  • For instance, Wang Nan, she used to lose more matches against Lin Ling in practice within Chinese national team, Lin has more power and spinning. But Wang never lost any match to her in big tournaments. Wang is very smart and has great adaptation skills to always execute useful tactics.

    • Self-criticism has been systematically implemented among all sectors top-to-bottom in China since the very start of the revolution. It's one of the hold-overs remaining from the hard-core Communist era. However, it also has become something of a _pro forma_ ceremony, and Ding Ning's is a perfect example: she's really presenting little more than a boiler-plate mashup of sentiments and phraseology that almost could have been copied from some rice-picker's confession or police-chief's self-criticism. After 60 years, and probably 1 billion self-analyses by the Chinese populace, there is nothing new to say. This is part of the pathetic poverty of Chinese culture today.

I understand that table tennis is considered as a very serious sport in china but the way they talked about miu hirano was just very cruel. Look at Timo Boll, it doesn't matter if he wins or loses, he always respects the opponent. That's the true sportsmanship..

Right now they are playing against full grown adults. It's absolutely natural that they cannot be consistent against them.Hirano is fully aggressive on the table.Chen Meng,Din Ning and Liu Shi Wen ( I hope i spelled the names correct) are in perfect shape for table tennis. Miu is 17-18 years old and right now she is burning the tables and posing a serious threat to the chinese team.As for Harimoto...This kid has the potential to be written down in history.Skillwise he is perfect for his age and has another aspect that only Jan Owe Waldner showed on the table. He is on the proper spot faster than what he has to. He can read the ball.Yeah...he is just 15.What is he gonna do at 20-22 years old when he would be fully grown and a lot more muscular?

Third, a top player should be able to adapt quickly, you play me with this tactic, I can easily adapt to make your tactic useless.

Simply state that she has room to grow and that is being able to have alternative tactics and strategy to counter the opponent's. Diversity of playstyle is always important so the opponent cannot easily expose your weakness. Calling him a fool is a bit too much for such an objective statement...

    • Frans Rewl - I accept and honor your comment but still differ on certain points. While it is true that Miu needs to continue to improve on her diversity and alternative tactics, it takes rime to do this while playing the best in her sport. Her main problem is not physical skills, I believe It is phycological. She peaked at an unusual early age of 17 beating the top three Chinese one after another winning that tournament. The entire country made her the biggest star in Japan. She was on every tv show, everyone wanted her to do a commercial, many exhibitions. She clearly lost sight of her total commitment to TT. Shame on the JTTT for letting that happen to a 17 year old. Lately she seems more focused. Her skill level remains extremely high. Once she once again beats a top Chinese player who knows how great she will become.

  • Sorry but every time I see this headline, I can’t help thinking how disgraceful it is to Chinese TT for a top coach to lower himself to write this nonsense about a 17 year old girl who kicked the shit out of his top players. If he had class he would have simply congratulated Miu and went about his business of privately coaching differently in order to beat her in future. And his comment about “made in China” was equally as low life and again embracing.

  • What total bullshit. Every great athlete has a weakness because no one is perfect. Even Federer has had them. The reason he’s still no 1 is that he recognized his weaknesses and corrected them. Big deal that Chinese coach recognized one of her weaknesses. Miu is young and extraordinarily talented. Future no 1 women tt.

  • It’s remarkable that a 17 year old can cause Chinese TT so much concern and worry. Enough so that their top coach had to put out a video on how to beat her. I think someone should tell him that all great players have weaknesses. No big deal. Also he embarrassed himself by saying she is “made in China”. Low life remark which only.shows he felt he has to put her down. Miu is a one in a million athlete and he knows it.

    • Bruce Lin - no prove of what? When an 17 year old athlete can beat the top 3 players in a row on the biggest stage, you have to acknowledge that person’s greatness. It’s easy to understand that she went into a slump after that. All athletes who achieve greatness early, experience a down time after performing so amazing. She will and is coming back slowly. Her talent will emerge again soon.

  • I think Miu Hirano can still beat them all, also Ding Ning...... Miu Hirano was very good in shape, she also did say by herself after beating Kasumi Ishikawa, that she feels very good and strong physically atm and this is the only reason she did win over Kasumi Ishikawa and also the Asian Championship, she says that Tactics does play a role but not that much, for her is more important how good physically she can play, which does free her playing style on the table, making her much faster and playing more clever and aggressive. Also after the Asian Championships she did still play strong VS the Chinese Players when you look at the results and see how many points she have done, would she be that day again in a very good physical condition - I think it would be no problem. Also Mima Ito plays very strong VS Chinese players she got now over a half year a depression in playing Table Tennis but it seems to be over. When they both won as youngest so many titles and did already play in double very good vs Chinese plays with 13 years old, it was clear to see that these is enough potential to grow even much strong and to become Top 10 players. They did play games where they did make 5 or 7 points in a game, what is amazing VS Chinese players without international experiences, still 13 years old and never(not much) face them in a match, there is no one ever known in Table Tennis was that far and good playing international with 13 and 14 years old, not even Ma Long and not Tomokazu Harimoto. They are now at this point today to be Top-10 players and now we will see how much and how fast they can improve to be No.1 of the world, which is still a long way when they do not improve fast and do not win their tournaments they will not make it, it has to be in the next 3 years. But they have really to hurry-up there are also very young talents in China coming-up stil 6 years old but far much better then Ding Ning and Ma Long at this age, they will be No.1 in 10 years or so. It was easy for Miu Hirano to beat Chen Meng and Zhu Yuling, also when Ding Ning was still on the Asian Championship sadly not such a clear win, also when also here the Games in Points were sometimes very close, you can see this only like this also for the World Championships and the China Open the other way around. The same for Tomokazu Harimoto who is still very young when he does still improve the next 3 years he will beat Chinese Top-Players with 16/ 18 years old. Also to say that the new plastic ball and other rules are not so good for Chinese players, what I think is stupid to the sport and has to be forbidden, it is very important that the sport gain in speed and spin. It is not professional table tennis anymore when even my grandma can get the slow plastic ball without much spin, it is a shame for table tennis as a sport, but also balancing out the Chinese Elite to the rest of the world and some players could forget their Table tennis career by this stupid new rules like mostly all defense players like Suh Hyo Won, Joo Se Hyuk...... even to play modern defense mixed with attacking does not make sense anymore and is soo hard to win now with the plastic ball, which got less spin and jumps off a little bit higher and is also slower - I hope the Ball companies will fix this problem with the plastic ball as fast as possible and are not think of their stupid money, but to say for today the plastic ball is by for NOT playable in professional Table Tennis. I think it is also sad that Mima Ito and Miu Hirano did not play double all the time and did stay together, I think there is no one will have chance today when they would stay together and playing double all the time till today, but the Japanese Sport Politics are making these decisions. New Olympic Discipline is now Table Tennis Mix Double maybe we can see there Miu Hirano and Tomokazu Harimoto as a Mix-Double-Team in Tokyo 2020 would be soo great.
