Friends, today we need to talk about FNAF. I know that seems like the norm around here but today is a bit different. Things in the Five Nights at Freddy's community have been a bit hostile of late, it's hard to present an opinion, or a theory, without being attacked pretty heavily, and it's not just me thats feeling this. So let's talk about that because I think I know why this is happening.

  • I’m sad the fnaf community has become so hateful, to literally everyone. Every single theorist who tries to solve the story, the complicated lore, is automatically hated. I LOVE FNAF, but I dislike a large part of the fnaf community

  • What I love about this is how Matt's just been silently taking all the flak for so many years without caring, because he's an adult who's secure in himself and doesn't need random stranger's validation. But now that it's spreading to everyone else, NOW he decides to weigh in with a callout on the toxic side of the community. Idk, just something kinda wholesome about Dadpat suddenly taking action because this newer generation is being attacked. (but that's just a theory, etc., etc.)

The amount of both emotional and intellectual maturity that comes out of this man is off the charts, and the way he's able to present his case and his view of things is something I both see in myself and strive to be more like. Not to mention I love the goofiness at the end :P If it weren't for Matt, I never would have even given FNAF a second glance after the first game came out. • I think the problem a lot of the FNAF community faces is that it isn't always about being right. Sure, you've got your fair share of theories and timeline answers wrong in the past, but you had a blast crafting those ideas and I had a blast watching them, discussing them, agreeing with them, and even disagreeing with them. Too many fans are too worried about what is 100% right in the canon which is so hard to pin down even for Scott. They need to take a step back and learn to just enjoy the process. Its the same reason why I love breakdown videos of comic book tv shows and movies, the theory crafting of what COULD happen or COULD'VE happened not what DID happen or WILL happen.

    @franklinrapp6635@franklinrapp66355 ай бұрын
    • I think it is also a sign of the FNAF community changing. The series has been moving out of "niche horror game" and into "mainstream media" -- with that comes an audience that wants to be told a clear story, instead of a "these are the pieces that are correct.... for now"

  • This man has always been the definitive FNAF theorist… he’s put in an incredible amount of effort to predicting the future of the FNAF franchise. I don’t know how you could doubt that. I’d even say that he’s probably unknowingly written a significant portion of this franchise’s lore. The games are intentionally made vague, MatPat (and the rest of the community) make theories about them and then the developers pick which story they like best and use future installments to back it up.

Had a friend do it once - wasn’t pretty - we talked about it for years. And-and not only that, but, you’ll likely end up believin' something you shouldn’t believe or thinkin' something you shouldn’t think o-o-or assumin' something you shouldn’t assume, ya know? I love that many have been sharing such diverse ideas for this franchise, and that’s why it’s so fun. Even the non well constructed theories aren’t useless, you can analyse them yourself and make reverse arguments or use some things you haven’t considered before to keep on building. Hopefully we can theorise respectfully and keep building together instead. It’s enjoyable to see views different from my own, I want that, it’s fuel to the flame. It’s exploration, that’s what makes it fun, it’s experimentation.

  • I love watching theories, not because they could turn out right or wrong. Yeah, the feeling of satisfaction is nice and everything but I think seeing people's points of view and learning things that I didn't before and that is the best part. I could read the same series 20 times from different perspectives and still be happy because I saw something new, something I didn't notice before. That is why this fandom has been such a great place for me since I was younger, back before I even started watching theories and getting into the lore, watching different KZheadrs play the same game and still each get different easter eggs was wonderful for me. And then story-wise seeing different stories from the same characters was also fascinating for me, Hearing the theories, how the theorist got said theory, all that was my little safe haven. It's really upsetting to discover this part of the series but I hope theorists continue their wonderful work!

His theories are much more far-reaching and attempt to explain many more things about the lore than is confirmed canon, or even widely agreed upon by the fans. Also no, if you just take the games and books, very little lore is directly explained. Its like darksouls where you have to actively and intensely look for lore to make sense of anything. Also, the plot threads are scattered absolutely everywhere and it's a known fact that Scott makes most of it up as he goes. I really let out a confused laugh when you said it couldn't be more direct. Fnaf lore is inherently not direct because like I said, you have to look absolutely everywhere to make sense of it. Go watch matpat's lore summary if you haven't. Even taking out the more controversial claims, when you really look where all the plot structure is coming from is a huge hodgepodge from all sorts of things across all the games and books. But this is not the case. FNAF will, and always, remain ambiguous. It’s easy to see things from just one perspective, like having an s mindset, but if you want multiple perspectives, like an n mindset, you need to learn how to interpret it in every way possible, not just take one glacé and say “I’m done for the day”. If any theorist deserves to get hate, it would be the ones who don’t take any consideration for this franchise whatsoever, and so far, not one theorist including matpat have shown this. How do you think they get so popular!? Because they are careful. If you were a theorist, I would probably laugh out loud at how you can just “solve” this franchise with just a few dialogue lines. I've made my own timeline, and have just taken some theories that many others have proposed (MatPat included) along with my own theories and a few headcannons/charater studies. So, personally, I think we should just use these theories as starting points for our own so then we can come to the conclusion of what's canon ourselves.

All the haters should touch grass and maybe do more but I've watched most of your videos on game theories and I will say some are out there but still really fun to think about cause "what if" and theory's should be fun and mind opening and I must say I've loved the channel since the "Game Theory: Earthbound, The Dark Side of Mother". Love your work mat. 😊

  • Matt, I watched your videos in early high school. They captivated an entire Spanish class into not doing their class work. I have since gone and become a nurse, gotten married, and bought a house. Sometimes a theory is just a theory and if you just have fun with it and go with the flow and be open to change when more information comes, then it’s all fun we have along the way. Keep doing what you’re doing Matt. Keep making theories and sparking discussion whether right or wrong

I've learned to trust his word not only because his large team and trustworthy reasarch that gave him reputetion ,but also because he keeps showing and explaining his evidance even when his fans could belive him without this whole reaserch . What make him special is the fact he chooses to do the reaserch anyway for the love of everything with lore in it , even if he will have a cult of blind followers he will still treat his viewers as smart and skepticals human beings that can't be bought with influence opinion that easily , he is here to explore and he is honest about it .

  • There's one thing I will say that I have only seen RyeToast mention. In the first game news paper clippings say someone was arrested on suspicious of the first murders and eventually released due to lack of evidence. If this was Afton that would likely lead to his isolation and paranoia, especially if Henry turned him in. On the flip side, if Henry was the one arrested then that would have huge implications on their future relationship. Its hard to put the timeline in place but that would be such a huge influence on either character going forward. Afton deciding to make the fun times to avoid being caught himself. If Henry was arrested, he would presumably be asked questions about who was there those days, who had access to the bunny suit, etc. It would've been enough to confirm it was Afton who did it. Its why he would immediately force Afton out of the comoa without even telling him. Its why he would specifically program animatronics in his next location to heavily prioritize security and have facial recognition software. He couldn't prove it was Afton. But he would never let that monster step foot in his restaurant ever again. Unfortunately Afton never need to step inside get his revenge.
