I still can't believe that Spike was only meant to be a temporary character. I can't imagine the show without him.
Booked for 5 days of filming.
He was the Popeye of Buffy. Popeye was originally a guest character in the Thimble Theater comic strip, but was so popular they brought him back and eventually renamed the strip after him.
That's the power of charisma. Hell, on Breaking Bad Gus Fringe went from nothing background character to main antagonist because Giancarlo made him that compelling all on his own
I knew that he was but still found his style addictive masculinity plus British kindness asshole
Angel was also only meant to be a temporary character also
Spike is the BEST example of a redemption arc where the character doesn't completely lose their personality in the process.
I think the best part about his arc is that in a way he already had his humanity and it took him doing what he did to want a soul. His redemption wasn't about becoming a good person or even getting a soul it was about realizing he had already done that as he fell in love with Buffy. Spike honestly deserved his redemption and I think it was so beautiful and clever how they did it.
I'd argue Regina Mills/The Evil Queen from Once Upon A Time could rival Spike.
@@tokyodeathghoul2313 I second this. I went from hating Regina with a passion to wanting to destroy anything that dimmed that smile.
Bon acteur 👍
Jane Espensen, who was a writer on Buffy, eventually went to write on Once Upon A Time.
“Out.For.A.Walk. Bitch” has to be the best 👌🏼
YES YOU FEEL ME
if you watch interviews with James Marsters, he says that's his favorite line from the show.
Yes it is.
My new reply to people questioning me
It is my favorite line. And the fact that it’s the only line with a counting system to make sure you get it right.
I have never understood how someone could be so cool and so lame simultaneously. I love it!
Accurate af tho XD
Spike: Defeating the odds of our expectations constantly!
He plays an Englishman. Nuff said
i think part of it is because he was always just so unapologetically himself, he never cared if he seemed lame and that made him cool! That and the leather jacket definitely helps haha
That's why we love him. 100%. Even... *counts* 20 some odd years later.
The bit at 1:39 when Riley asks Spike "Don't I know you?" and Spike replies "No. No Sir, I'm just an ol' pal of Xanders here." His American accent sounds so bad. And yes, I know he's actually American in real life, but it's so funny how he managed to sound like an English guy doing a bad American accent.
It just proves that he's a great acter
they were actually going to make Spike a Texan lmao
HE'S NOT BRITISH??????
I'm so in love with spike
@@dotis9 That what she said.
As a brit I feel qualifier to say that he is one of the few Americans who can absolutely nail the English accent
Yup. We occasionally produce someone who can act as well as the British. LOL.
Agreed
HE’S AMERICAN???
@@Bmezzo1 - Yup. I know, shocking.
@@Bmezzo1 He's _"an uld pal'a XaNdUr'S heer"_
Best Spike line ever was when he was talking to Giles about his life flashing before his eye. "Cup of tea, cup of tea, almost got shagged, cup of tea..." such laconic delivery...
🤣🤣🤣 I literally made a custom “Out for a walk…b!tch” tshirt lmaooo
On the BBC, they cut the "almost got shagged" so he just said, "Cup of tea, cup of tea, cup of tea." Still works, though.
spike will forever be my favorite buffy character
Yeah. Mine too.
Have you seen in supernatural it must watch
He’s the best of buffy
Yeah he was easily the best character in the show. Always amusing.
He and giles... love em
Buffy line is so sarcastically funny "Giles Help, he's going to a scold me"! Lmfao
I know right
Sounded dirty lol
Giles! I accidentally killed Spike! That´s OK, right?
@@seanraines5871 To borrow Lindsey Macdonald's lookalike cousin Elliot's line, It's very distinctive.
If you didn't love Spike....Who am I kidding EVERYONE loved Spike.
Yes 👍
Wasn't keen on the part where he raped Buffy, so I can't say I love him. He has his moments
@@anotherloser2858 No one liked that part not even the actors who played Spike & Buffy.
@@aleena_dramaqueen Marsters had nightmares after that scene was done and went to see a therapist because of it.
@@LegoGBlok I read an article about that. It was hard for us to watch but for them I can only imagine. Joss Whedon really didn't give a damn.
Spike is easily the best character on the show. Most iconic look, most quotable/memorable lines, and an interesting arc that far exceeds any other characters. Love him.
💯
“Out. For. A. Walk………. Bitch.” Is my favorite Spike line ever. 🤣
Oh god...its Jesse Pinkman as a vampire
"what are you shocked and disappointed? i'm evil!!!!" this line has always had me rolling
Does anyone else feel immensely sad for people who've never known the magnificence of this character?
Yes
They’ve tried, but no character even come close to Spike 🙌🙌😍
I think Damon Salvatore comes pretty damn close I often think about how hilarious those two would be in the same room
@@MadoBruh ohhh 🙌 you’d be crying with laughter 🤣 I think Spike set the precedent for the “bad” guy that really a big softy! & there are several Spike scenes where I thought “God, that’s Damon” & several Damon scenes where I thought “God, that’s Spike” 💁♀️
Thoroughly convinced Spike could have had his own show..Loved Boreanaz but liked James much better
I feel Damon was a wannabe replica of Spike but without the funny.
kind of remind me of jack sparrow, lame and cool at the same time
Best scene ever is when he sees Buffy for the first time at the bottom of the stairs after she digs her way out of the coffin and he realizes it’s really her and not the Buffy Bot. Saw it real time back in the day and still cry now. Love him for her.
TOTALLY agree! Subtle things like a little head tilt or tiny facial movement showcase his amazing acting skills. In that scene you can see where me momentarily becomes mesmerized by Buffy before snapping out of it. He makes his feelings for her seem so authentic that I feel like crying too.
Just saw that episode for the first time today and thought my heart was gonna explode!
Spike was the most human vampire on the show! YES he was a murdering evil killer. From the beginning of the show he LOVED Drucilla even while being evil.
I know, I really hate how they went with his character arch making him try to force himself on Buffy. So dumb. Why couldn't she love him? Why did they have to make their love affair so dark and nasty? Shameful.
@@eeeeeeeeeevonne3897 That was Whedon being an ass. James Marsters says he hated that scene with a passion.
I love the one where Spike is speaking to himself and mocks Angel. This show was really fun to watch.
It is the "magnificent poof" part that always causes me to howl with laughter.
“To the Angelmobile!” 😂
haha he does that in the Angel series too in one of the first episodes i think
Love to expand the compilation into the "Angel" era. Nothing beats Spike fighting Muppet Angel and being really amused until Angel's fuzzy little fists start bringing the pain.
"No,not the hair...Never the hair"
I like how the idea of getting mauled by a bear is terrifying even to a vampire
The man that launched my obsessive attraction to tight black ts and blue eyes 😍😍
Same! Him and Damon Salvatore contributed to that lol
@@GossipVal1 my God yes... #lesigh, #swoon... 😍🤤
He started my love of platinum blonde hair/dark brows and eyebrow scars haha also bought two leather trench coats cuz of him
I know right
@@beajack4990I felt that in my soul lol
I loved Spike from day one. He was just himself and made no apologies for it.
I love how every time he’s tied up, his arms aren’t. 😂
Marsters is SUCH an underrated actor! An American who did British for years.
Maybe he should join Spinal Tap ?
It's hilarious to me that on Torchwood they had him play a Brit, while actual Brit John Barrowman played an American. And both of them totally nailed the accent.
@@jeremyfrost2636glad to see Jon Hart get some love he’s great
@@ladyredl3210 He is.
i love how he's annoyed at Buffy but still answers her like "Yes, it's me." 4:18
Well, that was simply perfect. Such a great character, for an undead he gave so much life to this show.
I never get tired of spike bursting into buildings on fire
BEST LINE EVER: Cuppa Tea, Cuppa Tea, Almost Got Shagged, Cuppa Tea!
Yes. Best line and best delivery. Funniest line ever.
thanks, I was looking for this comment 😂
My first thought was because Anthony Head did the Nescafé gold blend adverts in the 80s & was popular with the ladies because of it
how is no one talking about the brilliant editing to "another one bites the dust" in the first half of the video?? :'D
Right???? SO DAMN GOOD!!!!
true; the whole thing was en pointe. Great editing, excellent song pick. Just perfect.
Spike is a character that only got better and better each season... Absolutely love him... Shame that he and Buffy never really got a real chance in the show... :/
Never really got a chance??? All that sex; those arguements; the frisson of excitement? They had what I call a regular relationship. They made their own chance. Ever single time they could.
@@ValeriePallaoro Except buffy was using Spike in season 6 to "feel something." She didn't love him. Not until some point in season 7. Sure, They had a relationship in the sense they were sexually intimate, But she never gave him a real chance as her significant other, Not like when she and angel were together.
Well, I heard in the comics they ended up together
I felt conflicted about him when he, oh I don't know, tried to RAPE Buffy
@@ValeriePallaoro There was only one man Buffy truly loved and that was Angel. She loved Riley and Spike too in her own way but her heart belonged to Angel the entire time.
please spike carried buffy 😭 but anyways so many of his funny moments are with xander ✋ i love how comedic those two mortal enemies are
"*Smacks Xander upside the head*" "OW!" "OW!!" Wheezing
Before which he says. this so going to worth it!
I've never seen the coolest, sexiest, and passionate character is also a comic relief before Spike. He's cool and lame and likeable.
Spike is always gonna be one of my favorites even the show when it gets bad he’s always making a laugh
I also think him and drusilla should have stayed together I love dru to
@@hadleywest-parison7650 what about buffy? 🥺🥺🥺🥺
@@hadleywest-parison7650 Nah, he and Buffy should have gotten back together, the real deal
@@missymother he died for her aha, is that not real enough??
@@missymother bro he like, borderline rapes her towards the end, that would've been fucked up
Spike lifted this show into a new realm. The perfect actor meant the perfect on screen chemistry. He lifted some really awful (sad) scenes into something manageable.
That one sigh during the Ben and Glory scene was 10,000 words in a single breath 🤣 James is a God
Spike made the whole show worth watching
“You made a bear! Undo it! Undo it!” HAHAHAHAHA I gotta rewatch this show starting with only the spike seasons. Lol
Already rewatching it, and is almost finished with season 3. Some of the scenes in this video is from that season. :)
I don't remember him saying that line. I'll have to rewatch that episode

That scream at 0:51 when he falls off of the table💀🤣
I'm currently re-watching all 7 seasons of "Buffy" and Spike has always been one of my favourite characters! 😃
Me too! On Season 6 at the moment. First time rewatching since it ended and,it’s even better 2nd time around. I love the lack of technology, and she still saved the World numerous times 🤷🏻♀️ Next up is Angel and then Supernatural. My 3 favourite shows of all time. Will never tire of them and there’s always things you never got first time around or just forgot.
@@lourdesbaby964 I've finished re-watching the entire thing now! I bought all the seasons! 😄

Rewarching it again. 5th time around
@@jameswatsonatheistgamer I'm currently re-watching the entire "Buffy" series again! I even made a Buffy inspired video on my channel! 😃
Spike literally saved the show. The show started out slow and then spike saved it and it's now my favourite show of all time.
He, Dru, and Angelus being introduced is what elevated the show. Making interesting, nuanced villains rather than the ooooo they’re so evil villain like the Master.
The best part about this video is when he says I’ve always been bad and then it cuts to him asking for an alternative word for gleaming. ✨
I miss Spike. Every time I wander to a Spike video, it inspires a re-watch. *sigh*
spike is one of the reasons to love this series ... from villain to hero...he has a lot of humor and at the same time he has a depth that other characters don't have, he always tells the truth (good or bad) and then (which is not secondary) he is really charming with his blue eyes and leather jackets
The "Five words or less" bit at 3:30 is one of the best burns in history.
I believe he said in an interview that from the first moment he shot with S.M.G that he aimed at making chemistry and a sexual vibe between them. I believe, besides being a fantastic actor, that it was this chemistry and connection that between Spike and Buffy that kept him on the show beyond the 5 episodes and then grew to a full fledged relationship between these two characters. This video is fantastically funny. Reminded me of how great the material, acting and directing is.
He said several times that he wanted to make an impression to get the 10 episodes and to have the chance to be cast in a next show. He never expected so much love from the fans. He and Drusilla played a bit in the casting and it was kept for the show, because it was different and amusing.
" I am evil!"...."Do you have those little marshmallows?" omg :D This is awesome, it totally made my day :D
Spike was the reason I love Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Agree 100% It was ok show before he showed up
@@joimumu Yeah. He brought the comedy.
How can anyone not love this guy?
The reasons why I love Spike. His humor
I watched the show every week to see Spike. He was my favorite character and he made the show. It would not have been as good without him.
" I wasn´t lurking. I was standing about. It´s a whole different vibe." 😂😎
James Marsters (Spike) is a true talent! If you love James Marsters and you've never read "The Dresden Files", you owe it to yourself to listen to them on audiobook. He's the best audiobook narrator I've ever heard, and I've heard a lot. You will fall in love with the series via his masterful, whimsical, and at times hilarious portrayal of the characters.
I love The Dresden Files and James Marsters, but audio books and I do not get along. I find I don't listen and then have to rewind for a half hour. I'm better off with actual books, which right now is bumming me out.
@@kathleen109 I spend about two hours in the car commuting during the week. I find it's a great way to pass the time.
He also did a great Lex Luthor.
@@kathleen109 in that case maybe try the audio books of the ones you have already read as background for chores or stuff like that, my friend had a similar problem with audiobook attention but because they already knew the stories said they were great as something to zone in and out of
you are doing a grand public service there mate, more people need to experience those. I don't know if Dresden files would have become my favourite book series without james marsters fantastic job on the audiobooks, i like to think they still would but its impossible to know. I do know that the picture in my head for dresden has always been just james marsters as a wizard P.I. and I am not complaining he suits it perfectly :D though it did make the tv show rather jarring even if i do really like paul blackthorn too (who they may have chose based entirely on the fitting name)
Highly underrated actor To go from one extreme to the other, sometimes in the same shot, that takes true talent.
He's such a big... bleached... stupid... guy, and I love him for it ❤︎
He is Harmony's blonde bear
Spike became the reason why I have issues with the men I'm attracted to. I want a Spike but there's no comparing. It's a problem. I love this chaotic cool disaster
You need help
@@jonathanpov72 I sure do, wanna help me, daddy?
"I'm not lurking, I'm just standing about - it's a whole different vibe" lololol
I love Spike he is my number one favourite character on Buffy. So glad that Joss Whedon kept the character. He went through so many emotions to being Dru's little lap dog to fall in love with Buffy. I never saw that coming. So glad he was resurrected
"You made a bear! Undo it!" Always loved that line :-D Ah Spike. There's only one so... effulgent!
White haired vampires always get me Spike and Astarion 🤩
“out for a walk…. bitch” is the MOST iconic line
James Marsters really made spike a memorable character.
When he was helping Giles who turned into a demon and riding Giles’ car together was one of the funniest scenes of Spike and Giles 😂🤣
Giles getting out of the car to chase Professor Walsh is one of my all time favorite scenes.
No,the Dracula episode. When they were at Dracula'd house and Giles fell to the basement and all those vampire women got all over him. And at the end when they were leaving, Xander said he was tired of being everybody's butt monkey. And Riley said "at least you weren't making out with the vampy babies , like Giles". And Giles looking embarrassed said "I was just about to killed those loathsome creatures". And Riley said "what were you gonna do, nuzzle them to death"🤣🤣🤣
"Out for a walk, bitch" and the Angel monologue are my favorites of his, well, his snarky side. My main favorite is his speech to Buffy telling her why he loves her, how she tries 🥰. I love Spike. James Marsters did such an amazing job in that role. I watched his interview with Michael Rosenbaum (Lex Luthor!) and he talked about how JW slammed him into the wall because he was pissed that Spike had so many fans and JW did not want Spike to be a recurring character. Turns out it was the best thing that happened because we were all upset when he died so, of course, we were fighting for him to be brought back on Angel. 😎👍
I just realised how much Damon is like him.
The coolest vampire character ever: Spike, you are frickin' awesome.
Is it just me or is Spike overly accident prone even if it's just tripping over things? ROFL, bless his little vampire heart.
“rest in peace” is still my favourite musical number of all time
Omg his voice when he sings 🤤🤤
Excellent scene choices, and can I just say SUPURB job balancing the audio, to where both the song and the lines are clear.
Omg thank you, i always worry about that!

one word: ICONIC.

“You’re not even bumpy anymore!” 😂😂
I LOVE Spike! He made me laugh so much even when he was evil. He was good in Buffy...fantastic in Angel!
Not only is Spike a great character, James Marsters is like, the nicest guy!
Spike will forever be iconic
I love how as soon as he was inside, the light from the windows was no longer even a tiny little bit of a problem, but when he was in the car, it had to be blacked out to hell and back or he'd burn up. Thank you, Buffy logic.
actually that makes sense. unless he is standing or sitting directly beside a window the sun hitting it from above and going down at a diaganol angle and will not hit him. In the car he is very close to all the windows so when the sun is hitting it from a diagnol or directly onwards he is placed between the light and the ground. Test it out for yourself in case I am wrong but it makes sense to me. The sun will never hit a house directly from the side because of the other objects in the way (other houses for example) but an open road in a car has no such objects to block it
@@ForTheForsaken yeah but what about the light from the window in the door directly behind him?
@@Cinderspark9 hmm pretty sure he is smoking and sizzling most the time as he enters but I would have to look again haha
@@Cinderspark9 so i quickly rewatched the video, at the start he is beside the door window but the blinders are shut blocking direct sunlight, any specific time you were thinking of?
@@ForTheForsaken Not that i can think of now, but back in the day I remember several instances where he was near windows and nobody really noticed.
I loved Buffy And Spike as a couple. They were so much more fun to watch than her and Angel for sure.
Omg this is why Spike is everyone’s favorite.
This makes me really want rewatch btvs for the (I’m not sure how many) time
So glad they kept him! And just when you thought he was gone he pops up in Angel💜. He was a better man than Angel and a better vampire. While Angel wanted to redeem himself for himself, Spike wanted to redeem himself for Buffy 💜
That actor + those scriptwriters = lightning in a bottle. Spike may be the objectively best series character ever created.
Spike was the best part of the show loved him sooo much!! 😍❤️😍
spike was the best character. hands down.
The Ben/Glory thing is just pure gold !!! 🤣🤣
