Glad it's sorted. I would definitely replace the engine earth cable which is attached to the drivers engine mount. These start to crumble and it will give very similar issues. Any heavy duty copper strap from amazon will do. Once they become green in colour, its a sign of old age. Happened on my 2006 e65 730d with the m57n2.
The underneath of car is spotless . We dont salt our roads .all straps are fine.

I had a similar problem with an e60 M5. No error codes but I would either be greated with no crank no start or crank but no start. First, I noticed that it would eventually be ok if i just let it sit with the ignition on, it wouid come alive after a minute or so. I looked everywhere to no avail untill I noticed that the shift indicator would not be illuminated when expierencing the issue, and as soon as it came on that meant it would start. That let me to the same control box and eventually poking around in there i heard it click as it i was waiting. I actually sanded to contact inside that relay which made it better while i waited to receive the new relay. Easiest and cheapes fix ever...put truely the most painful to figure out. Car starts fine . Just ccc idrive blank . Instrument cluster no lights no life at all. Back windows dont open front do + mirrors ok . Boot needs key . No inside lights .no horn or wipers . Tested those blue relays with multimeter 2 terminals no sound .2 term do .

Is that relay otherwise known as Terminal 15 relay ? Might have been called ignition switch relay in the past ?
I had a strange one which I thought was a dead DDE relay. But it turned out to be the battery dying. It looked like a relay issue because the DDE wasn't providing a ground to trigger it.

Im getting 4B90 fault code on my BMW 335d 2007 its cranking and not starting up any idea what the problem is and could it be the fuel pump relay?
My BMW wouldn't start sometimes and I found the reason. It's quite an expensive fix. I had to keep filling up the car with petrol. Without it, seemed like the blinker fluid for the lights wouldn't work too.
How did you get ista. I can use inpa but cant find a legit ista these days.

the relay was my bet. its a shame the system has a senser for the battary as the car wont sleep if you add aftermarket sounds... even haveing the key too close to the car at night the car will drain. It needs to sleep

i HAD SAME ISSUES WITH A BMW 630I IT WAS THERMAL RELATED ECU ISSUE, I CHANGED EVEYTHING FUEL PUMP AND SO ON, IN THE END I PUT HAIR DRYER ON ECU AND IT WAS WORKING EVERY TIME, I DID SO MUCH CHANGING BATTERY ALTERNATOR CRANKSHAFT CAMSHAFT SENSOR, ENDED UP SENDING TO ECUTESTING THEY SENT BACK AND SAID WE DONT DO MSV70, ENDED UP BUING USED ONE FROM EBAY ECU ALONG WITH CAS CAR STARTED BUT CODING WAS MISSING HAD TO GET IT CODED FOR 250 QUID AND PAID 220 FOR ECU YES I GIT RIPPED OFF BUT HAD TO BE DONE AS NEEDED THE CAR
My 2011 F25 X3 is not starting after it gets hot. So yours was the ECU?. I might need to check if my ECU is sitting in water. What did the hair dryer do? dry it out?
i think he may have been referring to thermal sensor actually built into the control module or possibly a dry solder joint

well done, would like to know how you find out its relay issue?
With it all being DDE-DME related it could usually only be the DDE ECU itself which can be sitting in water or the relay can go bad

I have bmw 320d e92 for 12 year now. Changed glow plugs and their module twice.. now with new glow plugs and module, heater sign on dash doesent show up, and if its cold its start verry hard. Diagnostic doesent show anything.. could it be dde relay?
What do you mean by very hard start?
@@GeorgeAusters cranking for 5 seconds before it starts the engine, and a lot of smoke for first 5 sec. The wierdest thing is that it doesent show glow plugs light on dashboard

Would it be worth doing like a high level video or introduction to INSTA? the tech needed and how to purchase etc....I'm using Bimmercode and Bimmerlink via bluetooth but feel like INSTA is going to give you a lot more info... I think that sort of vid would be really useful, and useful for all BMW series cars....

Make sure you get exactly the right one. They have specific resistor values to cope with EMF spikes. Get the wrong relay and it can zap your ECU.

BMWs are known for breaking down a lot. Ive had my Honda Civic for more than 2 years and its never broken down.
The more complex and luxury a car is, naturally it will break down more👍🏻
Honda are very reliable. It's rampant rot that kills them.
I've had a VW Tiguan for 10 years, 292,000km.... and it's been perfect. Regular maintenance. Tires. Two front wheel bearings. The thing is rock solid. If it blows up tomorrow, it was money well spent!
