NCOC HELD PUBLIC HEARINGS ON MAINTENANCE DREDGING PROJECT | NCOC

This project provides for maintenance dredging at areas nearby the Kashagan field that was previously dredged in 2021-2022.
Maintenance dredging is required to maintain the navigation depth of due to waves and undercurrents causing silting in various areas and due to continued sea level drop. It should be noted that the staggered arrangement of underwater berms over 2 meters below the sea level is based on hydrodynamic modelling to reduce the impact on water circulation and movement / migration of fish and seals as much as possible.
Similar advanced methods and equipment will be used during maintenance dredging as in previous dredging operations, such as using vertical density flow technology and hydraulic dredging equipment.
The ‘vertical density flow technology’ decreases the concentration of suspended solids and water turbidity.
As part of the maintenance dredging, all measures necessary to reduce the environmental impact will be applied.
The dredging area is located outside commercial fishery areas and special restriction areas to ensure normal spawning run of fish and migration of juveniles into the sea, water protection zones, Akzhayik State Nature Reserve, seals nesting and concentration areas.
