Ep 122 | DIY Polytunnel Doors | Does Every Poly Owner Have This Problem? | French Farmhouse Life |
It would seem that everyone who owns a polytunnel has the same issue with failing entrance zips; our ones failed after only a year!
We had two choices, replace the cover and have this problem again in a year or so, or build some solid frame doors - we decided on the latter!
In this episode, Peter builds a set of frames to act as the entrance door and flyscreen.

We have the loveliest supporters and followers of our KZhead channel 'It's a Wonderful Life'.
We remain committed to provide our content regularly, and of late, to increase the frequency of our vlogs. We have and continue to receive, many kind requests, to send gifts, or in some way help us financially with our channel.
We have given this a great deal of thought. Whilst 'Patreon' and 'go fund me' are out of the question for us, we feel the 'buy me a coffee platform' (or for us, a cup of tea!) would be a great way to do this, especially in light of its ease of use and non ongoing commitment.
Any contribution towards maintaining and hopefully enhancing our channel is very much appreciated, but never expected.
Peter, you are so clever and a wonderful carpenter. I bet Anna really appreciates your skills. You make it look so simple.
Anna really does, thank you :-)
Peter, I like the way your mind works. Without fail, I learn something from every video because you do such a phenomenal job of explaining the methodical steps you take to bring your project to fruition. You are a great teacher. Thank you! Anna, I’m sure you agree Peter is a masterful carpenter and woodworker! I’m sure the pergola will provide you both with countless hours of enjoyment. Blessings to you both for much joy!
Wow, such a lovely kind comment for us both, thank you EM!
In Anna and Peter's world there is always a solution to every problem. 10 out of 10 for this one Peter , brilliant. 👍
Peter I think you have found a market for the door it is ingenious idea. Anna is one lucky lady to have a man who can . Loved watching Peter and Anna😘
You need to patent it😊
Incredible the way you have so expertly improved the entrance to the greenhouse - looks fabulous and functional- Im sure Anna will love it
How lucky you are Anna to have your own JACK OF ALL TRADES nothing stands in Peter's way , where there's a will there is sure to be a Peter 😅😅
Well done. Amazing what a little ingenuity gets you. It is what is missing from a lot of folks today. 🙂
Peter, you get a big tap on the shoulder for this. They are perfect for the greenhouse, and they look great. ❤ The catapillars were cool.
Practically Perfect Peter does it again. Bravo!
Your ingenuity never ceases to amaze! Brilliant.
Everything you do you do it so well.easy to follow how you achieved it. You always finish your work to perfection.
Peter, just when I think you can’t get any more creative and brilliant, you do! love this channel and love you and Anna xxxxxxxxxxxxxx😘❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you Stella :-)
Well aren’t you clever Peter! Terrific job, well done!🥰
You are both wonderful people, I so appreciate you sharing your lives. Beautifully done in the tunnel. Peter you are a super wood worker . The lawns look fab Anna. See you on the next one. ❤❤❤❤❤
Wow! As always you don’t just do a door that just hangs, you have revolutionized the Polly greenhouse tunnel ! 🙌🏽 What you do for your Anna, is just beautiful. I love how you do projects with love for your Anna. ❤
Peter you think on another level !! What a great idea to solve the problems of failing zips . You are so meticulous in everything you do . Great job !
You remind me very much of my father, he was an electrical and chemical engineer that loved working with wood. Good job Peter
You’re a absolute genius Peter! Beautiful job!🥰
Pergola looks amazing, love the green house, too. Anna is one lucky woman to have such a skilled handyman around. God Bless!
God bless you too :-)
Wow! You have just made that look so simple, yet it was quite a complex idea. Showing more of your carpentry skills yet again. This is why we comeback for more. Lol
Thank you Bill, very kind :-)
I need a Peter around our farm great whatever you do. Love from Canada ❤❤
Wow, they look amazing. Well done Peter. Very clever.
Wow you've done it again Peter, just amazingly clever. Well done.
Peter , you always amaze me in finding eco ways to create solid solutions in your DIY projects. Great vlog & Anna will have fresh air through the poly tunnel Fly free hopefully Well done 👏👏
Your absolutely brilliant Peter you make it look so easy but I bet it’s more work than you make it look.
This one made me think Julie!! 🤔 Glad it cam out okay though!
As always Peter great job. Just love your work and the detail you put into it. Wishing you always the very best. Sweet couple. 🌷🙏
You are a clever problem solver Peter, The doors are ideal and make it more durable and practical.
Check that those caterpillars aren't the processionary ones, as they can cause skin irritation for you & your pets and can decimate foliage. ❤❤
What a neat and efficient job, clever fellow.
I really enjoy watching you get around problems Peter, so inventive 😃
Brilliant problems solving, as usual Peter! 🎉
Ingenious! I love the way you calmly and carefully plan a solution to any problem. Anna must be thrilled with her new doors.
Anna loves them, thank you VF L:-) onto the next job :-)
It’s held up well for being vacant all this time. Now we certainly have the summer projects sorted out.
Peter your work is always immaculate and beautifully finished. Great job! Lucky Anna to have you! Thankyou for sharing. What an improvement!
Thank you LTAL for your continued support and long lasting subscription to our channel, its really much appreciated and for your lovely comments :-)
@@ItsaWonderfulLife2 oh you are very welcome both of you. If only I was in Europe. Thankyou for such lovely easy to watch videos that I really enjoy. xo xo
@@ItsaWonderfulLife2 excuse my ignorance haha what is LTAL? Haha
Lovely job on the poly-tunnel doors, such an improvement! Pro tip: in future you might want to use narrow slats of trim board to hold screen and plastic in place. It makes it easier to change it if there's damage. Looks like a picture frame instead of dozens of staples. Caution about those caterpillars, might be harmful to you and pets and trees. Lovely video once again, thank you!
Actually good point and we'd prefer to do that, I didn't have enough timber this time, but will include when the panels need replacing, thank you
A pleasure to watch you at work. You are so clever.
Great! Now come do mine! 😄 I have a greenhouse exactly like yours, except it’s smaller. The zippers on the “door” of course broke within weeks. Following year we kept it closed with clamps. At the end of the second season we discovered to our dismay that the cover had in many places disintegrated in the middle of the squares formed by the reinforced lines. It’s basically a sieve now. I hope your plastic holds up better! We’re now building a proper greenhouse from old windows … 😁
Sounds lovely! We would love a proper greenhouse and I've pencilled plans for some already, just need to save the funds for this project!! Won't be long we hope :-) sorry to hear that you've had the same and worse experiences as us!
Wowza🎉. What a improvement 🤩🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻Beautiful 🌞🌈🌞
Impressive, Peter! Lucky Anna!❤️🇨🇦
Looks quite professional! You amaze me how you just whip these things up.
Peter you are very talented and should be very proud of all your hard work.. Anna you have a wonderful man and a wonderful life😊 I admire you both and always watch your vlogs and learn something new everytime. Well done to you both xxx❤
Thank you Caroline
You are the man for any job, you will have the right solutions to achieve the right results. !
You remind me of my dear uncle, SerVos Van Kovering. He was brilliant and worked as chief engineer of a hospital here for many years. He was as kind and funny as he was brilliant. ❤
Ah thats nice Deb, and what a cool name he has too:-)
Peter you being a gifted woodworker I’m surprised you haven’t built Anna a beautiful proper greenhouse. You have the land and skills!!! Shopping the second hand places I’m sure you can find windows. With a little research, cause all it is just a bunch of hinged windows and a door. It would be interesting to see what reclaimed building materials area have to use.
That's a project i would love to build for Anna, and I know she would love to have one too :-) once funds are available we will have a go!
Hello, I've an idea for a cheapish glass house for Anna. Use a variety of old discarded windows of varying sizes to make an interesting eclectic glass house
Anna is a very lucky lady 🤗👍⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐💐🍷🍾🍷 Love Sue❤❤❤🇬🇧❤❤❤
Aloha. I dont comment here much but I have to say watching the both of you is very satisfying. Peter, have you thought about (or are you) being a bespoke carpenter? Meaning someone who takes on unusual cases that need or want something built, added to, or built around something. Just by watching you, you have an instinct and skill for problem solving and creativity with your builds/projects. Thank you for all your time and effort creating these videos 😁
Thank you Brie, that's very kind of you. Whilst I love woodwork and joinery, I have no formal qualifications for that as a trade, but at least I can keep busy at home and helping friends. So glad you enjoy the videos, we promise to keep them coming!!
One posh poly tunnel, great idea as usual 😊
In Australia we call that a fly screen, we have them on doors and windows. Screens are a must over here 😅 Good job, the zips always fail 👍
Brilliant Peter!🎉
Such lovely work and terrific ideas.
Another successful project Peter, I bet Anna is delighted. I love the calm manner with which you approach a problem and how you resolve it. Thank you for letting me join you. Kind regards 🌹 xx
Secondhandrose - you've been a follower for some time which we truly appreciate, and your kind comments and reviews, thank you
Great work Peter. Anna will be very happy
That looks great! Very clever Peter!
Peter this is brilliant. You should Paton those doors on green house
What a new and improved door for the poly tunnel! Hope you don't have to chase it around the garden this summer! Cheers!
you do such niece things for Anna. So thoughtful.
My God absolutely brilliant!!!!! And may I say it only took 20 minutes for me to see this problem solved!!! You are amazing in every way!
That's funny Lori, wished it was on 20 minutes!!
Ingenious! If it were left to me, we would still be in caves (and lucky to be there)! Well done!
So funny 😁 thank you Jessica
Peter, the best door opening I ever seen on a polytunnel, good work.
Very clever. That will work well and be so much easier to use. I am surprised the hail didn't tear the poly material, but that's good. Best wishes.
+That's a pretty good solution for the polytunnel! Those doors are ingenious! Nice one Peter!
Thank you Karen :-)
Brilliant what a difference
I found that so interesting, love how you troubleshoot a problem but made me giggle that perfect Peter can make a mistake too by putting the wood in the wrong orientation at the beginning , love the caterpillars too x
Another fantastic piece of workmanship Perfect Peter. I do have a suggestion... The main poly doors may need a way of securing them while open, thereby preventing them from swinging back and forth in windy weather
That's a great point and we will attend to that! Thank you Sandi
That’s fantastic I love how you work 👍
This is a brilliant idea. Nice job. Enjoyed.
We have the same problem and have been thinking of ways the make some doors. But now I can just show Alan this vlog and he can crack on and get them fitted. Cheer Perfect Peter. X
Brilliant!! If we can help give ideas to others then that's a massive lift for us :-) come on Alan, get those tools out!!
Great results. Well done 👍🏻
Amazing how your mind works! Great job🎉
Really nice job on the doors for the green house. The catapillars are Army worms or bag worms , they will eat your garden up , I use a blow torch and burn them asap when I see the first web. They are not your friend . They will continue to make huge web bags and they seem to like certain trees. If it was me get the torch out. Maybe get the chickens to eat some .Love your posts
We have a similar problem in Texas. They're called web worms and make these huge web concoctions in pecan trees. They are a pest and hard to destroy. The worms themselves are very tiny, unlike your guests.
👏🏾 👏🏾 👏🏾 You make it look so easy
You are amazing… I hope Ann appreciates you …always beautiful work.. Touareg such a joy to watch.. so creative and everything you do is well done❤️
Thank you Vicki :-)
Bloody brilliant! So inspirational.
As always great job done xx
I am enjoying your vlogs a lot! thank you for doing them... I did laugh that you as an expert carpenter, made that mistake with the doors! Now I feel much better about my own skills! Once I made a chicken house, and because of the weather, I did it inside my house. I measured twice before I cut etc, and it was a very solid thing. Sadly, once constructed, I could not get it out through the house door, as I had done exactly what you did with the polytunnel doors, and fixed it together the wrong way, so it turned out lower but wider than intended. I had to take it all apart again and re-do it. I think we lived with it in the middle of the sitting room for about a week, til I got it taken apart and redone.
That's hilarious Lynne, at least we are not the only ones eh!! Anna would have moved the chicken in if that was us!!
A book is in order I feel!So clever..👍x
Wow Peter you are so skilled!!
My goodness, you are clever. Well done 👏
Pete beautiful looking The fly screen is brilliant for days Anna want air👏👏👏
Another job well done 😊
Cracking job once again Peter. Really top notch 👍🏻
Perfection as always. X
Such a good idea a patent is needed I think 😊😊
Yet another amazing project Peter. Looks fantastic
💕Anna must be made up with such great doors💕
Well done 👏
Peter, you are absolutely brilliant 🎉
Well done Peter......very impressed!!
Fantastic Peter, I’d put a hook and eye on each side so when Anna is inside she can pin the outer doors back so the wind don’t slam them. Unless of course you’ve done that. Lisa x
It's a great point LW, we've now done exactly that!! Should have thought of it at the time!!
Your workmanship is always impressive. Jeri Landers of Hopalong Hollow does a very nice job of creating a greenhouse out of reclaimed old house parts. You might be inspired by her build for your future greenhouse. Nice video and thanks for sharing your talents with all of us.
I will check her out Dr. Thank you
Brilliant---- just as I expected 😊
Brilliant work Peter x
A greenhouse is the answer mate! Got mine off marketplace for peanuts and putting it back together was a challenge but well worth it ❤
Will keep out eyes open for cheap materials for a greenhouse :-)
My goodness you are clever that looks brilliant. Good idea having the fly netting. You should patent your design. Anna will be able to work without the flies etc bothering her. Well done Peter. Xx
i would love a greenhouse but with the budget it will be a polytunnel also ;) well done on the wooden nice doorway , so much better 🥰 grts Y
Peter a wonderful job.Congratulations looks amazing.👍
You are amazing! You both are.
Excellent job Peter. 😊😊
Great solution for the poly access. Anna will really enjoy pottering around in there now.
Just brilliant! 🤩
