HAS POCHETTINO ACTUALLY IMPROVED CHELSEA AT ALL? 🤔

Chelsea's up and down season continues after a historic win against Manchester United was followed up by a hugely disappointing 2-2 draw against Sheffield Utd.
We took a lot back at the job our manager Mauricio Pochettino has done and asked the question - 'Have we actually improved?'

  • Look to the performances of other teams with big injury crises. Newcastle got into the top 4 last season with a great defence and this season they have conceded the same number of goals as us. Spurs fell apart for half the season with half the injuries we had and have conceded tonnes of goals. To think despite all of the injuries we still have a shot at 6th (but will probably be 7th/8th), cup final and in the semi final v city. Starting back 4 is missing James, colewill, fofana. Start of the season you would assume nkunku would be our best player. Can’t find alternative solutions in the midfield because lavia and uguchukwu are gone. Poch in - his second season at all old clubs saw a big jump in form. - tiny differences and we can have a good season - sterling squares it for the win 3/4 times, galllagher doesn’t miss sitters in cup final etc

  • Great yo see the Joey and Josh podcast back. Congrats on the marathon. The cup run looks great on the surface but we largely played lower league opposition. There is little to no; composure, consistency in patterns of play, ability to control a game. Individual player development hasn't been great. Distances are wrong more often than not. This is a talented group of players so individually of course there will be monents which is what we are scraping by on. We are miles off being a team. Plan A, B, and C is get the ball to Palmer and hope he does something that's not coaching. That is a hangover from having Messi Mbappe and Neymar in the same team in a far weaker league. Desperate unfortunate with injuries but this situation where a player gets injured and noone knows about a return date is ludacris. Spending the money we have spent we cannot complain about injuries, we have too many injury prone players; Reece Fofana Chilwell Lavia Ugovhuckwu Nkunku Adding two players in the same position (with the insistence of playing a double pivot) for over 100m each handcuffs us in team selection. When Chelsea would go 2-0 up for a long time we would be very confident of seeing the game out often adding to that lead. Now its more of a concern than anything personally. Im well aware we are very far away from the old Chelsea, a new club from top to bottom and this will take time. Good vibes amongst the squad with no tactical vision or improvement collectively or individually will result in failure in the premier league

  • I'm getting a bit fed up of this narrative: we win - things are changing and we need time - literally 4 days later, we draw - we are awful sack poch - next game we win and things are changing and give them time - we lose in the last minute to the league leaders in the 119th minute of a final - we are awful sack poch. Time is not the next game, time is 2 or 3 years. Can we please just calm down and support the team through this? We don't need our season analyzed after every game. We have trophies, we will be better soon.

  • Every time a team breaks on us, our shape and organisation goes out the window, every time we face a dead ball situation, it looks like we are going to concede, we struggle to break the lines, we struggle to retain possession in midfield, we struggle to get good chances on goal. We still have a bunch of players who are looking at other people to lead them rather than taking the initiative. Sure, the players are high quality, but they don't play as a team. Every single game this season, we have come out and played a worse 2nd half, substitutions are made too late to either make an impact or nullify opponent tactic changes. The players look knackered all the time, despite not having Europe. Not all of these problems are the managers fault, but he has an impact on all of them. Being outplayed by both Sheffield and Burnley is inexcusable. I've never been Poch out, but clearly, he is not the right person for this project.

  • This season has been a mess. The three things to remember is 1) We were coming off a horrible season and with a new manager. 2) Poch had good results in pre-season, and then injuries prevented him from taking the team he liked into the PL. Injuries this season have been catastrophic. And not just niggling injuries, long term. This has meant we've NEVER been able to field our strongest side. On the other hand, he's had a lot of time to work things out. We lack consistency and we can't defend. He keeps changing the line up. We need a keeper who is world class. We're actually scoring goals, but we need to score 4 to win because of the holes in defense. Also keep in mind, pre-season this time around is going to be short because of the Euro's. Didn't Poch have a two year deal coming in? I think they'll allow him under December next season before deciding.

  • Give him time to cook. I truly believe that, if Pochetinno remains as manager into the new season, we will be a massive threat to the top 5. Think about it the injuries, the stress and strain on the players, management, and us the fans. It's been one hell of a year for our boys and I do believe, given the chance, we will be better next season. If we are smart in the transfer window and allow the boys to build off what they have already accomplished and will continue to do so, build that chemistry even more I do believe naturally they will become better. I say let Poch stay, I do agree he's made some really horrible, tactical mistakes that have hurt us, but he has also made some really smart choices. Subs have come off the bench and changed the game for us in key games, we all know this. Lineups have been spot on when fighting big teams, just recall the performances. What I see is the individual issues with the players and staff that is hindering us. Players trying to be heros and fulfil a selfish agenda, not actually playing for the club. Individualistic errors like attackers failing to convert chances, midfielders giving up possession and making awful, gaming costing mistakes, defenders stumbling over themselves and each other that lead to goals conceded and keepers trying to flex and be heros that make some horrible decisions. All this leads to goals conceded and games lost. We can't say that pochetinno has to be sacked because we are doing shit on the table when it has literally been our players costing us the games. Love the content guys💙

At least now we have actual attacking play, goals from open play. What’s shocking is our defensive has taken 10 steps back under poch. Blaming injuries can only go so far when disasi is still making same mistakes. I don’t think the way we train our midfield and defensive makes sense because we’re constantly leaking goals from crosses and cut backs/lack of tracking.

  • A lot of people saying that we’re currently worse off than last year during Frank’s 2nd stint, and I think that’s harsh. Seems everyone has forgotten how absolutely appalling we were during the end of last season. Have we improved under Poch? Yes and no. Our attack has definitely improved, seems we have a knack for scoring the first goal more times than not. But our defense is in shambles and they seem absolutely broken. We have to take a serious look at who we have currently on the back line, what the coaches and manager are doing in terms of training the defense, and our squads mentality as a whole. We can’t get anywhere taking one step forward and then an immediate step back. Something’s gotta change, I just don’t know if it’s better to cut Poch now and start all over with someone new? Or give him more time to try and let these players gel?

Imagine if we get another manager with a new philosophy and that doesn’t work now we are changing another manager and for a 20 year old whose had 4 different coaches philosophies and have to kind of restart and hone in on new skills to train and perfect for a new system. I don’t think Poch is the long term answer, but for the development of these players I think we need to stick it out for next year. We have to remember we have changed everything from directors to the actual team. We have only 3 players from our UCL squad (just 3 years ago) all 3 of them have barely played. It’s up to these owners to get some experienced players who can calm the game down, our MF is very young and in experienced and other than Silva our defense is the same. It sucks that we had to revamp and start from scratch but this is where we are at. We will have to suffer for the next year and hopefully Poch can get these players up to or close to their price tags value and then we go get us a serial winner who can now take these players who are coming into their own.

  • Results havnt been amazing but only lost once in the last 11 games and that was the league cup final, possibly the two best players we have james and nkunku missing all season, fofana lavia missing all season, loads of other players fitness issues. Don't know what any fans expect to happen with all that going on and the youngest squad in the league

  • To be fair things could have been completely different if Poch could have had a full strength squad for at least half of the season we really need more experience and leadership in the team and its hard to blame that on Poch who I think has to be evaluated at the end of the season. On the other subject we have greatly improved our goalscoring but our defense has been awful.

Things are bad but ony side I' m much more happy in how our attack is better

  • Of course we are much worse if comparing the last season because last year were too many turbulent moments the club sacked 2 managers then appointed Lampard. Potter had no summer preparation with team and so many other issues have happened with the club and the team. There is no excuse for Poch at this time. I didn’t believe in him before and I didn’t believe he is able to make some good things for the team. We will lose semi to MC there is no doubt at all that

  • I have a hard time saying this, and I'm a big fan of his. But Pretrovich individual errors could be blamed for the Burnley and Sheffield losses. If we came in next season with a stronger back line with the same mid field and offense I think we could be back in the top 5. We need nkuku and Reese of the Bench as well.

  • Hey there lads!! :) hope all is well!! And I've been saying this for a few weeks now, but if our U21 squad were to play the 1st team...... I think they'd be in for a shock and humbling!! We have to at least give Poch until Jan. Unfortunately, with the way the season has progressed, we cant deny the argument to see what will happen with a mostly intact squad. It's hard to say what things will look like next season given the upcoming shenanigans we gotta get through. And the only thing to say of Poch is his game management is incredibly questionable!! Yes, the Noni sub v United worked out; but his subs at the end of Sheffield lead to the goal and a lot of his sub draw more questions than answers regarding timing and personal!! And playing Conor on the wing when we have Jackson and Misha there...... fucking hell..... I think I've just convinced myself that he's not up for the job, but we really have no choice. Watch us win the FA cup and then drop every game out....... we just need some consistency!!

  • I know this is an unpopular opinion but I think he’s improved us. Our defense is leaking goals but we don’t have a proper #1 GK, age finally caught up to Thiago, our first choice outside backs have been injured all season, best CB pairing of Fofana and Colwill injured. The attack on the other hand has done much better than previous seasons. One could find an angle to support any narrative. That being said, Poch’s subs and lineups are his undoing

  • I am poch in because if we sack him then we will need mabye a brand new play style which needed time so no. Chelsea performance under poch is still did a bit better than last season. I can see the main improvment this season is good result 4-4 man city,4-3 man united,3-2 newcastle, aston villa 3-1 and both win from crystal castle. And we got comebacks at last min we dont really see that a lot of time.

  • Our defensive frailties need to be highlighted. I have zero confidence in our defensive unit. How many clean sheets do we have? Which one of our players barig a forty you Silva actually has an airial presence. Almost every time a cross is played in our penalty area the opposition gets a chance. On the offensive end, I see it as pointless in us making Arial crosses.

  • Some individuals have imrpoved, but little to no improvement as a team. Two goals conceded, seven games on the bounce, and Pochettino hasn't shown any recognition that this is a problem that needs sloving, let alone changing things tactically to solve it. During the end of season meeting, where his future will supposedly be decided, other than mitigation about injuries etc, what positive case can anyone make for keeping Pochettino? What can anyone say about what he has done, that will make a reasonable argument for sticking with him?

  • I'm really disappointed at how bad it's been under Poch. However, in his defence, I feel he got no say over recruitment. We were led to believe that the club, during interviews, did their due diligence. Part of that would have been his history, philosophy, squad assessment and needs. I'm not saying the directors are poor, but I would say they seem to be acting on the extreme and without any consideration to want the manager wants. What's interesting here, is that despite this being a new Chelsea, it's got the old hang up of not backing a manager with the required signing. Conte had the same issues. Chelsea would have argued at that time that they got the right profile of player for him. However, the level of those players was terrible. Pochettino wanted an experienced spine to be brought in. We'll never know, but it would be hard to say he's not been undermined. I'll never understand not backing a manager, especially a project one, because eventually, no one wins. That being said, for a manager renowned for improving young players, he hasn't even managed that, which, for me, is unacceptable. The worry for me, though, is that we've been bad since Chelsea beat Juventus, under Tuchel, with multiple managers. Unless the directors work with the next manager, in a less extreme direction, we'll be here again. This could be dire.

  • Mate we tied the last two teams in the prem, one being against a 10 men team with more than half the game to go. Can’t really look past that. Look at the players look at the attitude. Lack of passion lack of accountability lack of discipline. How much lower do we need to go? Sad that I can’t be mad if we lose so that we can move on from Poch.
