2006 Pescarolo C60 LMP1 'Hybrid' w/ Judd GV5 V10: OnBoard Laps, Accelerations & Sound!
Here's a video about another icon of the Gran Turismo franchise: the Pescarolo C60. The example you see up here is in its 'final', 2006 evolution and it's now preserved and managed by the guys at @jmbclassic, who I have to thank for providing me with the onboard footage! Listen to the glorious Judd V10 engine sound in action around Mugello Circuit, driven by one of its former drivers, Emmanuel Collard, during the 2024 Mugello Classic by @peterautoracing in the Endurance Racing Legends series!
First thing first: no, this C60 doesn't have a real hybrid power unit but that term refers to the LMP1 'Hybrid' regulations introduced in 2005 ahead of the completely new LMP1 class of 2007. I'll explain this better later.
Pescarolo Sport was a French motorsport team founded in February 2000 by French racing driver Henri Pescarolo and his friend François Granet. From 1994 to 1998, Henri Pescarolo had been driving for the Courage Compétition squad with some success, but in 1999 he decided to run his own team for the 24 Hours of Le Mans, as customer team of the factory's Courage entries. The team was initially known as the Pescarolo Promotion Racing Team and it took a well-deserved ninth-place finish. Following this success, Pescarolo decided that he would retire from racing as a driver, but remain in sports car racing as a team owner founding the following year Pescarolo Sport.
Pescarolo remained close to Courage, using their C52 chassis, as well as reaching an agreement with Peugeot to supply new turbocharged engines. In their first run at Le Mans, the team managed an impressive fourth-place finish. With this success, Pescarolo Sport expanded vastly for the 2001 season, purchasing two new Courage C60 chassis (chassis number 03 and 04) to be used in various races of the American Le Mans Series, European Le Mans Series, FIA Sportscar Championship, as well as the usual entry at Le Mans.
The Courage C60 was built by Courage Compétition in 2000 for the LMP900 class, powered by a 4.0-litre naturally-aspirated Judd GV4 V10 engine linked to a X-Trac 6-speed manual-sequential gearbox. Pescarolo's C60 began using a 3.2-litre twin-turbocharged Sodemo-Peugeot A32 V6 engined version of the car, a version that would prove to be the most successful. In 2004 Pescarolo further developed their C60s, opting for a 5.0-litre Judd GV5 V10 engine instead of the Peugeot unit. Their cars were renamed as just 'Pescarolo C60', removing the 'Courage' name.
For 2005 Courage and Pescarolo both released redeveloped versions of the C60 LMP900 for the new LMP1 'Hybrid' regulations, where the term 'Hybrid' only refers to the fact that the chassis of these cars could and was still based on the older LMP900 regulations, but the aerodynamics package was fully up to date with the upcoming LMP1 regulations. In fact in anticipation of the completely new class for the 2007 season, the ACO offered the teams a three year transition period during which old and upgraded LMP900 cars could still be fielded. These 'hybrid' cars were a relatively cheap and easy option to still used the old LMP900 cars without suffering the performance penalties.
Both versions (Pescarolo and Courage) were designated as C60 Hybrids and used Judd engines. The Pescarolo version retained its Judd GV5 engine, with a claimed power output of 630 hp, whilst the Courage version used the smaller 600 hp Judd GV4 engine, and featured a noticeably different rear wing.
In 2005 Pescarolo Sport won two rounds of the Le Mans Endurance Series season. These wins helped the team to earn their first championship. This success continued at Le Mans, with Pescarolo finishing in second place behind an Audi, separated by just two laps, and also making the fastest lap of the race. In 2006 their C60 was further developed making them a dominant, front-running team in that year. In the Le Mans Series, Pescarolo won all five races and easily defending their championship title. At Le Mans, the team also repeated their previous success by taking another second place, this time behind the new works Audi R10 diesel.

This instantly reminded me of Gran Turismo
Yep. Gran Turismo 5 actually right?
@@purwantiallan5089 PSP lol, but I think GT5 was released around that time as well

2006 was the first year that I saw the 24 hours of Le Mans and the Pescarolo team had a great line up, and one of them was Sebastien Loeb... I would love to see him again driving that car...
Gran Turismo feelings!!!! 🤗😌🤌
If the title has Judd in it heck yes I'm watching!!
Collard, such a pro! Clean lines and consistent mirror checks!👌
When the auto racing world first started moving from V-12s to V-10s, I thought the 10 cylinder engines sounded hideous, but, now, I'm hearing a howl that I find quite stirring, maybe because I was so invested in some of the F1 drivers of that day, Juan Pablo Montoya, who I saw drive in IndyCar, perhaps the most. Thanks for this! 🔥❤🔥
I've always thought the F1 V10s sounded awful - just like a bunch of screaming kids. The endurance engines are much more interesting, although I don't think you can beat a high-revving v12 still.
@Karibanu It's more of the fact that they're unnecessarily loud. A single car for a couple of laps is good, but multiple cars for multiple laps get annoyingly painful. Same with NASCAR. For those people who want to experience what V10 F1 was like back in the day, they should go to a modern NASCAR race. The practice, qualifying, and early race is good, but as the race goes on, you start to feel sick, and the sound becomes annoying. Top Fuel, the loudest motorsport in the world, gets a pass because there's a huge downtime every run. You get to relax a bit before hell breaks loose again.
@@Karibanui miss the sound of these legendary LMP1 cars from 2005.😢
@@johncarl5505 The F1 engines had a very flat range of tones... few of the harmonics from the v12s, just a REEEEEEEE. The endurance engines tended to rev lower & had a little more life, altho even the aston v12 sometimes just sounds like an elephant stuck trumpeting :D
What an amazing piece of engineering
Emmanuel Collard , a very good french driver 👍👍
I remember buying this in Gran Turismo 4, as the first LMP-car. Very cool car, that sparked the next cars to be the likes of 787B, GT One , V12 LMR etc.
This is the content we're here for! 😍
Pescarolo a Name linked with Racing. 👍👍
SO nice to see a proper driver using a car like this as it should be used, a very rare thing in modern historic racing
Well it is one of the drivers that originally drove it in period so there's that..
i mean, this right there is one of the reasons why i fell in love with motorsport as a teenager
GT4 Memories
GT5 for me.
For me it was from GT4 to 6.
With stuff like this, how do you NOT have a million subs already?😳
Great coverage of the Mugello Classic event by you and NM2255! The quality is on point as always. Will you guys attend Spa Classic this year?
pretty sure bozzy makes videos from Italy and very, very occasionally from elsewhere, I wouldn't expect of him to attend, but there's always a maybe
Amazing ! One of the first car I saw at le mans during my young days, so many memories 😊 Thanks a lot for your top quality footage Bozzy !
Anche l'onboard ??! Sei un grande Bozzy, di gran lunga il numero 1 !! STUPENDO, grazie mille.
2005 was the first year that i started to pay attention to sportscar & GT Racing, it was cars like this that got me hooked. It looks amazing and sounds even better. @1:34 was what got me hooked. You have the sound and speed of the LMP1 Judd, the amazing sound and looks of the GT1 V12s. I know what we have now is good and we should be thankful but i do miss that kind of variety of sounds. Also its brilliant to see that the Judd V10 is still being used today, lately in the Mclaren Solus.
One of my favorites of the era. So glad to have an onboard with good sound and video quality!
The one i've been waiting for!!!! Thank you bozzy
Gran Turismo 4!!

Hi....🔥🙏🔥 Eyes, ears and mind are full!!! Impressive pictures.👍👌 So thanks for the sharing. 🙏😌

Well explained the "hybrid" thing.
Beautiful track, Beautiful car, Beautiful channel. OK to me
Saw this car during HSR weekend at daytona, amazing sound
GT5 memories...soo fresh.
Thank you very much Bozzy and friends for, as always, fantastic videos. In July i'm planning to go on the very similiar event, Brno Grand Prix Revival organized by Masters Historic Racing. Tickets are avalaible for Saturday and Sunday. Is it possible to enter the track on Friday, is there any activity on track? And secondly, do you have media pass or something like that for filming from different places on the track? The second question is only asked out of curiosity :p. Best regards.
Love hearing this, this car was op atleast in gran turismo 6
Hope to see it in the next Top Sounds Vol. 18 😍
No ma il tuffo al cuore quando sono entrato nel loro garage al Mugello. Veramente una macchina iconica per la nostra generazione
Great footage!! Bela captura do Pescarolo C60!
Thanks for sharing Bozzy. Do you have any footage of the Lister Storm?
Should have won Le Mans 2005, loved that car
It would have been so without damaging the steering arm and worse than that, a complete gearbox change which took 45 minutes to solve.
Super quick car...
Shizuku Osaka's favourite race car, the 2005 and 2006 PESCAROLO C60 Hybride, makes me miss memories of GRAN TURISMO 5 and 6.... On GT5, it is SO HARD to obtain due to being hidden in rotating Used Car Dealership...
Saw V10 lmp car 🎉
BEST COMMENT: WOW ! 💚💚💛💛❤❤
😍💙❤💙❤🇫🇷🏁
The last Courage built by Pescarolo before switching to its original 01,hence still being called C60
Gran Turismo 4.
More v10 videos like this
in gt4 that was the best car i did the nordschleife in under 5min with a pesca
:D
2006 Hybrid ?
Hybrid in that era means adapted to the new ruleset. Double roll hoop, different aero, etc.
Ah, the car that got annihilated by a diesel. Well o be fair they did well for a privateer effort.
Considering the diesels were 120hp more powerful, loads of torque and better fuel consumption yeah definitely, they did very well for privateers
