people call me crazy. but the only times i sleep well is with dogs around. curled up with me or my fail safe to falling asleep a dog crunching on its bone. my mom a long time dog owner also thinks that weird until i explained it and hear me out. you know how most humans can just sit and stare into a fire for hours and blab on about how relaxing it is. you know because all humans do is destroy and such. well my primal memory is from around the time we domesticated animals. instead of burning everything to the ground i found peace in the ones i had near. those crunchy sounds crackle just like a log folks. my last dog used to get yelled at for chewing on things and bones. when she realized i actually egged on her chewing on things she was so happy. i didnt know what she had and she was chewing on something. she never did that before in the time i had her. just wanted to make sure she wasnt eating something she shouldnt be. tried to hide it and i got it anyways. and was like ohh you have a piece of bone. you want that back and she was gonna take my hand off for it if she had to. im like well alright just dont eat it. i gave it back and she was so happy. she realized i wouldnt take it away. and she crunched her bone proudly. i was like ohh do you have your crunchy bone? and she stuck her face up and just crunched away as loudly as possible. literally echoing off the walls. pure bliss it seemed. shortly after she had all sorts of bones of diff sizes and the neighbors dropped off dinner bones often too and shed break little pieces off to crunch on. she didnt like the whole big bone. like a piece of bubble gum for a dog. pretty soon after id eat dinner give her her share of dinner. pretty much half and shed crunch away on her bone and id fall asleep feet warmed by a fat dog just like a nap infront of the fire.

Just putting this here for possum lover info. :D Possums get metabolic problems if there is not enough calcium in the diet, too much phosphorous, too much protein, or too many fruits. The possum must have a specific calcium to phosphorous ratio to stay healthy. An ideal diet is a balanced cat chow with a small amount of supplementary foods such as fruits, vegetables, sardines with bones packed in water, raw meat with bones, eggs, low fat yogurt, etc. Some dry cat foods are actually a great choice, you just need to check the calcium to phosphorous ratio. But too many fruits can cause them problems, as they will always select fruits over more balanced foods. An occasional apple is fine though, especially for a wild possum.

True! No whiny stories about bad dates, etc--straight down the hatch.
Unlike so many youtubers, this possum gets right to the point! No lead up, no wasted time. Just real content.

(2 minutes of ads follow) Annoying intro begins, accompanied by a cringe heavy metal, anime soundtrack: "30! . . . . 29! . . . .28! . . . " etc A two minute video begins. It is filmed vertical video and the camera shakes constantly. Also, is out of focus. There is an annoying baby-music soundtrack added. A loud Television can be heard in the background. A hyperactive barking dog can also be heard. At the 1:55 second mark, an opossum pokes its head around a corner. Narrator: "Whoa! Dude! That's an OPOSSUM!" 5 minutes of annoying outro.

So cute. They're very docile creatures unlike most people think. They just try to scare away but don't actually attack.
Animals eating food is so calming.
Imagine how rarely a possum would get to eat a treat like this. A whole entire apple, fresh, unblemished, not in the garbage or half-eaten or rotting. How would a possum ever get that themselves? It must be like finding a treasure for them.
I will now refer to food internally as 'possum treasure.'
Lotta people have fruit trees that they dont maintain, so when they drop their fruit wild animals tend to swarm the fruit
@@jackhazardous4008Yes but how many possums have the chance to eat a whole fresh apple by themselves?
Clearly it didn't mean much since it just abandoned the apples
It is so adorable to think of this possum living its best life cronching on some fruit
I like how after each bite the Possum licks the juice. Definitely a connoisseur with a refined palate.
I know! It's the cutest thing! He's like, "Jesus! this is the best water I've ever had!" *Lick, lick, lick 😅
Too true - adorable little thing!
It’s sad that these guys have such short lifespans. They’re fascinating creatures

I work in wildlife rehabilitation, and mainly feed baby animals that come in to the clinic. Opossums are the most common animal we get in, and they’re my favorite! As babies, they make little chirping noises and when they see you they reach out and want to climb all over you ❤❤❤
Omg yes. If you have long hair, they love to try to cling on with their grabby little fists (including their foot fists, lmao)
@@roseberry9738 Yes! Their little grabby hands!! 🥰
must be hard to resist interacting with them too much
@@YEs69th420 omg it’s very hard! I especially have trouble with not naming them. :( even the ones that we can’t release back into the wild and keep as ambassador animals, we can’t name.

people call me crazy. but the only times i sleep well is with dogs around. curled up with me or my fail safe to falling asleep a dog crunching on its bone. my mom a long time dog owner also thinks that weird until i explained it and hear me out. you know how most humans can just sit and stare into a fire for hours and blab on about how relaxing it is. you know because all humans do is destroy and such. well my primal memory is from around the time we domesticated animals. instead of burning everything to the ground i found peace in the ones i had near. those crunchy sounds crackle just like a log folks. my last dog used to get yelled at for chewing on things and bones. when she realized i actually egged on her chewing on things she was so happy. i didnt know what she had and she was chewing on something. she never did that before in the time i had her. just wanted to make sure she wasnt eating something she shouldnt be. tried to hide it and i got it anyways. and was like ohh you have a piece of bone. you want that back and she was gonna take my hand off for it if she had to. im like well alright just dont eat it. i gave it back and she was so happy. she realized i wouldnt take it away. and she crunched her bone proudly. i was like ohh do you have your crunchy bone? and she stuck her face up and just crunched away as loudly as possible. literally echoing off the walls. pure bliss it seemed. shortly after she had all sorts of bones of diff sizes and the neighbors dropped off dinner bones often too and shed break little pieces off to crunch on. she didnt like the whole big bone. like a piece of bubble gum for a dog. pretty soon after id eat dinner give her her share of dinner. pretty much half and shed crunch away on her bone and id fall asleep feet warmed by a fat dog just like a nap infront of the fire.

@@PossumTrough *Small calming hisses and chewing on earlobe as they cut your hair half hazardly.*
It’s hilarious when they do this. We heard a heck of a commotion outside and it turned out to be a possum trying to eat an apple on a window ledge. He kept smacking it against the ground like this. I left a bunch of sliced apples instead. Seemed to help.
You, sir, have impeccable taste in doctors and are a true gentleman to America's only marsupial
I have a girl opossum and I have to peel off the skin and cube it. I believe in the wild, rotten fruit has a bit of fermentation and opossum are prone to liking alcohol 😊
How do you know it was a “he”?
I also slice up apples, bananas, large strawberries, and hard boiled eggs. I don't want them to choke on big pieces.
@@intrusive-th0tWhy is that what you're fixated on?
It keeps licking the juices. Hehe so cute. My possum in the yard is very timid but I do leave nutritious treats and it seems happy.

How do you know it’s a “he”?
Possums do so much for humans that we don’t appreciate. They are AMAZING at insect pest control, and honestly, their only defense is hissing, and playing dead. Whomever left these snackies out for the adorable possum, thank you. You’ve inspired me to do the same (we are also putting up bat houses, and a few other things to help the little critters during winter).
i dunno how but i made a friend with a bat, i come out at night and this one bat always comes to see me
Dont forget they never get rabies.
Fr they really just want us to go away and let them do their garbage truck duties in peace. They clean up the neighborhoods for us :,)
AWEsome I love to see comments like this.
don't feed wildlife
Possums are amazing. And very good for the environment. It's a shame they are so vulnerable and mistaken as dangerous animals...
Honestly I don't think most people think they're dangerous, they just think they're gross or ugly, and for humans, sadly, that's enough to mean they don't deserve to live anymore i guess
And their lower body temperature makes them pretty resistant to rabies apparently.
@kristyw89 It's the rat tail that does them in.
@@RuSosanwould for sure need to see a source on that
Well, I know that opossums in Australia are ACTUALLY dangerous. But here in the USA, they're pretty docile, I agree. Just be careful of any in Australia. Whole different environment, whole different personality.

Bless this little possum, they’re so cute
This Possum is indeed crunching apples. And you should be proud of him.

FWIW that opossum is a "she". Adult male opossums develop big much bigger, rounder skulls than this one has.

How can anyone hate these little cute creatures? I can understand being scared of them, but actually hating them and hunting them down? You'd have to be a monster. They're such harmless and useful little critters!
Exactly!
Agreed!
And they're sooooo cute :)
Eh they get into things and make a mess but I wouldn't go out of my way to hurt them. I had one take up in my garage once and since he didn't cause any problems I just let him chill. He'd freeze up when I went to go get pizzas out of the garage freezer then go about his business doing possum things. Kinda like having a weird cat you can't pet.

I am lucky. But it's also a matter of perspective. Here, possums are considered pests. You probably have a few unique animals in your area that most people consider pests but are actually quite interesting.
I have possums around my house, they eat our squirrel food at night
@@IliveinurwallsI absolutely love possums
PESTS? They eat ACTUAL pests, like ticks! They're also not good carriers of rabies, so you want these around 10x more than raccoons! Very sad people view them as pests.@@PossumTrough

It's really nice to see that you care enough to give it apples & not some crap cat food OR hot dogs.!!!🥰
@@MeisaimsI was gonna say, cat food is great for a surprising range of animals, not just cats. It's what I mostly feed my pet hedgehog

Greetings I absolutely adore opossums! We have tons of them in our yard. I tend to chop up some apple so they can access it easier. But opossums always make a big mess when they eat.
I tried cut up apples last summer, but the slices dried out too fast. They ignored whole fresh apples, too. The apples in this video had gone bad, and I guess that's just what a possum craves.
The 'Chunk the Groundhog' channel has night time trail cams dotted around, and they invariably capture shots of the neighborhood possum gingerly taking an apple for himself in the dark! Apples must be one of their favourites. Adorable creatures! I love how Momma possum carries her babies in a pouch - till they get too big to fit, and spill out clinging to her fur as she walks. So precious!
