  • I love how Hannah is so careful with her words. Hanna when Idina's timing was off be like "I think she was rushing there a little bit." but Idina was sooooo off the timing.

  • Idina's earpiece wasn't working correctly which caused her to not be able to hear the orchestra, sitting in a different building, at all times. The Danish singer was 4 or 5 months pregnant at the time that was why she struggled a bit with her high notes

    • Yeah if that’s a real technical difficulty for her to do while pregnant (I thought she sounded great considering if it was, and the “cries” in the slide seemed deliberate to me) then she perhaps should have swapped with the German vocal as the German line was basically half spoken and wasn’t a real show off of her voice.

    • Other Performers were able to maintain their voice, some didn't, I think it came down to the era in which they preformed. Look at Shoshanna bean, she hit the same notes a Indina, and now is more an alto than soprano. Another thing to note was the role was written for Stephanie J Block who's vocal range is a bit higher than Indina's as well as shes known as a Broadway belter something indina wasn't AS established in at the time.

    • @@tizbean Opera sopranos can sing that E6 dozens times a day. The problem with that high note for the musical is that it can fail and will probably fail if the singer is not in a confortable standing position and with good breath controll. They use pre-recorded so there is not a chance to fail.

  • yes, Maria Lucia (the danish singer) is known for adding cries in her singing- she even adds subtle ones in the actual movie version. But I do also think it's more than usual- since they gave her a real hard part of the song, considering she is pregnant, so it must've been harder for her to sing. also: if you want the example I'm talking about- "Ud i et ukendt land" during the 1st chorus, the 3rd "into the unknown" she adds the vocal cry i was talking about :)) (also later in the song aswell!) + her vocal cries in "show yourself" (on the lyric: "all of my life")

But honestly I feel like Hannah is the only one I enjoy because not only does she enjoy the stuff she reacts to but she really really knows what's she's talking about. • The Danish singer at 6:19 is Maria Lucia Heiberg Rosenberg and she is actually a really famous and appreciated musical actress in her country, she also was the Danish Elphaba in "Wicked". The sound she did was added on purpose, you can hear it also in her studio recordings of "Frozen" and "Frozen 2" and it's actually a very difficult technique to learn, for what I know, but definitely not a "random crack". I'm not sure if it is correct to call it like that, but it is a sort of nordic jode/yodel. Another close example of a singer adding that kind of sound during her interpretations is Sonam Wangmo. You can find her videos here on KZhead. She is very used to this kind of thecnique, using it also more than Maria Lucia actually. You can listen to it especially during the song "Qinghai-Tibet Plateau" (always here on KZhead), but not only there, there are plenty of live interpretations by Sonam Wangmo using this technique. In addition, fun fact: Maria Lucia has been the very first pregnant woman ever getting on the Oscars stage!

    @Kiterpuss@Kiterpuss3 жыл бұрын
    • I can't stand her singing. She's pitcht, she's squeezey, the timber of her voice annoys me, and she's on record saying she's happy if she get 75% of her notes. *She fine missing every 4th note* and I just can't. Either she consistently doesn't practice enough, or she has less talent than people give her credit for, or she has horrible technique. Or maybe it's all three, but she messes up every time. • Agreed. Like, Idina signs 20 times better than I ever could. But her rhythm was off and the other singers got like one line and a bit of aurora sound each and some of the rocked that one line much better than Idina did her 10 lines. I get she's "the original elsa" and the one most know worldwide. But still it seems such a shame that she was performing mediocre compared to her usual greatness whereas singers who sounded, alt least in that moment, better than her got only one line.

  • This was so helpful!! I think I also squeeze when I’m trying to get a more forward sound and I have been trying to figure out what exactly I’m doing. I don’t do it as much when I’m singing classically in a mix because I think I’m more comfortable with a more raised soft pallet but when I start singing pop or theater I hear this weird sound sometimes in recordings. I started interpreting this as me trying to block out my breath somehow because in my head, while I’m singing it sounds normal but in the recordings it sounds more consistent with the rest of the voice when I let that breath come through. I recently started thinking that maybe the inconstant tone is me singing with my throat so I’ve been focusing on supported breath while mixing. This video gave me a lot to think about though! Everything that you explained in this video with the larynx really clicked!!

Also, I just wanted to let you know that I love your reaction videos. As a singer/voice student myself, I love how you are so analytical and take the opportunities to educate your viewers as you do these reaction videos. I've learned a lot from you. Thank you!

  • I really appreciate how respectfully you analyzed this performance (and all the performances you react to)! Honest question: I noticed when you demonstrated how to sing that third “unknown” without having the muscles tighten and voice “squeeze” as much that the sound of that note changed a little bit. It was beautiful, but what if someone wanted to have the sound be more like what Idina was producing? I understand the focus on sustainability, but what should someone do if they want a different sound than that “sustainable” note? I don’t know if I worded that very well or if the question makes sense🙈 I’ve just always been genuinely curious when people mention other ways to do it and I’m like “but what if they wanted it to sound exactly that way tho?” Anyway, thanks for all the content you create! I hope you’re having a great day 😊

  • I absolutely love getting to hear all the international Elsas but my favorite version of the song is still the Panic at The Disco version. Recommendation after doing Glee what about the "new Glee" of the TV world & doing some Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist? It's a fantastic & fun series with some great musical numbers.

  • I love your videos and I don't often say that about people who react to Idina's work. I've been a huge fan of her work for such a long time it's been hard to see people constantly knocking her. So it's refreshing to watch your videos. I also love how you keep doing the E and A sound because you're not sure her name pronounced. It's always with the A sound though. ☺️

Mine (as great as she was) sadly was very big on picking a favourite and a lot of the kids in my class could tell who it was… and like honestly if you where my teacher I would’ve felt SO much more confident to try and actually find my notes without over straining my cords
