive with his flamethrower. The difference between the two men is that Vader doesn't take extra delight in making the enemy suffer before they die. Fett does. Vader is content to slice up, gun down, or strangle his enemies. Fett would disintegrate his foes, burn them alive, or blow them into giblets with rockets and grenades. That is how sadistic and cruel the old Boba Fett was in the old lore. Fett's brutality rivals that of Darth Vader, and his sadism exceeds Vader's by a country mile.

  • The first mistake was to make the series, to save him from his accepted death, by pretending that he was too cool to have died. He was ruthless and feared, until he came across Luke at the peak of his powers in Return Of The Jedi. It served a purpose from a narrative point of view: show how awesome Luke had become since the Empire Strike Back, and show how the threat from the monster was very real, and increase the stakes from the critical situation that the heroes were facing. His time had come.

  • We had a taste of the real Bob Fett in Season 2 of the Mandalorian, where he ruthlessly took out those Stormtroopers and gave Mando an ultimatum to negotiate for the return of his armor. There are so many directly the show could have taken. If I was in charge, I would have never turned Boba into a leader of Jabba's Crime Syndicate. That was a bizarre decision and it just didn't make sense with his character. In the show he gave that stupid line about "working under idiots" but we've yet to see that. Both Jabba and Vader treated Fett with immense respect, and neither got him into that Sarlac pit. I would have probably had Fett go on a ruthless killing spree in a revenge plot against Han Solo. Sure you could have the Tusken Raiders adopt Boba into their culture, but Tusken Raiders are supposed to be a harsh, ruthless people. "The Jungland Wastes are not to be traveled lightly." Show us the truth behind those words, and have Boba prove himself worthy to be respected as a warrior. Not whatever we got... Don't waste time with the flashbacks, and do isolate the show on Tatooine. Give Boba a concrete goal (like seeking revenge against Han Solo), and stick to it.

  • Loved your treatment of the story. One thing I would change is at around the mid-way point after Boba Fett had become a better person and leader (maybe because of a new love interest, a local small businesswoman who’s not afraid of Fett and teaches him how to be diplomatic 😉), the Pike Syndicate comes to Tatooine and tries convincing him to hand over the system to them but he refuses. This causes the representative to give him an ultimatum: We’ll be back in a month with an army. If your answer doesn't change by then, you and this town will be wiped off the surface of Tatooine. Now, he has to go and convince the bounty hunters and mercenaries he worked with to help him defend Mos Espa. Particularly, a lot of the fan favorites like Bossk, Dengar, IG-88, etc. Most of them refuse, though, as he isn't paying them enough to justify putting their lives on the line. This will also bring the attention of Cad Bane, who thought the legendary Boba Fett was dead and gets hired by the Pikes just to get a chance to prove who’s the best bounty hunter in the galaxy. The events transpire similarly to the show but when Boba Fett, Mando, and the last of his rag-tag militia look as though they are about to bite it, the giant war droid is blasted to bits as a bunch of ships fly over the city and landing just outside the city which kicks up a bunch of dust. Out of that dust come a literal army of mercs and bounty hunters, most of which were the ones who refused to help him earlier. They then proceed to all run in and wipe out the Pikes from behind. Then it just proceeds to the fight between Boba and Cad you pointed out.
