*******CRITIQUES, RULES, AND NOTES*******
Be aware of the following rules before posting comments:
- Please do not post summaries of the video in the comments - it damages retention on the video and KZhead is less likely to promote it (these videos cost me a lot of money to produce).
Critiques of my work are welcome! Please be aware of the following notes & rules before submitting critique:
Be mindful that this content is not all encompassing on the subject at hand and is self-limited for brevity to reach a wider audience. Also, be aware that I receive hundreds of KZhead comments per day, so the only way your critique can be considered is if you follow the steps outlined below. Finally, KZhead auto-deletes links, so I do not see most comments with links attached.
RULES:
If your comment is rude, you will be banned.
If your comment is not about the studies/topics at hand (i.e. extending to other outcomes not discussed) or offers critique with no scientific basis, it is unlikely to receive a response.
If you can follow these rules, I will try to address your critique and if there is merit, I will add an AMENDMENT to the content in question and pin it so everyone can see it (thank you!).

  • Nic - Thanks for distilling research into actionable insights while providing the RDA of dad jokes. I’ve watched your channel for years. I gave up ultra processed foods. Increased my diet of Omega 3 fatty fish, low fat dairy, healthy fruits (blackberries, avocados, blueberries), nuts (walnuts, pecans, macadamias), seeds (chia, flax), dark leafy greens and cruciferous veggies. You’ve helped teach me to make informed choices. I walk six days a week getting an average of 15,000 steps per day. Reduced my HbA1c from 6.3 to 5.1 while improving my AST and ALT. Dropped 85 pounds. Reversed my NAFLD and pre Diabetes. Did it all without surgery or GLP-1 agonists. My doctor has been impressed. Your insights have truly helped. Thank you. 🙏🏼

    • @@Physionic Please do. Share if it will help others. I’m still on the journey - it’s not a destination. My doctor gave me options of GLP-1 injections, a gastric procedure or diet/lifestyle. He said that I would need to change diet/lifestyle even with surgery or injections. I chose to not go the medical intervention routes because of the risks and side effects. It has been 2-1/2 years since I started. Now I have normal triglycerides, normal fasting glucose and insulin, and optimal HDL, LDL and VLDL. My blood pressure last night was 111/61 with a pulse of 57. My breakfast this morning was coffee with monk fruit sweetener, smoked wild salmon with avocado on a medium low carb tortilla, and a 1/2 cup of steel cut oatmeal…the traditional stove cooked version, not instant, not sweetened and not flavored. I am still obese but I am 15 pounds from my next goal of merely being overweight. I now have one chin…I think that is the maximum number of chins I’m supposed to have.

  • I would LOVE to see studies on creatine’s effect on depression, sleep, and brain injuries. For context I’m a 33yr old male, I’ve battled with depression for the last couple decades and had a rather serious TBI in the frontal lobe a couple weeks before my 10th birthday which likely have contributed to it. I went from a star student, top 1% test performer in the state, to not being able to copy the date off the white board because my working memory was wiped, my personality changed over night, and I now have virtually no memory of my childhood prior among a list of other problems. It was rough to put it lightly. Well, cut to the last couple months I decided to start intermittent fasting, low carb/ high protein diet and working out. Sure it helped the mood a little and I saw some mild muscle gains and fairly considerable fat loss. Nice, but for the most part was still my practically emotionally nonexistent self. One day on a whim I decided I’d try creatine to help push a little harder at the gym. That afternoon I remember while playing with my friend’s dog thinking just how nice the moment was with the sky so wildly blue, the grass vividly green, and how nice it felt. I realized I hadn’t felt that relaxed, appreciative happiness in years, possibly decades. That night I slept 9 hours straight and had complex, detailed, full vivid color dreams. I hadn’t dreamt like that since I was a kid. Dreams had always been vague, brief, forgettable, abstract nothingness for as long as I could remember. Now whether it’s a rest day or not I take the stuff. It’s potentially saved me from myself. I get that makes me an odd case but I suspect I’m not the only person this could help. My parents who, I see fairly regularly seemed to immediately pick up on the fact that my energy and mood has been elevated. Obviously the asked if I felt it was all the diet and I explained that I truly felt it was the creatine. Out of curiosity, both of them tried it as well. My mother who struggled with getting restful sleep reported she too dreamt way more vividly and for longer and my father who also battles depression seemed to have alleviated the symptoms (though not quite to the same degree I had). I’m absolutely amazed given how well studied it’s been in the athletic side for decades that there hasn’t been much research on the cognitive effects, as I’m sure I’m not the first to have noticed these benefits.

  • on the comment about youth, I used to get that a lot in my 20's but I lived through it and tried (probably failed) to not get a chip on my shoulder, by my late 30's that all went away. These days I prefer to not even bring my qualifications to bear and believe that "my arguments should stand on their own"; which I believe. However the combination of "outright dunning kruger" and "the increasing complexity of the basis of the metabolism upon which the arguments rest" can be beyond most people. Heck even Sabine Hossenfelder admits herself that some arguments rest on knowledge that she doesn't have. I'm quite a fan of your channel, and seldom double check your interpretations (because I've got not time to read 250 studies) as I have solid faith in your intentions. Keep it up, and Best Wishes

I started going to the gym beginning of this year as a 59 year old massive gains , front about 1 pull up to over 10 at a time , knees no twinging . Good muscle growth and weight loss . Cycle fast to and from gym , easy to pump it all the way and back . Except Sunday drive and do HIIT first on step and then elliptical . Elliptical is very gentle, no chance to shoot off, no jarring etc , easy to stop

How does homocysteine affect the liver, pancreas and kidneys, for example? I feel these matters get such little attention paid them. I’m curious to know if there is a time threshold from the point of “quitting” (or extracting oneself from smoking environments) that determines the longevity effect? Or does the potential of effect just increase as time distances one from the environment?

  • Great summaries. Just a reminder creatine only helps with short-term memory not long term because of its mechanism of action (it just increases ATP). It will decrease NREM sleep which can decrease your ability to clear your accumulated neural toxins/waste products at night during deep sleep so take it in small doses if you wish to take it. In youth you have an abundance of creatine and it is not necessary. Although it can be beneficial in older adults especially for those > 60yo, when levels are lower, if you have kidney disease, it can cause issues. It's pretty safe in younger adults, though some older people do have adverse issues especially in men with hair loss through mechanisms that are not properly researched (and most people "speculate" why it happens. Either way it can happen and is not just imagination. It does not affect everyone but a smaller % of men). Higher dose Niacin needs to be paired up with TMG or B12 and Folate to replenish free methyl groups that are used up in the methylation of niacin which also produces homocysteine that causes arterial-occlusive disease that can lead to heart attacks. Also in a 2024 study, high levels of niacin results in higher levels of two breakdown products, 2PY and 4PY, which are associated with inflammation in arteries and other adverse cardiac events. Over 3 years, people were found to have strokes, myocardial infarctions, and death. So please take all these factors into account before engorging in the video-mentioned supplements for "longevity" :D

  • Excellent content. Can you look into making a YT video about Interleukin 6 (IL-6) in relation to Heart disease and Osteoporosis. I have checked all of your videos and surprisingly this has never been covered specifically although it has been mentioned in some videos. If levels are elevated consistently IL-6 can increase the activity of osteoclasts causing excess bone loss and have an inflammatory effect on arteries. It plays a role in many other conditions when consistently elevated. A real nasty character! (Coincidentally I do have osteoporosis and heart disease). By chance my recent blood test showed an elevated level of IL-6 but surprisingly normal CRP. There is a lot of "academic" content on line so it would be great if you can explain what it means. From what I can find online IL-6 levels can increase exponentially with exercise but apparently drop rapidly. I am trying to get some professional advice on my result. My family doctor had never heard of IL-6 and worse still could not advise which specialty she could refer me to. Maybe you could interview the relevant specialist (probably in immunology). I'm seeing so many different people saying different things about this... some saying it can be as much as 25% more for protein than carbs / fat. Which would be a massive swing in net calories if you eat much more protein than a carb / fat heavy diet 🤔

He has no problem falling asleep but, staying asleep is the big one. He wakes up every hour and some nights, or most, he lays there wide awake. He’s talking magnesium. I’m just wondering if he could have developed some kind of deficiency as a child. Anyway, please, I know he’s not the only one. I too have terrible sleep problems but I’m more concerned about the hubs. Thanks so much! I’m a new sub here so 😉

  • Well this is particularly relevant to me as although in my late 40s I still have a six pack and very little fat under my skin also good muscle mass. But I was told i have fatty liver and only just under the pre diabetes range. As I have cut abs etc and keep fit it really surprised me.

    @marcusgotts2938@marcusgotts293814 күн бұрын
    • This is exactly my reality. It is still not quite clear how to "reverse this visceral fat". I've always been lean, good diet, sports, no sugars etc but I just got on the prediabetic range.

      @edjack5on@edjack5on14 күн бұрын
    • Reduce Fructose. In comparison to glucose, fructose has to be processed by the liver after absorption. Problem is, that fructose easily gets stored in visceral fat around the liver. Being lean while having prediabetic symptoms is something alot of vegans deal with. Thats because you essentially became insulin resistant. Which is one of the key primary anthropological evidence that we in fact evolved to be carnivores. We are adapted to high fat diets. That extra fat is susceptible to be stored in visceral fat, unlike excess calories from Fructose and glucose. So yes, you can be super unhealthy while being active and lean. In fact , being too lean is rather bad for our immune system and especially for our hormone levels. Bodybuilders know this very well when they get close to a show.

    • @@edjack5on you need to gain some skeletal muscle and get into a healthy bodyfat range of at least 14%. Once you are there focus on reducing load on your pancreas. This means going high fat and low carb to avoid high spikes of insulin and give your pancreas time to repair. If you are Vegan, i would advice eating more coconut milk for the fats ( not avocados, they are FODMAPS and will give you digestive problems). Make sure to get a good vegan bioavailable protein supplement, since the amount of vegetables necessary to get your proteins and calories up just isnt feasible for someone your stature. Add in some intermittent fasting to speed up the process. Im not gonna sugercoat it, but a low carb vegan diet is not the most tasty diet out there. Personally i would just advise you to go for a High fat Meat based diet, but thats usually not something people want to do morally and especially financially.

    • @@snakeace0 Hi, thank you for the comment, and advice. I am carnivore close, eating high fat and vegetables, avoiding fructose and carbs, and all sorts of sugar. Despite all that, as said, my blood glucose levels and LDL cholesterol are almost at the danger zone.

    • @@snakeace0 Thanks for your reply appreciate it, I actually only just started re-introducing carbs back in. I was already low carb and then full keto for a long while before my blood test. I actually went full carnivore for about 3-4 months after my blood test. I was loosing body fat by the day on carnivore but felt mentally fatigued and exhausted so after watching the energy balance podcast I have started introducing carbs again from clean sources. Not grains etc. But definitely won't over do the fructose. Been doing weights etc for many years. But suffered a bad back injury that set me back but hopefully sort this out. Lots of great advice and opinions out there so been experimenting to see what works... 👍

  • Im still using MB, just an 1/10 solution. Put it in a small spray bottle thats designed for mouth spray (for people that have issues creating saliva), mechanicly its perfect as the solution doesnt go bad becuase of this and you can take it with you as well. MB can absorb trough your mouth quickly and the rest of it trough your stomach. Its great, benefit are very noticable quickly. Big downside, blue tongue. Have to say as well, i had issues with my gums being inflamed, but using 1 or 2 sprays of methelyne blue (which is probadly 2 drops max) i got instant pain relief. It has this ability to enclose any inflametory material. And your body cells dont mind being 'drowned' in the stuff im geussing this is because body cells are part of an chain inside the body, where as any bacteria that stands on its own is being put out of reach of any resources to do further damage. Honoustly can only guess how it works.. but i just have to say it works very well for me. My biological age is 23 according to the fitdays health app, my actual age is 40. Its not an cure all or powerboost, its just noticably good.

  • The 5 Longevity Tips are a little weird. They omit stress and sleep (blackened room) and separate alcohol consumption and body weight from dietary habits. While smoking is acceptably not a dietary habit it should be pointed out that smokers with high Omega 3 intake are better off than non-smokers w low Omega 3. Other common nutritional deficiencies such as magnesium or possibly iodine and vitamin d are technically speaking covered by dietary habits, as is "intermittent" fasting, but are they mentioned at all - or is it an hail the recommended American diet paper in which if you are "overweight" (not distinguishing the healthy fat people) it is because you had childhood trauma (not even kidding)? I guess hygiene should be accounted for as well.
