  • Thanks for taking the time to show us how to wrap the weight you used to hold the veneer down so we could see how you held it down so you could show it to us. Really helpful step. It was so helpful that I had to take the time to type this comment. You're the man, Jon.

  • Great video, Jon, as always! I was wondering if you could fill us in on your work table: size, surface, design, casters, etc. I searched your channel but couldn't find any video on this. Thank you for all your work!

  • After your video, I assumed that you will roll and store back in the box? Then flatten the same way when you start your project? Thanks for sharing.

  • That is very beautiful material Jon. I think I shall have to research how veneers are manufactured, I think it would be very interesting to see. I never realised that it came in 8x4?? (I stand to be corrected about the size) That is the first time I have seen veneer in those sizes. Regards. N.

  • to push the veneer down hard onto the parent surface, get a block of wood with a round over on one edge (same size as a sanding block) of around a 1/4 to 3/8 of an inch to (just as a guide). Then remove your middle stick and push the rounded over edge hard along the surface from the middle towards the next stick, remove that stick and then repeat the process alternating from left to right until your at the edge. This will ensure a firm positive contact and remove any bubbles that might be left behind.

  • This stuff is not cheap! I think a good starting point for anyone looking to get into veneering would be getting a sample pack, and testing stains, and finishes, oils, and everything just to get a good idea of the product. Then work your way up to bigger and more expensive sheets as your technique improves.

  • You could also unroll it upside down to flatten it out. This way you won't spend time covering your weights to protect the veneer finish because you'll be placing them onto the back side. Plus it won't keep trying to roll itself back up while you are trying to spread it out.

  • I would have used a J roller too, Jon. I didn't realize there is a big difference between veneer and formica for example.

    @stevecollins9450@stevecollins94509 жыл бұрын
    • Steve Collins Hi Sean, Jon did a great job explaining about the J Roller. It is a very common mistake. It works well for Formica, but veneer needs a lot of pressure and the J roller doesn't give you enough pounds per inch pressure.

      @OakwoodVeneer@OakwoodVeneer9 жыл бұрын
    • Oakwood Veneer Yes I understood what Jon said about the J roller not being the tool to use with this product. My point was that before watching this video I would not have known that something other than a J roller was needed.

  • You should think about using different glue than contact cement now that your moving into real wood veneer. I worked in a woodshop for years and did a variety of melamine, Formica and veneer and we did use contact cement on some projects. But for veneer It isn't as permanent as using glues made for veneer or carpenters glue.

  • So my question is can you stain it?

    @lostlakepictures7378@lostlakepictures7378Ай бұрын
    • Yes, the one thing I would avoid is using a waterborne stain or a waterborne finish. The water can expand the veneer and create ripples… Better off, using a solvent-based finish like oil based varnish or solvent-based lacquer. I have a few more veneer videos on my channel that I think will be helpful… Thanks for watching .

  • If that's a backed veneer you can roll it just fine the backing gives it support. I believe its the non backed stuff they say not to roll it. Although if you are careful you can get away with it! LOL

  • Shocking waste of tape! Why not just set the weight on the bubble wrap and not use tape? Aren't you going to take the weight out again, so like yeah wasted a bunch of tape that ends up in landfill.
