I know it can be controlled with diet so I’m transitioning to low carb. Some days I’m full on carnivore so I’ve been mixing it up day by day. More than one doctor is irritated that I’m refusing their drugs. My body, my choice. I have to live with my decisions, not them.

  • I will add these tips aren't just for fighting chronic disease but also recovering from injury. Fell off a building in January, only onto concrete with my left foot, shattering my heel (calcaneus for the medically inclined). Luckilly sustained no other injuries. I wrote it off as being healthy/strong/lucky. The recovery road is a process. Sometimes I feel down, but I exist to defy what surgeons, therapists, and others have told me of how I will forever be limited in my life as a result. Good diet still followed (low carb), still lifting weights (upper body), and slowly easing into full use of my leg. Ive overcome injuries before with 0 limitations (shattered elbow, broken hand, and more) and I will be adding this one to the list. The human body, although fragile, is amazing. Stay determined. Never give up.

Love beer and wine and sometime “unhealthy” foods. I`m a believer in the body will heal its self. Just give it time and and have a good balance in life. There are so many tests doctors can take and they can find something “wrong” if they want to and then you are caught in the medicin hell hole that so many people i know are trapped in. Life is fleeting, live it well because you never know what tomorrow brings.

  • Number 5 was my turning point about 3 years ago. There was a small health scare going on back then and I realized that all of our "health authorities" were simply doing the bidding of the companies that own them, despite the fact that everything they told us was the opposite of true health advice. Thankfully I found Dr. Dhand's channel, got me some Bluebreeze and started working out and eating right, and now I'm at a healthy weight, no psoriasis, lower HbA1c, and feel great. Too bad so many people still trust the Big-Pharma-owned "authorities" and the greedy food (sludge) companies.

  • This is so true! And many docs nowadays don’t tell you anything beyond take such and such pill. My dad had an old school doc recommend him to a nutritionist to help him manage his diabetes through diet. In contrast, my mother in law’s doc does not. I had to bring it up with her to seek out a nutritionist. In my own health journey, I caught a doom loop toward pulmonary hypertension after getting suckered into taking the shot. My cardiologist prescribed for me a couple of pills to try and manage it, and they’d see me every year for progression monitoring, but that was it. I did research on my own and broke it with magnesium supps. It was early enough before damage set in I could stop it. The docs never discussed this option with me. They’ve even been amazed at how everything has returned to normal! They don’t ask how I did it though. Thanks Dr Dhand for all you do!

  • I fell into the trap of ready made processed food and high fat food and my "wake up call" was suffering from gallbladder issues leading to having it removed. The stomach pain I had for year and a half and having 3 gallbladder attacks was my....Enough Is Enough moment to not be casual about my diet and health. Now I go to the YMCA 2x a week, or if the weather is nice once a week for weights and for cardio jog on the nature trails. My diet I found lower fat substitutes: ground chicken for burgers, chicken sausage, ect. Sometimes it takes a "wake up call" moment to get people take health seriously, when it's sad is when people don't listen to their body.

There are many ways to stay fit without going to the gym... hiking, hardening, yoga. With food, subtitute gradually. I keep a pitcher of water with mint and lemon geranium or make ice tea instead of those awful mixes. It has to be about doable alternatives.

If something only helps a little bit but you do it every day and those days turn into years it can be powerful. I also like how you said it's so important to focus on your health even over family and I agree 100%. Not only does poor health keep you from helping them but you become a burden to them also.

  • I usually agree with you, but in this case I must make a strong exception. I'm 77, very fit and active for my age. I have outlived every male and female in my family tree by at least 15 years. All of my predecessors on both sides of the family died from heart problems while in their 60's or 70's. Obviously my family genetics as related to most health issues are great, but not good for those related to cardiac artery size and clogging tendencies. In my case, the three stents that were installed 15 years ago seem to have gotten me past the usual age for death in our family (so far). In the same way, some people are genetically vulnerable to certain cancers or organ failures. For you to propose that a "Positive Mindset" will let people avoid our genetic destiny is bad advice that leads to false hope. Longevity is NOT going to be achieved simply by the power of our minds!

  • I am very curious about mind-body healing relationships. Obviously there is a lot of research on this, though it is curious how far the placebo effect can go. There is a missing space for how philosophy and medicine can interact. You might be interested in reading about Dr. Pellegrino, who was a physician inspired by Aristotle and Aquinas.

  • I have adopted a carnivore diet and I have dropped 17 kgs. Down a clothing size. I feel much healthier now and my seizures have reduced tremendously. Not completely gone but surely much less seizures. I have also reduced my dosage behind my neurologists back. The drugs never worked in the first place so what's the point in taking them in the first place. I was taking a much bigger dosage and when eating too much carbohydrates I was having much more seizures. I will soon be going totally off my epilepsy drugs.

    • You might find online forums for that specific med. I’ve had to look around to find out how others are tapering off when doctors won’t help with that. They prescribe then let you aimlessly fend for yourself.

  • I like your approach very much. It’s indeed tempting to think that giving information is enough, but for a real lifestyle-change the points you mention are crucial. Dr David Unwin and his wife Jen sometimes play a scene on conferences to point out how easy it is for a doctor to miss the second part…
