I discovered this game about 4 years ago. I was 67. I'd never played a video game in my life. It is now my sanctuary. And the musical score is medicine for the soul.

One doesn't stop playing Skyrim. One merely pauses.
Fact. I'm currently playing it after 11 years. And I will in the future too probably and with Starfield too

Sooo true. I was there when ff7 launched on ps1, played the hell out of Halo, red dead two was an insane experience. But man. Skyrim is home. Wandering the tundra, soundtrack kicks in. Goosebumps. Amazing game.
Jeremy Soule does not get enough credit for this amazing score.
Take heart that this only seems so. Actually Soule won several awards for his work with Skyrim, both in terms of computer game soundtrack, but also as general pieces of modern classical music.
Yeah, he was a good composer, I wonder who’s gonna replace him TES 6
Skyrim is not the "Do Vah Kin entrance song", the true soul of elder scrolls lies in the song "Ancient Stones"
@@rispruffcuts2306 I prefer Wing Guide You.
It's not coincidence that he is not mentioned anywhere in this video or its description. That doesn't take away from the value of his music, but people don't talk about him nowadays for a reason.
I couldn't understand English when I first started playing in 2011, but I created my character anyways. Aragon the ginger (tried to write Aragorn but I didn't know how to pronounce his name too), Nord, sword and shield. I played on my father's laptop, and for fear of breaking the right mouse button, I adopted a stronger weapon that I thought would carry me without blocking through the game, a warhammer.. I also didn't know we have to press and hold left mouse button to fully charge an arrow to fire it properly. Saw in some random walkthrough a guy speaking these words: "infinite gold" and "Mount Anthor". Then I went to Mount Anthor to find the gold, found one of my firsts memorable dragon battles, I couldn't fire arrows properly, so we fought through the whole Sunday night. Sleepless, some hours to an exam, and didn't found the gold. But I had such a glow of excitement in my eyes that since that day, all my school friends knew about this amazing experience that is Skyrim. With the passing of the months, this game quickly became my favorite English teacher. Making me genuinely interested in the language, so I could understand the dialogs, books, and quests. Year after year, more and more I could understand this language. So many positive things happened in my life because of it, that is difficult to express in words the appreciation I feel for that. Thank you, Skyrim : ) And for those who stopped by to hear this stranger's confession: Wind Guide You : )
We're all brothers and sisters in this comment section friend. Thank you for sharing your story, excellent writing too might I add.
What a great story man. This game means so much to so many. I can also remember that launch date like it was yesterday. That first day in the open field, with mountains around was just overwhelming, and dare I say, emotional.
🤍❤️💚
I remember that time when I first played this game i was stuck at bleak falls barrow's code door.. I stood there trying to figure out how to open the door for 2 days...then I saw the pattern on key...then I remember is that I was shouting in my room and throwing my schoolbag through the window and getting my ass whooped by my mom.....ah the glorious days
Your writing and storytelling is excellent!
The Dragonborn music hits places no other song does. Whether it’s nostalgia, the fantastic composing, or just the plain power of the piece, it’s a wonderful piece of gaming history.
I must disagree, Secunda (which sadly wasn't played) hits more. When I hear it, anytime, anywhere, I almost start to cry. I still remember the moment when I first - at night - came out outside from the Dragon Hall (sorry if the name is wrong, I played different language version) in Whiterun and Secunda was playing and the green aurora was shining on the sky. THAT was the defining Skyrim moment for me. Until then, it was just one from the list of the great RPGs and sequel to Oblivion. But this moment changed it to something more.
@@dasik84 Well said my friend. I felt the same.
Far Horizons got my cry this time.
But Streets Of Whiterun would have, if it wasn’t talked over…
It's unfortunate in this version the choir wasn't louder. At the start the brass kinda overpowers the voices which takes away from the live performance a bit

The Streets of Whiterun is absolutely incredible.
It's my first time hearing it with a "live" orchestra. I'm a grown man getting goosebumps and tearing up. I would love to hear this live in person one day.
yeah its my fav
Skyrim may not have the best game mechanics. It may not have the biggest map, the best storytelling, the best quest design or the best graphics. But Skyrim, unlike any other video game world I've ever experienced, always felt like a real place to me, with it's very own heart and soul. I've never felt such a deep connection to a game ever again and it will always be a part of me. Listening to Far Horizons, The Streets of Whiterun or From Past to Present always makes me emotional. It feels like home to me.
The immersion for most of the game is absolutely insane. Every veteran Skyrim player should try never using fast travel no matter how many times they've traversed this land.
@@apolloisnotashirt I'm currently doing a no fast travel run with a slightly modded survival mode, and even as a veteran player, I've discovered so many new and cool things and places I've never seen before. Survival mode can sometimes be a little annoying, but it forces you to plan your trip, stay in taverns for the night, buy/steal/hunt/cook food etc., which makes the game even more immersive. I absolutely love it.
@@dayjay2667 I tried survival once but the moment it made my carry weight into half I immediately turned it off.

Jeremy Soule is a legend
It’s like a brain hack
What is most fasinating to me about the human design : They CREATE - music, art, invention, fully NEW information that never existed before in the Cosmos. Where is the source of imagination ? In a deterministic universe ~ Imagination should not exist, no new information created from nothing ?
At some point wanted different music so i added a (good) music mod but secretly wishing that OST tracks coming up😎
From Past to Present to me ... IS Skyrim. Such an amazing and calming masterpiece.
Far Horizons is pretty nostalgic as well
Ancient Stones as well, its a shame they didn't perform that one
It’s my favorite song from this amazing game.
When Streets of Whiterun started, I realized id completely forgotten how it goes. I wasnt even sure id recognize it. But when i did recognize it the tears started flowing. Whiterun is like home away from home for me, even after all these years.
My sister gifted this game to me in 2011, five years before she died. I always have it with me, either in physical format or through the entire soundtrack downloaded on my phone. I have climbed a small mountain and meditated to this music. It continues to touch me and to guide me through life. My sister is alive through Skyrim. 😍
She's in Sovngarde now brother.... may she rest in peace.
I'm so sorry... I hope she rests easy and I wish you and your folks the very best. I'm glad you find some level of peace in Skyrim

I just stole the gold and sweetrole off her corpse before dumping it in the river
I got unexpectedly emotional watching this. When I first played Skyrim my kids were little and used to watch me play all the time (usually only the outdoors exploration parts, I didn't venture into bone and blood strewn dungeons, but I digress). Each time I hear the music it draws me right back like it was yesterday. Many times I would play the Skyrim soundtrack in the car with them, so the music is as instantly recognizable for them as well. And now, many years later, my daughters have laptops of their own and now I am coaching them through their first playthroughs of their own.

Imagine the absolutely disgusting arrogance of Bethesda to capitalize on this truly iconic and breathtaking score by Jeremy Soule while at the same time casting him off to be relegated to the darkness of the forgotten for their newest installment. The fact that Bethesda does not truly understand that Soule's music caries with him the absolute identity of Tamriel, its truest DNA, its very soul and essence, and believes that someone else (likely Inon Zur) will even be able to conjure a minuscule modicum of the nature of Soule's genius is beyond sad, frustrating, and utterly depressing.

My dad showed me Skyrim when I was 6 or younger. I didn’t know how to read and barely knew what to do, I’m 11 now and I have 90% of achievements on my PS4. I play the game everyday, best decision of my life.
I was like 7, I remember having heard about it from friends telling me you get to fight dragons, cast spells and everything. Once i heard that, i wanted it so bad, i used my pocket money paying for mobile data to download it on my xbox 360 because we didn't have Wifi at the time. Honestly my favorite game of all time. I had a max level character on my xbox back then and it was just the best time i had in life. Now after quite some years i got back to it on PC and it's still just a masterpiece. Now it's 5:30 am and I'm sitting in my room tearing up...
32:13, I imagine all of us Skyrim players throughout the world in 30 years....that although so much time has passed....remembering the times we spent within the walls of Whiterun as we recall our favorite memories of not only this beautiful and amazing game but of our hopefully beautiful and amazing lives as we have grown old. This song is for every one out there who created a long-lasting memory of an adventure that we will never forget.
The streets of whiterun is such a good song. Whiterun is such an impactful place in the game too. I have a lot of great memories walking around there and enjoying the immersion.
This is the comment I was looking for!
Giving me goosebumps cuzzi
its like listening to Zelda ocarina of time soundtrack today =)
Bro you gon make me cry. Dont do this to me please. Im not ready
"Far Horizons" and " The Streets Of Whiterun" Both of these pieces are so beautiful. I'm in tears right now. Bless Jeremy Soule for composing this beautiful score.
The streets of whiterun as to be the best pieces ever made make me so emotional
Those are my two favorite pieces in the entire soundtrack. Streets of Whiterun is devastatingly beautiful in this arrangement. Let’s hope Jeremy returns for ES6.
Fun fact: When writing the music for The Elder Scrolls V, Jeremy Soule included motifs and nods to his creative works for the legendary 2003 Game of the Year, Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic. An example of this is a snippet of Bastila Shan's theme in the song Distant Horizons.
I thought I was the only one in tears... Thinking back to 2011 brought back so many memories.
@@Dumbrarere Good spot. The man is just incredible when it comes to interweaving motifs, especially from the old Elder Scrolls games. One of my favourite constants is how he always references the main Elder Scrolls theme in most of the music in one variation or another, especially in Skyrim.
10 years of playing the game. You guys seriously made me walk in dream in the lands of Nord's, Skyrim. The music teams of World of Warcraft, Elder Scrolls V - Skyrim and Elden Ring are my absolute favorites. Thank you for letting me walk through the lands of Tamriel once more. Gave me chills.
Skyrim, maybe not the best game gameplay-wise, but for me, the best game atmosphere-wise. Walking around that world, feeling like the dragonborn, listening to this beautiful music, no game has ever come close to that feeling that awakened that fall of 2011. For that, this game has and will forever have, a place in my heart.
Back when my wife and I were planning our wedding, I threw out this crazy idea I had of walking down the aisle to Streets of Whiterun, partially as a joke (but not really.) I back tracked and argued for something more traditional when we were in the final planning phases. Fast forward to the wedding when I am walking down the aisle with the wedding party and wouldn't you know it, Streets of Whiterun was playing. My wife worked it in with the DJ as a secret because she knew how much I like that song. I was reminded yet again, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that I was marrying the right one.
My wife walked down the aisle to Ancient Stones. It makes for great music to add that bit of magic to an event.
Such a wholesome story 🥰
Should've gone with Far Horizons and felt like a King
Fuck I would start to blast tears immediately. You did married the right one. I hope you'll be both happy together for a very long time!

This is a beautiful tribute to a game that has shaped many of my viewers lives and my own. Thank you Bethesda.

Its amazing to me how emotionally stirring some of these pieces are. Wonderful to feel the transcendency of music.
thanks to Jeremy Soule
We are never aware we've been part of the legend until it passes. The music is just out of this world. When I hear it now, 10 years after, it's Oscar worthy material. I'm so happy I own Jeremy's signed OST double CD. Sky above, Voice within.
its a good soundtrack but bragging about owning something signed by an alleged rapist isnt really anything to brag about, lol.
God I wish I had his signed works… his music helped me and my friends through very dark times. He is a true master of sound
Damn bro, I ordered a CD back in the day. It never arrived and they never answered my emails at customer support :(
@@Qynth Yeah, I've heard about those problems back in the day. Lots of people complained. I'm sad you didn't get your copy. You might try on ebay. They do appear from time to time. Best of luck.
@@zm0rc ALLEGED. Jeremy Soule, amazing composer, ALLEGED Rapist, suddenly isn't in business anymore. No one knows if the allegations are true, it didn't go to court, and suddenly we're down one of the best Game Music composers in the business. I'm not saying he's innocent, but again, I'm not saying he's guilty either. I HOPE he's innocent, but that means nothing. If he's guilty, well, then he must pay his debt to society, and have his name put on that list. But I have to say, it's amazing how an accusation can ruin a person's career, true or not. Accused of being a Rapist, Your professional Career is over, even if it's not true. Again, we don't know. I say that knowing that more than one woman accused him of something, the fact that we can't trust men, or women, to be honest about something so horrific....is terrifying, and I hate it. I'm going to believe the women, and feel sad about this loss to the gaming, and music, industries.
I used to volunteer as a Hospital Radio DJ. One day I was invited to attend a music session and play powerful and inspiring music to terminally ill cancer patients. I thought of lots of things I could play but I had to choose to play something that meant something to me. I decided to play them From Past To Present and Far Horizons. I wanted to give them something new, something they could listen to wherever they may be. They might have been stuck in a hospital bed with no way to leave. My thinking was to play them some tracks from Skyrim because it instils that large open world feeling and that is exactly what someone confined to a hospital bed would need. Long story short, I was asked back to play my sessions to more terminally ill cancer patients and every time I change what music I am going to play. It means a lot to me and it is always a pleasure to share Jeremy Soules music to anyone. Now it is very likely that these people have since passed on, but I am privileged to have shared with them this wonderful and life fulfilling music. For a moment, if only but a brief moment in our lives - we are confronted with something that is awe inspiring. This music helps me understand what life is about, you can't quite put words to it, but the feeling and the shivers down your spine is what makes it real.
Skyrim player since 2012. This orchestra makes me very emotional
Been playing since 12am 11-11-11
This performance is so good in so many ways, I listened to it so many times and will never get tired of it. Skyrim will live forever.
This is actually amazing. Thank you!
Finally, one of the rare things that you join and approve. Compared to the tons of your vids where we should not join this, or this, or this in skyrim. Be serious bro.
@@dartharyeshzilla7909 I think Avarti in some degree actually loves the game (correct me if I am wrong). Since approximately 3/4 of his videos are about The Elder Scrolls and 50% of it is about Skyrim. He wouldn't spent thousands of hours making videos about it, if it wouldn't be big part of his life. Often the biggest fans are the highest critics. I can feel that nowadays, the TES fans are bit frustrated about it that Bethesda hasn't been able to in 10 years publish any new main TES title other than different kind of special/anniversary editions while at the same time other game publishers have managed to publish games like Witcher lll, Dark Souls/Bloodborn etc. That being said. Everyone acknowledges what kind of impact Skyrim have had to the whole RPG genre. E.g. Kingdom Come: Deliverance probably wouldn't exist if Skyrim would not exist first. I personally think that even nowadays the Skyrim can still out shine some of the most modern RPGs in certain areas (Heck... Even the Morrowind can). Specially when it comes to this mystical experience. Traveling in the woods or up at the mountains. The world, backstory and mythology of TES is is excellent (took many decades to build) and Skyrim managed to utilize and improve it very well. Avarti have some good points when it comes to some characters (Delphine...). Lets just hope that the TES VI will fix these issues.
Hi my friend! Yes this is fantastic.
@@GeneralMiller92FIN dude you aren't wrong. There isn't any other type of game like this, it any of the Elder Scrolls really. The feel, the atmosphere, the deep deep lore, the charm, the janky but workable mechanics... Been a fan since Morrowind on my old ass Xbox and Skyrim, though "dumbed down", is my all time favorite game and has never left that number one spot. I even got my mother and 10yr old daughter heavily (and I am not exaggerating lol) into gaming via Skyrim. This Christmas I'm actually getting my daughter her own Switch with Skyrim and a few other games but had to make sure Skyrim was one of them cause she's put over 300 hrs into it on our shared Switch. I know we have at least Outer Worlds from Bioware which is pretty good and definitely inspired by Bethesda's games, but it missed so many marks of furthering such complexity and world building that the immersion is just not there for me though I did enjoy it. Bethesda catches a lot of flack, some deserved for sure, but they are close to impossible to emulate what makes their games so monumental.
@@dartharyeshzilla7909 You sound hurt lmao

im not much of a crier but i can tell you it still fills me with so much emotion and nostalgia, such a beautiful piece, thank you jeremy soule.
I feel you, dude. First time listening to this concert and all of those great memories makes me tear up many times.
I started levitating
yeah, takes me right back to where i was when i first heard it in the game. Right there... its nice. Asmongold clips quite often have it behind them on YT.
Idk how or why..but the years I have heard the music and enjoyed them through gameplay. The first time I listen to an orchestra of the music, I somehow shed tears to Aurora for how beautiful it sounds, and that was just the first one! Marvelous!!
‘From Past to Present,’ is so damn genius. My all time favorite video game song.
The begginning immediately made me start crying. I've been playing Skyrim since the first day, at ten years old. I didn't fully understand what was going on at first, but it quickly became a solid part of me. It's the game that got me into RPG's, helped shape and carve my imagination. I would give absolutely anything to play it for the first time again. Thank you, Bethesda.
I discovered in back when I was still playing 360. I think I was maybe 15 or 14. I honestly have no idea but listening to this makes me want to cry as well because I group up with Skyrim. I moved from 360 to special edition on xbox 1 and then got the 10th anniversary edition. I can't explain how much skyrim means to me.
Same here, I cried a lot of joy listening to this ❤️

I played Morrowind when i was younger which was a wild ride as i had no idea what i was doing or where i was going and then i got a PS3 which had Oblivion and that was a lot of fun and then finally my older sister got me and my sister Skyrim on steam each when we were 10 around its release and that was how i got into skyrim.
This game got me through so really rough times. This will always have a place in my heart as the greatest piece of art ever made.
I was surprised at how I felt listening to some of these peices again. It might have just been a game but music truly leaves an incredible impression on the soul.
Honestly, I couldn't stop crying at Far Horizons. I've never stop playing this game when I was 14. I'm now 22 and I haven't stop playing it since and I am beyond grateful for what this game had done for me in my life and will always remember my first walkthrough...
Dude I swear, even you mentioning it I'm getting emotional. The beautiful nuance and independence of the lines, the lovely resonant instrumentation of the live version. The piano and flute in Past to Present has such a Christmassy feel to it and I remember nearly 10 years ago returning to this when I was 16, in October-December 2013, cosy as I explored, if nothing else just to hear the music. I'd have a glass of coke, have Friends on in the background and just venture out into Skyrim while amazing music like that sounds in the background. While I found the anniversary edition totally disappointing, this live edition, to me, would have been worth the price of admission alone.
bro i started playing when i was 11 and im 22 now, not a day goes buy where i dont launch skyrim if even just to look at the scenery and listen to ingame music
Far Horizons is definitely the Best Skyrim song.

I love how more and more studios are filming orchestral concerts/recordings of their soundtracks! Dream coming true!
Can you name some, please...
@@Andynox Recently Genshin Impact had a whole 2 hour live stream. Beautiful. They also shared some parts of the recording before the game launched. Ubisoft has an orchestra on their E3, blizzard used to have it for gamescom. The game of the year awards this year will feature the biggest orchestra they've had for the GOTY-medley. League of Legends uploaded a whole mini-documentary (available here on KZhead) about their music creation called "Frequencies". Mostly about the creation process but also with analog recording scenes. These are the ones I can think of. It's by far not a lot yet, but it seems like as if it's gaining a little bit more traction.
I wish they would do orchestral recordings for their games from the start. Like, the in-game soundtracks. Digital may be cheaper, but there's no comparison to the feels of real orchestra experience.
@@Oozaru85 Same. Setting up the cameras and stuff is quite a bit of work but if you're already recording an orchestral soundtrack for your game you might as well publish a video of everyone coming together
@@nxt_tim Nah, I don't mean making videos of the orchestra playing. I mean recording an orchestral soundtrack for your game. Most games do their soundtracks digitally, with just a few or no real instruments at all. I want them to always use a real orchestra for their soundtracks instead of some PC software.
Jeremy Soule's a genius, that's for sure. Wonder why Bethesda didn't credit him in the description as a composer?
Far Horizons is eye-sobbing, this game will never be forgotten for those who experienced it
Well, it helps that lots of people get to experience it when it gets remastered and put on every new platform every few years. Edit - Not to detract from this performance, or the fact that the game just has a fantastically moving and very memorable soundtrack to start with.

It truly is delightful.
You ought to check out Gustav Holst's "The Planets", quite a bit of great French horn goodness in that suite! But yes, Far Horizons makes you feel like the universe itself is telling you that it is aware of your dreams and that you hold some value within it, as if the notes are denoting purpose in your feelings and memories. One of the best songs in the game.

This music brought me to tears... it brought me back in time. When I first played Skyrim, I was strung out, addicted to drugs - even my own family didn't want me. I had no self worth, and frankly no reason to even make it to tomorrow. This game transported me to another world. Gave me the escape that I needed during the toughest period in my life, I'll never forget those times... they made me who I am today, and Skyrim will always hold a very special place in my heart until the end of my days. Far Horizons is literally one of the greatest pieces of music ever. I get chills whenever I listen to it.
Then it's time to listen to real music.
@Baker this is real music. The “real” music you speak of is just a different type of music. Video game OSTs have some of the most memorable, famous, and recognizable songs in history. Just take the Super Mario Bros overworld theme for example, it is recognizable to almost anyone as soon as they hear the first two beats. Video Game music is a different and just as, if not more popular form of music.

@UC9Z_SO7vbcXexl6FOQbEw_A it is sad because real life *should* be better than a game. But for some people it isn't. And its compassionate and empathetic to understand that - its ignorant to believe otherwise.
