Yep - I played and coached tennis for years, running all over the place, backwards, sideways, jumping. Then one match, out of the blue while waiting to return the ball, I tripped over myself and ended up in a heap. Everyone was looking at me strangely, trying to figure out what was going on.

Ive been playing pool for like 3 years and I had a match once where I just couldn’t connect with the cue ball on the break. 4 times back to back I swung and missed cued causing an illegal break. For reference, that’s a rare mistake, but I did it 4 times in a row lol

I've played volleyball for years. Never did a jump serve that made it to mid court because I suck at jump serves, and now I'm 60 and jumping is less in my wheelhouse than it was 45 years ago. We've ALL had a doofy serve somewhere in our lives. It's just like falling off a horse at some point if you're a rider. LOL!

As a volleyball player, this reminds me of another story of mine: So, outside of school volleyball, I play club volleyball. Me and my team were at a tournament and, for some reason that I can't remember, I was crying. After I had calmed down a bit (but still teary-eyed), I went to serve. I didn't do a jump serve like this girl did, but I served the ball and immediately fell soon after. I don't even remember if I hit the ball and it didn't go over or I missed completely, but it has got to be one of the dumbest moments I've had. Kind of embarrassing, but also really funny if you think about it.

normally well at least in HS only JV and modified teams get that in Varsity if it falls we loose the point

when i played it was if you even threw it up it counted. like if its a bad throw and you didn't touch it the ref would still call it as a missed serve and you'd lose the point :(

The rule is that she can't make an attempt to serve it - which she did. Her arm was swinging through with the intention of hitting the ball, so that counts as a serve attempt. If she had tossed it and let it fall without making an attempt to serve it, she should get a reserve. I think its great that the ref let her reserve anyway. TL;DR: She shouldn't have been allowed a reserve but I think it's cool the ref allowed it anyway

She brought her left leg down at too high an angle, likely because her shoe soles were so thick, so instead of planting her her left foot for the jump, she 'stubbed' her toe into the ground, while the right leg was moving in prep for a jump, rather than a step, was not prepared to then catch her forward movement. Just like when you trip going up stairs too quickly.

Volleyball overhand jumping serves are legitimately so terrifying to do. I hated serving, it's the equivalent of pitching a baseball but everyone else can do it too but pitching it poorly once means a point for them versus just a "ball".

I used to do this on purpose. I was by far the most reliable server on the team, and so when I would get into a groove the other team would call time-outs to try to throw me off, so my first serve I would pretend like I was psyched out just for fun. I would throw the ball up, but then back away shaking my head and just let it bounce, which you're allowed to do once. Then I just serve it normally. I always made it, but I never tried for an ace or anything, I would just play it safe. But in our last game the other team had game point but it was my serve so for fun I did exactly what this girl did, on purpose. But while i was on the ground I looked up and noticed the ball was going to fall right onto me, which would have counted as a serve, and would have ended the game, so I had to thrash about to flop out of the way. Luckily it missed, and i got to serve and we got a few points but ultimately still lost, but not because of my serving!

It's like a tennis player who tosses the ball in the air for the serve but then decides it was not a good (high enough?) toss so makes decision to pull out of the serving motion and not hit the ball but instead to have a do-over on the toss. She clearly makes decision here to not swing at the ball after she tosses it in air. Of course, she didn't have to fall down for that. 😂

Rewatched this 8 times, I still can’t figure out how she did that😂
She brought her left leg down at too high an angle, likely because her shoe soles were so thick, so instead of planting her her left foot for the jump, she 'stubbed' her toe into the ground, while the right leg was moving in prep for a jump, rather than a step, was not prepared to then catch her forward movement. Just like when you trip going up stairs too quickly.
Same thing happened to Kerri Walsh on the beach during a live broadcast on FSN. Just do a search for “even the best trip”. Hilarious! 😂

Volleyball overhand jumping serves are legitimately so terrifying to do. I hated serving, it's the equivalent of pitching a baseball but everyone else can do it too but pitching it poorly once means a point for them versus just a "ball".

The best part is this just loses the serve, not the point lol. Some rules are different though, some let you do a reserve once per set per team, some rules let you do a reserve once per ball that did go over

I used to do this on purpose. I was by far the most reliable server on the team, and so when I would get into a groove the other team would call time-outs to try to throw me off, so my first serve I would pretend like I was psyched out just for fun. I would throw the ball up, but then back away shaking my head and just let it bounce, which you're allowed to do once. Then I just serve it normally. I always made it, but I never tried for an ace or anything, I would just play it safe. But in our last game the other team had game point but it was my serve so for fun I did exactly what this girl did, on purpose. But while i was on the ground I looked up and noticed the ball was going to fall right onto me, which would have counted as a serve, and would have ended the game, so I had to thrash about to flop out of the way. Luckily it missed, and i got to serve and we got a few points but ultimately still lost, but not because of my serving!
In baseball, we call this a balk and every player will yell out. Nice job coach. Positive reinforcement 😂🤣😁

It's like a tennis player who tosses the ball in the air for the serve but then decides it was not a good (high enough?) toss so makes decision to pull out of the serving motion and not hit the ball but instead to have a do-over on the toss. She clearly makes decision here to not swing at the ball after she tosses it in air. Of course, she didn't have to fall down for that. 😂
