  • I think the way to think about p4p is just in terms of skill gap between one fighter and the other fighters who weight the same as them. Because it’s skill per pound. The reason you don’t just say who’s the best fighter is because presumably a heavier fighter would beat a lighter fighter of equal skill so p4p exists to find who is the most skillful fighter relative to their weight.

    • @james bond I appreciate you being honest and having integrity in your thinking. I agree with you that being caught with steroids is an automatic disqualification from the GOAT discussion. While I agree with the statement that most ufc fighters are on some kind of steroids, you have to give everyone the innocent until proven guilty approach. It’s completely ludicrous and irrational to exclude someone because you feel they look like they might be on something. But because of being fair and not judging someone till they pop, we must be harsh to those who get caught. It’s as you said, it’s absolutely disgusting to go in there with DC when he could have won with his natural physical gifts alone. It’s even worse once you remember that the fight was canceled the first time because Jones popped for steroids. The man is a disgusting human being who has yet to acknowledge or take accountability for his action. In a tier behind that I’d put guys like Stipe, Cejudo, Aldo, Ngannou, Volk, Usman. But as for right now those top 7 are in their own tier imo.

  • Robert touches on a great point. Pound for pound is designed to just punish heavyweights. He mentions Tai not looking as skillful as lower weight fighters. The Marks in MMA "journalism" have their favorite fighters and its an inconvenient truth for them that a less athletic looking fighter like Tai or Derrick, could fuck up all their favorite fighters at the same time. So you create "pound for pound" and pretend your favourite is actually the best fighter. Even better, despite calling it "pound for pound" they totally ignore fighters like Fedor or Stipe who weigh in well below the limit of their division and fight significantly heavier opponents, thereby truly championing the concept of pound for pound. Instead they are considered inferior fighters to the likes of Khabib or Usman who on the contrary only ever face lighter opponents.

  • "In the fair dinkum stakes" Alex was at Welterweight/LW for five years and after being knocked out at Welterweight he thought he would go down to LW and be a weight bully. After a few fights he went down to FW to be a weight bully. Aussies have a short memory, this is a welterweight who ran away from his division after losing and now you make out he is some small FW moving up. Don't let the facts get in between a good story.
