James Tony is a living legend.
So is his "hotdog pack" neck
I recall the fights toney had with Mike McCollum, masterful boxing IQ, ring general ship, against an awesome fighter... he was at his best at middle or super middle weight imo... I'm sorry to see his mental faculty has declined though... he is legendary middle weight going all the way to the heavy weight... incredible
@@rgg7260 100% agreed 👌
My favorite of all time!
James Toney is like a full fight highlight
James puts him down as soon as someone yells "lights out'
I watched this live. Toney was on the comeback trail after 2+ years off and was laying waste. He went seven more years without a defeat. Legend.
I saw it live too. It was the first time I saw Toney. Never seen anyone like him
Toney is the first defensive pressure fighter I've ever seen.
Another term I’ve heard used to describe Toney is “Aggressive Counterpuncher”
@@anthonynocera3846 that one is better. It makes more sense. He doesn’t really apply pressure like Marciano and Frazier did, instead, he baits and draws his opponent. He kind of sets traps and waits. He does apply pressure sometimes though.
yeah defensive pressure fighter would be winky wright
Dempsey wrote a book about it.
@@johnshogskins4443 called what and also what section?
Big respect for Robinson. He was in there with a KILLER. Lights Out.
Fine tuning. If you arent on that world championship level, 99% of the time the guy who is will take you out in the fine margins. Its not a game of inches, its a game of millimetres.
I remember this fight because Toney used the same trap and overhand left that he used to KO Mike Nunn. Toney and Duran were two guys who would pressure the hell out of you WHILE being nearly untouchable at their best. Floyd had moments when he would do it but these guys made careers out of going after guys and beating them up while hardly getting touched.
Two of the most beautiful brutal boxers to exist. Exciting asf but scientific asf in boxing.
You right. Well said
Ive never seen a guy more comfortable in the ring than James Toney.
This one of my favorite James Toney fights. Man was in his second prime this era
Which cruiserweights are better than Toney in boxing history apart from Holyfield and Roy Jones ? I dont really know boxing that much and I'm trynna think of some
@@antoinemantoux1520 I'd say Usyk is on that trajectory but it may be too early to say
Roy Jones was NEVER a cruiser genius !
@@serenityinside1 Thanks for the info. At lighter weights Jones was better than Toney tho. But Toney really is one of the greatest of all times in all weight classes
yes he did, he had 11 fights at cruiser.
James Toney is classic beast
More of toney if possible.
Fucking James Toney man.... what a legend
James Toney with the Flawless Left 👏🏾
What a treat, to see this Legend in HD, (well for that era). Toney is my favorite fighter of all time. Those slips, ducks, technical prowess, heart of a lion, and hits strong.
Imagine if he would have trained his body anda would have be more fittted
@@tomasdipietro794 Yeah this guy was a phenom. But also a true student of the game, and the history. It is crazy to think, if he didn't enjoy eating so much, and was more humble in his 20's. You probably know, he didn't like training, (running, exercises, etc). He mostly sparred, to keep in shape. He probably has the most sparring time of any boxer, lol.
@@jaydee8926 no doubt about it, he don't run for 5 years but he was helluva a fighters with great reflexes
@@tomasdipietro794 Interesting, didn't know that. Yes, great fighter, my favorite of all time, in fact. He was like Mayweather, but more courage, hit harder, badass attitude, less "industry type", and more badass overall, lol.
12:00 Really? 😆
I'm finally able to watch this fight in a resolution above 240p
We gotchu!
Didn’t really appreciate JT back then as RJ stole his shine for me, but 20 plus years later I can really appreciate the fighter he was. He is now one of my favourite fighter to pull out of the archives to watch and admire his skill.
The sneaky right hand by toney before the knockout left hook was the set up. When he threw the right hand he had to sneak it which threw him off balance. Toney in control the whole fight. Toney in my top 5 greatest fighters ever!
I was looking for this comment. U mean in the 7th round, when they said Robinson stumbled Tony, right? I swore it was Tony's punch that threw him off balance.
@@PancakeDiaries Exactly, 23:59. The announcers were dead wrong. Because Robinson didn't touch Toney in that exchange. That was a clean right shot by JT, and it stunned Robinson. JT then went in for the kill later.
What a knockout. Jeez. One of my favourite fighters of all time….he could definitely talk the talk and walk the walk. What an example of combination punching ending with a murderous left hook to end matters. Lights out was the absolute real deal. Miss great fighters like this…:bygone era now, Toney, McClellan, Hopkins, Jones to name a few.
"That's why he's James Toney" ultimate respect from the opponents corner.
toney my favourite boxer ever. got so much style
Thanks for posting this! It’s my favorite era of toney 😂
We gotchu!
Been watching James Tony fights, just went a watched a Danny Garcia fight...straight back to James Tony
Really appreciate this upload thanks 👍🏽👍🏽
Reminds of watching these fights when I was a kid. Are these ring side commentators still around?
James Toney,and it's business as usual!!✊️😎🤣🤣🤣
Unfortunately Roy Johes Fought John Ruiz at Heavyweight but never Gave Toney a Rematch at Heavyweight
I love watching tony vs Samuel Peterson...what a lovely fight for me.
James toney the best
James is a good 👍 boxer is arte. NIce to watch
guys a beast
24:00 toney didn’t get hit he hit Robinson
Yep. A perfect right hand from lights out
same thing i saw too
For reals these commentators were very wrong he got a bit wobbly robinson basically the beginning of the end for him
That’s what I thought!
All you keep hearing was lights out in the crowd then boom Tony Lights out in the next few secs. lol
Toney is one of the most entertaining boxers iv'e ever seen.
Toney finally fights to his potential
Toney is boxing wonderful, I really like him a lot the way his doing boxing. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
At the end, James Toney’s experience came in but Jason Robinson did really good. I think he should’ve capitalized more power on his straight lefts and I think he could’ve caught Tony a few times
The real nightmare, not just agressive defense, he can sit in the pocket, feet on his opponents centerline, an rip counters all day. He is impossible to hurt Even though he is slow footed, you cant keep him off you. If uou mabage to do that, it's because he let's you. It's a trap, especially when his back on the ropes.
You've probably seen Toney fight you know what level your on and you still fight him....Gutsy and or a bit foolish.
I love that ko. Its was an effortless shot. You could see him bounce right before he threw it to catch the opponent's rhythm
Oh God, I was feeling every punch from here.
Who promoted this fight?? What a tiny venue and crowd for such elite boxers.
"Lights Out"
Toney turns guys like this into sparring partners.
James "Lights Out" Toney🔥🔥
my favorite boxer of all time , JAMES TONY . the best ever !!!
Toney the technician
Lights out baby ! James toney defence master one of the best boxer punchers in history fact
Beautiful punch
Yeah
Ferguson's corner: "You're boxing beautiful Toney"
Toney and Duran were the most natural fighters I ever saw
Imagine a prime for prime fight between Toney and Canelo at 168? Holy shit that would be a fight!
easy fight for Toney
@@kanthonybeats Toney might get robbed if he don't stop him though
@@kanthonybeats easy? i dont think so
Toney would beat Canelo down
@@kanthonybeats Thanks for letting us know you dont know shit. That is not an easy fight for either guy.
Once toney finds the range on his left snap jab it sets up his roll into that philly shell which then leads to the counter hooks. Love his style.. alot of judges score him wrong because they dont see the beauty thats taking place.
And thats Lights Out.....
4:13 uh….ever heard of Vitaly Klitschko??
Легендарный Тони
"the bad and the beautiful" ?????? wonder which way round she means..... 0:21
Toney should have been DQ'd for hitting the guy when he was down in the fifth. When all that is supporting you is the ropes, that means you are down.
That switch to Southpaw turns your Short left hook to a Over left hand
God please give James Toney the respect he deserves in this life.
Master Boxer puts a few casual rounds in the bank then has an early shower so he can go on date with his wife.
One of the Greatest 🎉😂😅
Robinson don't know how to punch 😂
Toney was a maestro at switching from orthodox to southpaw and this punch was the exact one he KO'ed Michael Nunn with. Who was brilliant at switch hitting too was Mike Tyson. He did it against both Trevor Berbick and Pinklon Thomas
He’s so good at rotating on that left hook
Tony toyed around with him the whole fight that was a sparring session for him🐐
Toney lost the overall hand speed like he did in his early days but his skills were as sharp as ever, and his power was on point. Ain’t no telling how he would’ve been if he’d stayed in shape throughout his career..
Similar to that Nunn Punch
Toney has one of the biggest, most bulbous heads in the game. Lmao
As soon as he hit james you knew it was gonna be over soon lol. Hea never in shape so his performance is based on how much he cares lol
TBE
My favorite boxer of all times.
Robinson was waiting for the right hook the whole fight..
Jason improve a lot in comparison to the time of fighting with talmadge griffis 👍👍👍
That's called crumpling.
Amy hayes 🤤🤤🤤
A good fighter vs Expert boxer.
Jason your mistake is not throwing left hook right after straight right hand jab!
Ring craft. Veteran Toney vs Veteran Duran ? I gotta say Toney.
Common Jason, you only throw straight punches with your left hand Why? Sometimes you should have tried hook with your hand hand too! Practice harder for next fight.
I really wish Toney stayed at cruiserweight. It gave him an incentive to stay somewhat in shape and he would have dominated that division for years.
Of course he loss the fight before it started his trainer George was and still is a bum. Lol he had 1 guy name lil ed that did nothing but cry. 🤣
Jason you cannot punch properly with your left hand or what?
Jason you lack so many skills! Most probably hook for both hands!
Robinson weak
We need Jake paul vs james toney....
