  • I went crazy over this movie when I was a boy, 7 years old in 1961. My dad took me down to the MEMROSE THEATRE in Norfolk, Va. where it was playing for months. The first time was a Friday night and the line to get tickets was all the way down Colley Ave. on the sidewalk and it turned the corner and went all the way down Raleigh Ave. As a boy, I had never seen anything like that. It was so exciting I could hardly stand it! Those were the days when movie going was something you could hardly wait for! I still watch this several times a year and I have the original movie poster from MGM 1961. It's wonderful! "LIKE NOTHING YOU'VE EVER SEEN BEFORE"! on the top of the poster!

  • My mother had a profound appreciation for classic monster movies, particularly the original King Kong and this film which she cherished deeply. It's been approximately 55 years, yet the memories remain vivid in my mind. One scene that always stirs deep emotions in me is when Gorgo momma, a towering creature, places her foot upon the enclosure's edge, enabling her offspring to escape to freedom. This moment, so powerfully depicted, never fails to evoke a sense of poignant nostalgia in me. Additionally, I must acknowledge the exceptional soundtrack of the film, a sentiment echoed by many others. Its a compelling composition that greatly enhances the entire movie's impact, and I wholeheartedly concur with those who praise its heartwarming quality.

  • Watched this last year for the first time since the 70's, and it was a pleasant surprise. It's not dated very much and it's a decent film for what it is. It works because it sticks to the original Godzilla formula of man v nature and the latter being too strong for the formula. It doesn't have too many supporting characters like some kaijus. There's no comic relief. The model work is good and it's quite harrowing at points. It's really good for what it is. Also much better than the likes of Repticilus or Yongary.

  • A great classic monster movie. I loved the theme---that the monster was just a mother regaining the infant that the humans had stolen. And the warning at the end----that man should be wary of boasting that he is lord of creation----seemed very appropriate. Of course, you have to suspend your disbelief to enjoy the story. Even as a kid I realized that the first thing the authorities would have done would have been to grab the baby monster and put it in the path of the rampaging mother. WAY better than letting her stomp half of London flat trying to find her baby. But that was part of the message about watching our hubris. Still, a great old fashioned monster movie.

The creature is a bit more cheesy than Godzilla (1954) but it's still well worth watching. The British are much more subtle with the destruction of London, it's not in flames like Tokyo after Godzilla got finished.

  • Pretty good for a Saturday afternoon kids matinée movie back in 1961. I would have loved it if I were a kid (while getting sick to death stuffing myself with milk duds, over salted popcorn and good and plenty candy) The two gentlemen who caused it all certainly have some explaining to do after half of London got blitzed, all because they wanted to make a quick buck!
