  • The 4.4 is a very easy engine to work on. It’s not hard to pull these motors and reseal them. I buy these all the time. I plan on pulling the engine and replacing the valve stem seal, timing chain guides (maybe the chain), coolant pipe, timing cover gaskets, valve cover gaskets, and alternator bracket seal for every one I pick up. It’s a weekend job at an easy pace.

  • I'm currently between cars. I totaled my Ghibli a couple months ago. A pillar of the community with a promising future stole a car and ran a red light going 80. It tore the front nose of my car completely off and broke both front axles. A witness to the accident told her husband to not stop and help because no one could have possibly survived that crash. Needless to say, I did with relatively few injuries. After the crash, I was able to simply open the door and get out. Yay to Maserati for designing a safe car! Unfortunately the pillar of the community with a promising future who ran a red light in his stolen car needed the jaws of life to extricate him. Immediately after the crash when I was able to think straight I checked on him. He wasn't wearing a seat belt and it was bad. I'll never unsee that.

However, his stories about the exorbitant repair bills and the many times I saw the 535i on a flatbed, plus our monthly (bonding?) trips to the mechanic spooked me. Had I kept it the car, it would have ended up like this one (in need of repairs I couldn't or wouldn't afford, so I sold it to his best friend.
