Is The Fall Guy a Bad Sign for Summer? - Charts with Dan!
The summer movie season kicks off this weekend with The Fall Guy. I do my best to predict the future of the impossibly unstable theatre industry to find the ten highest grossing movies of the summer.

Blunt and Gosling not being able to cash in on the Barbenheimer hype is almost the same thing that happened to Tom Cruise with MI Dead Reckoning after TG Maverick.
Its for the same reason. MI Dead Reckoning got decent reviews, but nothing spectacular. Same with Fall Guy People are more careful how they spend their money and time. If its not a wow must see movie, just wait for streaming
@@aliali-ce3yf MI Dead Reckoning poor box office has nothing to do with the movie quality, it was ruined by Barbenheimer hype and Nolan's 2-3 week IMAX exclusivity deal, because for them Nolan was more important, he's using IMAX cameras and always promoting them.
Not a good comparison. Dead reckoning had a much better opening weekend.
Nah, they’re not really alike at all. Dead Reckoning would’ve done well had Paramount not released it immediately before Barbenheimer.
I hope it becomes a sleeper hit because man, Fall Guy was so good!
Completely agree!
No, it wasn't.
I don't think actors in general anymore are box office draws. People go for spectacle and hype these days, not personalities.
Don’t get me wrong I blame studios for killing theaters and conditioning audiences to just wait for it on streaming. But I’m so exhausted of hearing regular non movie going people say they want “good” original movies and then not going to see them.
Or maybe generic action comedies just aren't what people consider "good?" I know I have zero interest in it.
Exactly. There are plenty original movies coming out, but no one sees them, and then they sit and complain that everything’s a remake or a sequel.
Yeah, I share both of those sentiments. I think they saw the shiny, new streaming business and never thought about how that could be profitable for big-budget, or even mid-budget, films. They made the gap between theatrical release and streaming release way too short. Additionally, the average theater experience is nothing special for the price. I'll pay those high prices but make it something more enjoyable than me sitting in my home. Original films really are a hard sell to people now. Unless there's huge marketing hype, I can't even get friends to see something that isn't attached to a known property. I think that's also largely because people have been conditioned to that being what film is, a continuing series of stories about a known set of characters. Studios were able to get away with that business model when most of the blockbuster IP films were opening huge. Even a lot of critics were oblivious to the fact that it was a boom-and-bust business model that wouldn't sustain the industry long-term. And so, here we are.
The Fall Guy is neither good or original though so nope
@@dagrimmreepahow can you say the movie is generic if you haven't seen it? This is the problem, audiences judge before watching a movie and don't give them the chance to prove otherwise, so studios stick with IPs that work until the public gets exhausted and move on to the next one
This is the kind of movie they should put out in January and February, when I'm actually looking for things to do on the weekend.
Agreed, I saw The Beekeeper then. This would have been a nice double feature ☺️
I saw the movie (the Fall Guy) this weekend and loved it. And it is definitely something meant for the big screen.
Same! BUT I agree with Dan’s review: the script could have been better.
@@kstepkodefinitely tighter…. (And clearly that isn’t meant to be a pun…Ryan’s plenty tight. Lol)
I saw it on theater too and it reminded me of more normal times. Wasn't crazy about the movie but it was fun and enjoyable and certainly the type you go see in theatre. I'm not one for theaters but got out for Dune 2, Challengers and now Fall Guy. It's good to be back!
I agree with the sentiment about the 80s TV opening sentiment, but I don't think most people knew that The Fall Guy was based on an 80s TV show, and they were solely expecting the opening based on star power
I was born in 1982, so I don't remember many TV series from the 80s. I would only know them if they were in syndication and appealed to me when I was older. I only vaguely remember shows watched with my parents as a child. Matlock; Murder, She Wrote; The Wonder Years, Golden Girls.
Star power and lots of marketing. I'm tired of this movie before it even came out.
Yeah even the trailer felt tired 😂😂
I used to watch the TV series back in it's original release run, and it didn't even click that this movie was related to the series. The series was entertaining enough _at the time_, but not enough to elevate it anywhere near being a classic 80's series - I'd mostly forgotten about it until Dan mentioned last week about the connection.
@@Thermalions Agreed. The trailer also looked like much more of a goofy comedy than I remember the series being.
Dan. My man. You made a near 2 hour opus on Godzilla/Kong films & not a soul that mattered complained. For folks like me, the Danimals, consider this required viewing. If you make it, we will come. Appreciate you. 🙂
Crazy to think that Blade Runner 2049 made more opening weekend than the Fall Guy!!
Also costs like 35M more and it’s a sequel to a cult classic
The original Blade Runner has a lot more awareness and more fans than an old 70s TV show that much fewer people are aware of.
No it isn't.
That's crazy
Bladerunner had cult status that is part of pop culture. Fall Guy is obscure. But I wasn't aware of old series that were made into movies that I did like when they came out. I am thinking of Mission Impossible. I think there are a few others, but Mission Impossible is one of the biggest movie franchise.
People seem to forget that with a very minor exception, the name of the game has become all about I.P.'s and franchises for massive opening weekends. Actions films that were highly rated like John Wick, Dredd, Mad Maxx Fury Road, Edge of Tomorrow and Looper all opened to under $50 million.
The promotion just isn’t that interesting. Nothing stand out about it
GxK has been such a wonderful success story to see on the heels of Godzilla Minus One. Two very different approaches to Godzilla and both are working.
Godzilla minus one is successful because the actors are cheap and labor in japan is more cheap compare to us. The other solution is Hollywood must focus on talented bit not popular actors so the budget is not that big.
As a Godzilla fan I'm m so happy for GxK. I have seen it 3 times. I agree it's great to see both the fun and serious takes on it do well!
@@carloconopio6513 Those are not the sole reasons Godzilla Minus One was a success. Godzilla is a popular character, the movie was very well-received, and simply saying the cost is cheap while giving no credit to the efficiency or talent of the filmmakers is reductive
By some miracle, but more due to quality of story and FX, Godzilla Minus One, which was supposed to be a non-factor, ended up helping both itself and the Monsterverse version. And I hope we get both type of "smart" Godzillas in the future. It will be interesting, that with the extra time period having to wait for streaming, if people will simply jump up and buy the hard media, and also check out Minus One even more, when it's finally released, probably on Netflix in the US.
Fall Guy looks really good but it also looks like a movie I can wait to see at home. I think the issue is that most people are tired of paying top dollar to find out if they'll actually like a movie especially when there's so much to watch on streaming. Going to theaters just isn't what it used to be
The one thing that people seem afraid to mention is this…people are just not as interested in specifically just Movies anymore as a form of entertainment. We have TV Shows & Video Games now competing and arguably more popular as a whole and matching them for quality, and with the amount of them in a marketplace flooded with content, for a movie to truly hit and force people to go out and see it then it has to either be truly outstanding or be tied to a famous IP, or be a popular family movie that can bring in all demographics. The movie business is not as special as it once was.
agreed, as a teenager in the 90s and then a young adult in the 2000s, going to the movies on a weekend was a popular pastime for those agred 15-25. These days, this same age bracket are more likely to be playing the latest videogame or checking out new tic-tok vidoes (unless it is an even movie like Dune or Mario). Given the cost of living has also rose astronomically since then, I dont blame young people for not going to the theatre as much either.
I didn't even know The Fall Guy was based on a TV show
Took my wife on Sunday and we loved it. Most fun we had at the movies in a very long time. Problem was, she had no idea what it was, essentially going into the movie blind. For a RomComTion movie that she we would be interested in, marketing failed to reach her.
the only legacy Tv show to movie franchise that has worked is mission impossible
There was a missed opportunity here for a guy cinematic universe chart(free guy, fall guy, nice guys, other guys) u really need to know how the fall guy stacks up against other guy related cinema!
I think due to the success of BARBIE people forgot that while really liked, Ryan Gosling has never been a BOX OFFICE DRAW.
Think the better phrasing is that Gosling has never really been one to lead big budget (100M+) movies. Blade Runner 2049 was his only leading role in a big movie. Barbie was supporting.
@nms7872 but hes got plenty of other mid budget movies that flopped too.Gangster squad, The nice guys, First man.Hes just a great actor who seems like everyone likes but nobody pays to see
The same thing applies with Margot Robbie
Besides maybe a few people like Leonardo DiCaprio or The Rock, movie stars are no longer the "box office draw" they once were. You need several different factors to drive people out to the theaters these days.
I've been watching Ryan for decades but I don't have a reason to see him in The Fall Guy. It doesn't seem interesting. Maybe I'd see him in a serious action movie, but not another obscure 80s remix.
Down for moving the show to Monday to help the channel grow. And yeah, updates on numbers can be added to shows down the line.
"I've got a GREAT idea: Let's make a movie about a stunt man (you know, the people whos job it is to stay unnoticed) based on a forgotten 80s TV show." "Say no more, here's $125,000,000!" ... "Nobody is watching our movie." "WHAAAT?"
I think The Fall Guy opening to $28M would've been fine it the production budget was not that high, $130M for an action/comedy movie is kinda too much.
That was too expensive for a movie like this. I honestly think studios need to make more mid budget movies.
@@GuyLovesMoviesbecause the actors are expensive. Plus too many reshoots. Thats the problem of Hollywood today.
An interesting thing I heard in the theater for TPM was how every time Padme changed outfits it got a reaction. There was a group of little girls in front of me that kept saying "pretty" & "I love that dress". Some women about my age mentioned how they forgot how many dresses Padme had. This got me thinking about how as a kid I wanted, like, all of Padme's outfits. Maybe if Lucas Film wants girls to like Star Wars they should take some fashion advice from the prequels. Honestly, I MISS when Star Wars had fantasy outfits! I want to feel like I'm on an alien planet not like some LARPers are on screen!
Right? When I was little, TPM was my fav because of the costume design!
I didnt really notice until i read your post but you are right, boy are the female leads for star wars dressed super drably. They all wear utilitarian, borderline monochromatic formless outfits. That purple haired chick and Leia from the last Jedi are the only unique costumes i can think of off the top of my head.
Where I live, it can no longer be denied that the theatrical experience is nearing its end. It’s doing fine in higher populated areas on the fringes of the country but everywhere else it’s struggling. And honestly, the experience has become so poor that genuinely watching stuff at home is preferable. This is a growing sentiment
It's crazy that movie theatres don't just step their game up and provide a better experience for people...unless they're just THAT cash-strapped
Somewhere in hell a snowball is melting. Dan is using estimates.
Love that you use the Japanese posters for monsterverse movies
Charts with Dan... come for the box office, stay for the extended vocabulary... Trepidatious is an adjective that means feeling apprehension or trepidation. For example, "Within a couple of minutes of coming ``on stage'' she had an immediate rapport with the studio audience, discussing with candor what sort of questions they might have, and had the whole session in hand and us trepidatious panelists at ease". LOVE IT!
If you adjust for inflation, The Phantom Menace had a total opening weekend across the three total releases of $127,289,943. Adjusted for inflation… 1999: $88,523,591 2012: $30,686,352 2024: $8,080,000
When you're a studio executive and you see that 'TOP 5 2024 3-DAY OPENING WEEKENDS (DOMESTIC)' chart so loving crafted by Dan Murrell, respected internet movie statistician, how can you not sit back in your $10000 chair and say, "Yup. More sequels, please." Audiences will tell you what they want. Studios know better.

And Leitch directed John Wick, but due to DGA rules, he only received a producer credit
Happy to have charting back on Mondays. It just feels right to discuss the box office on Monday :)
I also blame Netflix for The fall guy failure. Netflix has completely turned these types of films into “steaming” movies. Audience can’t see them has anything else. People saying Hollywood is dead….a bit exaggerated, it’s these movies that dead on the big screen
This. There is very little about the Fall Guy that argues I should see it in theaters vs. in the comfort of my own home. Dune and Godzilla have features that make it worthwhile to see them in theaters and Kung-Fu Panda is a fun family outing. Theaters are so expensive that I want the film to merit that expense in some way.
Agreed
I thought it was missing the steam! lol
@@annekeener4119 I think any movie is better in the theaters because watching movies in the "comfort of my own home" honestly sucks in comparison. Too many distractions and harder to engage. But yes, this movie does look like a generic streaming movie, even if it isn't.
No, not really. It's the cost of going to the theater. Netflix is an option, not a cause.
We really enjoyed The Fall Guy and, honestly, only went because of Gosling. So there you go! You'll see our two tickets in the worldwide gross, ha (UK).
About the start of the summer movie season moving up from Memorial Day to the first weekend in May . . . Marvel's habit of releasing big MCU films on the first weekend in May, in large part to coincide with Free Comic Book Day, may not have started the above trend, but I suspect it definitely solidified/accelerated it.
I have never heard of this. Thank you. You learn something new every day.
That does make sense. They also seem to like releasing films on Comic Con weekend.
I don't blame Disney anymore for not experimenting and using old IPs. If people aren't gonna show up for a genuinely good movie, what would give Disney any confidence? It's like people only want to go to theatres for glorious movies like Dune and Oppenheimer or else you need an extremely good word of mouth and marketing to get money.
You could argue those are already strong IPs. Dune sequel/remake. Oppenheimer riding on the Nolan name.
@@thedarkemissary Yep, Oppenheimer even if it was really good but by a different director would either a taken a long time for word of mouth or people word of heards its good and been like ill check it out when I can rent it
@@thedarkemissaryOppenheimer was riding on Barbie.
The only new concept movies that seem to get attention are either A24 movies or horror movies in general.
We live in an age where thanks to streaming services, you can watch a new movie or tv episode every single night and never run out of new content. At the same time, ticket prices are as high as they've ever been and people are struggling to pay the bills. This is not a good time to spend 100 million dollars or more on a new IP. I'm not sure why they thought people would flock to see a rom com in theaters enough to break even.
I think people need to start coming to terms with the fact that movies are not the superior form of entertainment any longer. Younger people don't seek out movies or look to movies like they used to. There's tiktok, youtube, podcasts, etc... I'd even go as far as to say that movies are slowly becoming an "old person's" form of entertainment much like theater has been for decades.
If that's the case than they should start making movie's for old people then, Without all that political Bullshit pc crap, But they aren't even do that, so not even old people are going to the theater's either, so for who are they making this kind's of movies for?????
Fall Guy is exceptionally funny. I went last night, and it was one of the few movies where people were laughing out loud in the cinema!
Dan, I just want to say I appreciate you. Your commitment to continue to make this show for fellow numbers nerds like me is an absolute blessing. Thank you for another fantastic episode. All your hard work in compiling all this info, filming the show, and editing it all together to get this out in the new time slot is an insane amount of effort. And it does not go unnoticed. Thanks again and I hope you have an incredible week :)
Switching back to Mondays is a great move, rooting for you, Dan!
These are the biggest summer openings within the past 15 years btw: #1 Avengers Endgame: 357M #2 Avengers Infinity War: 257M #3 The Avengers: 207M #4 Avengers Age of Ultron: 191M #5 Doc Strange Multiverse of Madness: 187M #6 Captain America Civil War: 179M #7 Iron Man 3: 174M #8 Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 2: 146M #9 Iron Man 2: 128M #10 Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 3: 118M
I waited until today (Tuesday morning CST) to watch this. Otherwise I'll be confused as to what day it is all week.
The problem with The Fall Guy is not the quality of the film or anything I think it mainly has to do with the fact that the budget is so big! Why is the budget for a movie like that almost at superhero movie budget type levels? I also think that the marketing doesn’t do as well to give people an idea as to what the movie is about. Even I believe they did a decent job marketing it. A movie like Fall Guy wasn’t going to make $100 million opening weekend.
Man you knocked it out of the park. The budget is way too big we’re talking about a 100 million dollar plus romantic action comedy. That’s way too much.
The budget probably went to all the big practical effects and stunts.
@@alexp601 it most definitely I would say in terms of a good portion probably paid our two main leads so that could be around maybe $10-$20 million right there. Or $5-$10 million might be better. I’m not sure if this movie was in production during Covid so there might be some added costs there and yeah I would agree that a lot of the action does add the cost too. Jokingly, I wonder how much they paid all the studios for the first opening five minutes of the movie because if you’ve seen the movie, you know that they use footage from other movies with stunts that are owned by other studios I think.
The problem is that all the press for this movie is 'THIS IS A MOVIE, COME SEE IT' there's no hook other than MAYBE you like Gosling. No boobs, blood, relevant IP or controversy to drive people to see it.
@@geoffnaggie961 I think they could have pushed the stunts angle. Hype up how this film does so many practical stunts, and focus on how it’s a love letter to good old fashion Hollywood stunts and action. That’s one of the things that really stood out for me while I was watching the film.
I have faith the show quality will stay the same or improve.Don't listen to the negative nancies.
Saw The Fall Guy this weekend and I do hope it picks up as word of mouth spreads. It may not be a perfect script, but the action and stunts are too much fun to see it sputter out like that.
Oof, these charts do not give me a lot of hope for a super successful summer box office. I think Furiosa and Deadpool & Wolverine will be hits, but not sure other movies will not be so lucky. Hollywood needs to get their budgets under control
I saw FG on Friday night at 7. The theater was only a quarter full. So I'm not too surprised with it's low opening number. However, most of the SW screenings in my area were 90% full or sold out. So I was expecting it's number to be higher. Also loved the BO Flashback (and glad it's back).
A shame that Fall Guy was put in this position, great movie but definitely not the type you kick off the summer season with. Also, that second place spot for The Phantom Menace is a much needed headlines win for Disney.
Stupid people watch tv
Although that film (I know it’s NOW owned by Disney) comes from filmmakers that have nothing to do with Disney and from 1999. Lol
With more people are stuggling with higher rent, mortage repayments, food, gas etc, cutting down on going to the theatres is an easy choice. when there is so much movies and shows on streming that people are already paying for. The exeception is event movies like Deadpool that people will go out to see.,
Maybe so but there’s gonna be a movie this summer that does 10 times better in the box office then the fall guy so I’m not so sure that’s the case
Streaming for free? Yes, but actually no, you still have to pay for conforming to their service/s.
@@ras_732 True, but you just pay a fixed amount / so you would not be paying extra to watch any given movie one friday night, verses paying $20 + concessions etc to see 1 movie at the theatre.
@@kennytesta9312 agreed, the likes of Deadpool and Wolverene, , will do very well, but this as an example of an event movie that people will leave the house to go and see. The problem is more people need to see the non- event movies for theatres to survivie.
I always enjoy these breakdowns, Dan! Thank you for putting all of your time and effort into these videos.
Let's just accept the fact that theatrical releases are a sunset industry. It's just like the music industry about two decades ago. We will never go back to the heyday of blockbuster earnings. This is an inevitable fact. The younger generation aren't interested in cinema releases, especially with the price of watching a movie in theaters, when they can just wait to watch it online, or play video games.
🎯
It's a shame because the Fall Guy is a fun big screen movie. Once music became easily and commercially first downloadable and then streamable, I drastically cut down how many full albums I bought in CD/LP/Cassette form. I didn't have to gamble $14.98 to get two songs I liked and hope there were four or five others I would enjoy.
We saw it Friday and loved it, we are going back this week to see it again. I hope word of mouth puts more butts in seats and this movie ends up bringing in a good haul.
Happy to watch on either day Dan! Whatever grows your channel!
I’ve seen The Fall Guy twice now once in Imax and once in 4DX and had a blast with it. I also remembered the 80’s TV show (been having the theme song stuck in my head) and the original Metalstorm that they’re spoofing in the movie as well as Miami Vice (which had a reboot too that Michael Mann directed as well). But I also saw with younger people who didn’t know any of those things so it didn’t matter if it was a remake because it was new to them. The tastes of movie goers has changed so much and segmented that it’s impossible to predict what will be a hit. Also spectacular stunts which used to wow audiences before don’t seem to impress people much anymore because of the frequent use of digital stunt doubles. No one can hardly tell the difference now which may put stunt artists out of work sadly just as they are fighting to be recognized at the Academy Awards.
Great show as always! Thanks, Dan!
Really makes you think how much better the box office would be doing if the strikes hadn't delayed Deadpool out of it's original May release date.
Deadpool & wolverine and furiosa will do huge numbers. The fall guy coming out the same week as kingdom of planet of the apes doesn’t help either.
I think Furiosa will flop They should have kept Theron and Hardy.Word of mouth not good from Sydney premiere

Its looked fun but I can wait for streaming. If its not an event film or something Im dying to see im just gonna wait
That seems to be the new reality for the movie industry, people will just wait for streaming, or just skip it completly, as there is so much choice on streaming.
People's budgets are stretched thin and frankly, going to the movies has gotten too expensive.
Luvin Charts with Dan! Thanks Dan!

Thanks for streaming update dan, will keep eye out.

Glad to get Charts earlier!
Monday or Tuesday, doesn't matter to me. I'll be watching.
The entire fam and I went to see this opening day to kick off the summer movie season and really enjoyed it! However, I don't understand why this had to have a $130 million budget. It's almost like we're stuck in a time loop of studios setting themselves up for failure, and then blaming the audience when the movie doesn't live up to box office expectations.
Can't wait till people ask why the budgets for Joker Folie a Deux and Gladiator 2 are so high later this year.
Why are we always focus on directors and not on scriptwriters? It would be interesting to see how writers do since not all directors write their movies. 😅 And we have seen mediocre visuals be saved by good scripts, and vice-versa.
With Star Wars and the spidey movies making money after 20 plus years, it shows that audience are more interested in seeing older movies in theaters than new movies
Nice seeing this on a Monday
Great show as always, Dan! I believe in you
Charts on a Monday! What a treat!!
I was surprised how much I enjoyed The Fall Guy!
Great idea to move to Mondays Dan!
I have just watched The Fall Guy and it was so much fun. Sure, it’s not groundbreaking outside of stuntmanship (that insane world record!!), but it doesn’t need to be. The action is great, the cast is a extremely charismatic and the script is good enough to fill in the blanks. A solid summer blockbuster. It had the most important thing: great energy. Everyone seemed to really want to be there and it just felt fun. I hope it will have some legs as word of mouth works its magic!
people are way overthinking this... the movie flopped because the premise wasn't a box office draw. that's it. it's that simple. it's being marketed like a rom com and those usually don't draw big bucks
Every movie studio " What are we going to do? How do we get people in theaters?" Legendary Pictures " Are you guys not making money?"
I'm going to be rooting for the Star Wars Episode 1 Re-release to stay on the Summer list as long as possible.
The Fall Guy looks great but it also looks like a streaming movie so I'm not surprised people aren't rushing to see it. The marketing was also pretty horrible. Its like Hollywood forgot how to market a movie without either giving it all away or hiding too much information.
It sad that these kinds of movies are being called „Streaming movie“ nowadays… It‘s like saying „True Lies“ looks like a Streaming movie.. You can blame Hollywood as much as you want but the audience is also kinda the problem why those movies aren‘t even made today because the audience only see mostly IP movies as worthful movies to watch at the cinema
Having seen The Fall Guy on the IMAX, this is definitely not the so-called "streaming movie".
Hey Dan, I wonder if the price of going to the movies has anything to do with waning audiences. I seem to remember going to the movies was a lot cheaper and now, even when I want to go, I sometimes can’t because tickets are super pricy. Around my social circles, going to the movies is no longer “something to do on any Saturday” but something you plan for. For instance, I wanted to see Challengers and Fall Guy but couldn’t go this week cause it was too much money. It’d be cool if you talked a little about this.
So glad I booked a ticket for the following Tuesday.
Stop making expensive movies.
Does anyone still think Gosling can open a 130 million dollar movie that doesn't have an IP attached to it? This movie should have cost 80 million.
This is the issue. People will moan that all we get are marvel movies and then ignore a movie like this. I'll never forgive the public for making the Nice Guys a financial flop aswell, another ryan gosling movie
Yay charts!
Looking forward to seeing how the summer box office shakes out!
It’s not that movie theaters are necessarily dead, but in this economy I don’t think it’s feasible for a lot of people to go to the movies every week. I don’t blame Dan for not getting political about it (because I certainly don’t want to either), but it’s the truth. I just can’t afford to go often.
Plus the TV and sound systems have improved and watching stuff at home is more comfortable. So most people just show up for the big events movies or concerts
Just out of curiosity, is the $20-25 a month for the unlimited services places like Regal and AMC offer still too much? I'm genuinely curious and not trying to judge. I go to movies all the time because of it; it's actually way cheaper than most activities since they cover the cost of the tickets. So the argument of "movies are too expensive" seems odd to me, but I go to *a lot* of movies so I understand that I might be biased and others might not see as much value in it if they really don't care all that much about movies. I am also one singular human being without kids, so there's also that.
@@32fps Yeah, I didn’t want to mention it, but I do have kids. Lol. So, I have less time than I did before and when I do have time, we’re watching Kung Fu Panda 4 in the theaters. Lol. I don’t know if theaters still offer those memberships. I imagine they still do, but not every family has the time to go either.
@@32fpsyeah, with AMC A-list, you get up to 12 movies a month for the price of 1 or 2 tickets… service fees are waived, and you get reward points… (technically, it’s 3 movies a week, and the app can be buggy about it… the limitations tell me that A-list may not be a money maker for AMC… so frustrating because some weeks there might be 4 I want to see, but then nothing the next, lol) AMC doesn’t seem to promote A-list much, and you can’t get it for children as far as I know… so a parent is still paying big bucks, even if they have A-list… And maybe not enough movies are appealing to people to make $25 a month worth it, so A-list would effectively be like a gym membership for many… And AMC doesn’t let you pause without penalty… I think if you pause, you can’t resume for 6 months. Anyway, also curious why others don’t sign up for the theaters’ subscriptions.
I'm all in for monday!
It's your chanel, you do you. I'm perfectly happy with charts w/ Dan, Monday estimates
Great breakdown. The road to recovery- I like that
TIL Phantom Menace = Dan’s career 😅😅 Well you’ve come a long way, buddy, and once again- we r here for it 🙌🙌✊✊
While i love the cast, here are a few reasons I didn’t go see it: 1. It's advertised like a Red Notice. I was very underwhelmed with the first trailer that i saw, god knows how long ago. 2. It doesn’t appear to be anything like the TV show(which was probably bad, but i have fond memories of it. I haven't seen it since i was 9) 3. It's advertised like a rom com 4. I only recently found out it was directed by a stunt man and has almost all practical effects. 5. I live in the northern midwest and it was nice out this weekend. I have no interest sitting in a theater when i can be outside instead. 6. There are so many trailers for movies so far in the future, they are just noise at this point. I honestly did not know it came out this weekend. 7. While i like the cast and will check this out on streaming, they way it has been marketed, I'm not paying theater prices for it.
Great chart! I know the weekend where the perfect storm and the patriot premiered but can't remember the date. I know PS did good but not dure about TP
I'm curious as to when you'll do another "Streaming Charts with Dan" episode. We need to cover Rebel Moon.
You are the man Dan
The 80s live-action TV show adaptation list is interesting too, because there was a Mission Impossible legacy reboot with Peter Graves once again starring. Less than a decade later de Palma and Cruise would make the original MI. Also, my mind went immediately to Ninja Turtles live action movies when talking about 80s cartoons turned live-action.
I had thought about seeing fall guy in theaters, but the reviews including yours were mixed so I decided to wait for audience reviews, which have been pretty good. I might still go see it, I just finally went to see Ghostbusters 2 weeks ago ...
Fall Guy is not on the schedule at my theater this weekend. It is a regal cinema multiplex and they seem to be going all in Planet of the Apes. One week isn't really enough for a movie. Especially when there was severe weather over most of the country and you have life events like graduations, proms, communions.
The Fall Guy seemed like one of the few movies that would cater to mass appeal. I hope Kingdom of the Planet of The Apes and Furioisa perform better.
I blame Argylle. Very similarly marketed movie (romantic comedy / action) that people were excited about when the trailers first arrived that ended up being complete garbage. When I saw ads for The Fall Guy, I expected more of the same.
I would love it if you show the actual top 10 grosses in next week's Chart with Dan.
