"We bought Pop Smoke over for his first ever UK show. At the time he only had a few tracks out, but the show sold out within seconds, then the show was upgraded to a bigger venue. That sold out, and it was one of the hottest shows of 2019.
In 2020 he was back in the UK, I connected with him for an in-depth interview which was nothing but inspiring. It provided a glimpse of an artist who was on a path to greatness.
He was a very cool guy. He genuinely loved the UK and wanted to spend more time out here. He could talk in detail about his appreciation of artists such as Skepta, Fredo, J Hus, Headie one, and DBE. He already knew about the newer UK artists coming through, and was keen to learn more.
All of this makes his passing even more more difficult to accept or understand.
I hate doing tribute posts for people that had a very real calling to make some kind of difference or change. It’s heart wrenching. I’m just reflecting on the few moments that I knew him for. I can’t begin to imagine what his close friends and family are going through right now.
