At Easter 2006, the Steam Locomotive Nossen e.V. On 07.04. 52 8029 and 52 8047 hauled a cement train from Nossen to Deutschenbora and Freiberg. On the inclines, including through the Zellwald, the staff really let it rip.

Few people these days realize how much behind the scenes work and personnel a steam train required, hence their ultimate demise. watering,, fueling, maintenance, spare parts, and the technical and labor personnel to do it all. amazing.

They just don't understand how difficult it is to get a true sense of the scene from the resulting video. Very good work. The exposure was also carefully managed (in the face of some very bright skies). Also, no random music or blah blah blah chatter, just the sound of the engines. Thanks so much!

    • Yeah, the locomotives seen here are the BR 52(or Class 52), which were produced after 1942 in the Second World War by the Axis Powers. Approximately over 9,000 units were build. They were called the " Kriegslok" , as they were designed as a simple, robust and functioning steam engines for the transport of war material from the factoires to the frontiers. Thus, they were the face of wartime railway use by the Axis Powers, mostly the Germans , as they also constructed the Class 52. The 52 became , along with the Class 50,the standard freight locomotive in afterwar Germany. They remained in Service until the late 1980's, so there is still a large amount of these Locomotives left running in Germany today.

  • What a wonderful video. Thank you so much. These locomotives are instantly recognisable as DRB Class 52 Kriegslokomotiiven (or Kriegsloks) 'war locos' built between 1942 and May 1945 (7794 were produced in total). The long cowl cover which was a typical adaptation of the wartime trains and the 2-10-0 configuration is typical of the type. They were designed to be mass produced and last only10 years, but after the war most units that survived the war were still perfectly serviceable and continued to operate for decades. There are 5 of these 80 year old locos still in daily operation in Bosnia Herzegovina at a mine near Tusla. As far as these two are concerned, they were both built in early 1944, and were still in operation up until early 2012. I have been able to trace 52 8029 to the Mansfeld Mining Railway museum at Benndorf (town between Leipzig nd Magdeberg) in a photo dated March 2019. In Septemer 2012, 52 8029 was auctioned off due to the owner having gone bankrupt and in 2017 there were reports 52 8029 had been 'stolen or rather kidnapped from its location in Berlin by a rival club. 52 8029 also appeared in the movie "Enemy at the gates", oddly enough dressed up as a Soviet train (I suppose because of the red painted chassis, wheels and undercarriage).

    • Comes down to feel, The engineers are in tune with their engines. Much how two people pushing one thing work together Granted one engine might be working more than the other but the engineer will feel the difference and i imagine the steam gauges inside will give them an idea too

  • Fabulous video. Awesome audio. Editing was tremendous! Truly a great job. Subject matter brings so many memories of my childhood. I grew up in a town of one thousand in the flat Illinois plains but the town was crossed by the Wabash, New York Central, Illinois Central, Nickel Plate, Illinois Traction System (streetcars), and the Terminal Railroad. The wooden elevated water towers and coal loading conveyors dotted the landscape. Thanks for the memories.

  • Super video.
