  • Disney wants us to symphatize with Wanda for losing her imaginary kids even after enslaving an entire town, Thor lost his actual family, and home world. He's the most tragic hero in the Avengers and they want us to laugh at him.

Characters that didn't use to be excessive quipsters (Thor, Hulk, etc.) are turned into stand-up comedians, while the characters that actually *should* be doing the quipping like Hawkeye (who is boring as hell in the MCU) or Spider-Man lose one of the things that makes them unique as characters.

'I bid you farewell and good luck morons' 'Notice you copied my beard?' And yet he was badass, he was a soldier of fortune, he was on a mission of revenge. Yet here he's a dopey, bumbling, stuttering, 30 IQ moron, who exhausts everyone around him (the Guardians multiple times share a look of exasperation at him, like when he goes on a tangent then smashes the temple they were supposed to protect or when he gets told off by the kids for being completely aloof and not helping, or when he falls into the New Asgard pillar and everyone looks at him in dismay). A joke that mind you, might and I repeat *might* ,have worked if it were just some random warrior and not her. I mean it’s almost like the writers just completely forgot what she meant to Thor.

    • She doesn't die in the film, but I agree that her injury was treated like an SNL sketch. It seems like Taika is fixated on the idea that there can be no sense of loss, urgency or real stakes since it's a "comic book story" and thus inherently colorful and silly. The few serious moments in the movie were almost immediately undercut with jokes.

They only had one solid and good film past then, the rest have been messes with contrived plots, lazy writing and just mainly used for political gain than actually telling a good story, and the ones that aren't that struggle with a bad story, plot holes and just plain horrible writing and decisions. Like I'm glad it continued because we got the new Spiderman film which was a rare film these days, a movie made to entertain people with no politics or woke bs, and made for fans and not critics or twitter. • The thing about Ragnarok was, the movie had actual competent writers with Taika's humor being a good support. The humor was well appreciated as it came off the heels of a depressing Thor movie. Furthermore, the humor made sense in most cases for example, the cutting off of Surtur's initial speech at the start of the movie made sense as the ropes binding thor turning made sense. It was within the realm of sense of what could happen. That was also followed by another joke of the executioner's ladies being scared off by, lava dog goo. It set up his character well as an egotistical person who was more occupied with impressing them any chance, which in result made him turning away from Hela at the end of the movie a small, satisfying character arc. The main thing however, is how the script gives the emotional and serious moments a chance to flourish and develop instead of fucking them over with stupid jokes (*cough* Shrek 3 *cough*). Even as a dumb 14 year old, this movie felt, off. It felt like a cheap and boring movie that exploited incredible amounts of work with character building, emotional moments from better, older films rather than a fun, goofy but amazing story.

      @aroyalduck167@aroyalduck167 Жыл бұрын
    • Ragnarok was pretty garbage in of itself, it was just a movie that threw in as many cheap jokes as it could with no real gravity or sense of danger or adventure. What few scenes tried to be serious were awkward and rushed.

    • I not long posted agreeing to a similar post. There is no place for nudity and objectification regardless of the gender in any Marvel movie where parents take their kids to see it. As soon as I saw this scene in the trailer and all the hypocritical women would be shouting "sexist" and "misogynistic" had it been a naked Natalie Portman tied up, simping over Hemsworth like he is a piece of meat in the comments, I cancelled my Disney+ subscription explained why. I told them that this isn't equality or feminism (not the proper one that actually wants equality) but just misandry. Like, the part where the kids get stolen, there's a good bit where Thor calms them down and assures them he's going to save them, but then there's never any real fear that a marvel movie is going to harm children. Bucky finally escapes and is given the tiniest reprieve in Wakanda before now having to fight in a Universal war, which sees him finally killed in action all these years after World War 2. He's revived and what does he do with all this trauma, all this horror, all the endless nightmares and guilt and persecution and manipulation? He goes to therapy and first avenges his time as the Winter Soldier before then amending it by going to the people who Hydra used him to wrong during his time as a super soldier cyborg assassin for the death cult he once fought against. And these pricks try to force the opinion that Wanda suffered the same and more, as Bucky, Nebula and Thor? Absurdity.

He massacred countless pantheons with ease, tortured a god of torture till he broke, managed to enslave countless gods to make a bomb that would ripple throughout time and space to kill every God ever, held his own against Thor multiple times even when there were three of him and in the end Thor couldn’t beat him. It was only once he realised that he himself had become a god did his ‘child’, which he created out of grief and power, kill him, essentially committing suicide. His origin is also way better. He and his people were in a barren wasteland of a planet and had to trek through it. Over time members of his tribe would die of dehydration and starvation, all the while the priest would say it is the will of the gods and they shall be rewarded. Eventually Gorrs wife and unborn baby are killed, leaving him to raise their child. Eventually they died as well and when the rest of the tribe told him that it was the Gods plan, did he flip out. He denounced the Gods, called everyone fools and was exiled from his people, left to die. Near death, Gorr would encounter two wounded gods, one in gold and the other in darkness. The golden one asked for Gorrs help and Gorr went berserk, taking the dark Gods weapon and slaying the Golden God. Believing all gods were selfish, uncaring and cruel beings, unworthy to live let alone be worshipped. From that point on he made his vow, “All Gods Must die.”

    • I am in complete agreement on this. This one scene alone, and its blatant hypocrisy angered me so much that I wouldn't watch this crap if Elon Musk handed me a blank cheque to fill out. The fact that they have turned Thor into some himbo piece of meat joke is disrespectful to the character and they wouldn't dare treat their female superheroes in such a way. I had to explain to my kids why I was cancelling Disney+ and why I am now done with all Disney content. They will never see another penny of my hard earned as long as I live now. I also notice how all modern media is now also preaching body positivity and to not be "fat phobic" but that only seems to apply to women too. What men are being told by this scene is that they need to spend hours in the gym every day to get a ripped physique, and be one of the 5% very well endowed, something men have no control over, like their height. Essentially the same lie told by the adult industry which is shown to have a damaging effect on young men as well as women. Given the suicide rate is much higher among men, I find this rather irresponsible. I miss the old days when feminism meant wanting equal rights for women. I was on board with that. When Playgirl came out, feminists were saying "if men can objectify and look at naked women, then we should be able to objectify and look at naked men". That is completely fair and what I regard as equality. This, whatever this crap is, it is not equality, it is double standards plain and simple. The feminists these days are saying "it is sexist and misogynistic to objectify women, but it is okay for us to objectify men". They simply want to replace misogyny with misandry. Neither of which are good things to have in society. On top of all that, this scene and where they are going on about orgies, is absolutely not appropriate for kids. If my kids were 8 years old I wouldn't take them to see this any more than I would have, had that had been Natalie Portman or Tess Thompson tied butt naked and objectified in such a way. They shouldn't be objectifying anyone in these movies, regardless of their gender.

He was compelling, threatening, and terrifying (he actually made a kid cry in my theatre), but the problem is that he’s in a different movie from everyone else. • I watched a video that went over the God-Butcher story arc, and given what the Drinker explained of this movie...ya, Gorr was WASTED here. In the comics, he's not just crying over a dead child. He watched his people squander themselves in devotion to gods who never answered their prayers. He watched his son and wife die, all the while being told "just pray harder." He was thrown out of his own tribe for daring to question his people's unwavering faith as they starved. And then, when he actually got to MEET one of his people's gods, all he saw was a pathetic, mewling creature begging for help (the god had been grievously wounded in a fight with another deity.) Gorr doesn't simply kill gods. He LOATHES them, with a hatred so fervent it'd make the most hardcore religious zealot jealous. And when Thor gets on Gorr's trail and goes to find other gods, all he discovers is butchered corpses. Not killed; BUTCHERED. Nailed to trees, eviscerated, torn apart...Gorr exacted an undying vengeance against the very concept of divinity, and you could FEEL his wrath in every scene depicting his handiwork. Giving Taika Wahtiti a villain of that caliber was a mistake. Actually, giving him another Thor movie appears to have been kind of a mistake.

  • The one scene that really got me was when the whole town is arguing and Valk is managing not at all to maintain order and Thor just says "Asgaurdians!" and everyone stops and looks at him. It's almost as if the movie KNOWS he's the king, that he should never have giving leadership to an unproven alcoholic foot solider of a dead order.

    @Alastair_@Alastair_ Жыл бұрын
    • And Waititi managed to turn that into a joke also because actually having a male character get one over on a female character on who's the better leader (even though its Thor and we already know he's a proven leader) would've damaged "THE MESSAGE".

    • @@emeraldmilcham6041 Not just that, but it's earned in the human pecking order (and Asgardians). I know plenty of tall dudes who don't command respect at all because they have no self confidence, haven't used their brains to formulate strategies, and are not respectable in the slightest. But when a voice bellows out that you have followed and trusted and have proven themselves, regardless of pitch, you listen. It's not so much that a dude shows up and takes over, it's that Valkyrie hasn't earned their respect to the same level as Odin's son who they watched grow up, mature, and sacrifice for their benefit.

If Thor had a name like Thunderman for example, someone else could take his place. But you can't just take his actual name, and say you're him now. In the same way, Thor can't just become Jane Foster. He can become a doctor like her, but he can't actually take her name and identity.

  • Fun fact:The reason why Gorr's All-Black Necrosword looks so underwhelming in this film is because one of the All-Black necrosword's powers is too manifest any weapons the user want but they gave this power to Hela because they said that Hela didn't have any power that were exciting or cool to look at. The reason why the All-black Necrosword has this ability because it's the first and strongest symbiote made by Knull the creator of the symbiotes.That's why in the comics when Gorr gets the necroswor it becomes his new clothes and he doesn't hold the sword it just manifest around his hand. Sony owns the rights to Venom, Carnage, and Knull also all Marvel symbiotes which is why the movie doesn't explain or hint where the necrosword comes from. I wrote this comment for all the people who were wondering where the sword came from and they will never explain the necrosword because it gets destroyed at the end of the movie.

The script could have positively transitioned the Thor franchise from the angsty seriousness of Dark World to a Ragnarok story that managed to be angsty AND funny, BUT Waititi seems to be oblivious to when an emotional scene can be successfully lightened up by humor & when humor grossly intrudes on the emotional moment. So after Ragnarok, I had zero interest in going to see Love & Thunder - and sure enough, the same poor judgment he showed on Ragnarok but now on steroids. Poor Thor. And poor Chris Hemsworth - he deserved so much better. I doubt there's any saving the franchise now.
