I love how they casted a black girl for diversity and then cancelled out said diversity by giving her a stereotypical mammy character.
Right smh
Ikr it makes me angry that they always make the black characters have a shitty role like???
Dats what media does
i hate this so much i am black and it is not only shitty and boring but also exhausting as if all black folks act like that and all that cliches 🙄
It's the fact that there were LITERALLY only 2 people in the show who weren't White. The Black girl (who is disrespected so much but chases after the edgy main character) and the gay Black guy who turns into an ass halfway through the show. LET'S NOT GIVE AISHA A LOVE INTREST LIKE WE DID TO EVERYONE ELSE. Bloom, Musa, Stella, Dane, idk about Terra but even BEATRICE got romance. Apparently the show acts like nobody loves Terra cause she's overweight, so I'll just run with that.🙄 But Aisha? Once she's done being the voice of reasoning and motherly affection, when will she be given a chance to get her own proper story development?
The producers really thought that the fans want something more mature and darker just because we are already adults, and its like no we do not want that... we want the bright colors, glitter, magic and friendship power of the original animated series. Not a regurgitated version of Teen Wolf
Tell them again! We want magical flowers, digital powers, rhythms and tunes, the sun and the moon!
literally
At least give them better outfits bloom her color pallet was blues, pale greens Yellows. Like if they can actually make them look like the outfits in the series. NOT REDS
I can understand being recasted because she looks older but can we keep her dark skin. Not every black girl looks like zendaya
I WANTED MAGIC😭😭😭
When a cartoon from the early 2000s has far more diversity than it's 2020 remake live action version
Seriously though... Can someone please make a live action of the "Original" winx club fairies that everyone was waiting for?
Wtf is happening we had proud family, winx, totally spies, powerpuff girls, Kim possible, all this stuff that they massacring. Istg if they ruin bratz or try to adapt anything else imma riot
@PanAce Demisaster ok but they’re actually doing a good job with the new bratz show😭 thank God
@@noose04 Sure, but in the original cartoon there is diversity. The girls were based upon real life celebrities, and Flora is Latina, Aisha is black, and Musa is Asian. It’s not so much about diversity as it is staying faithful to the original.
@@noose04 so basically the creators were fucking lazy and couldn’t be bothered to actually look for a diverse cast, instead choosing to whitewash the characters. Thanks for the clarification, that the fate creators are essentially racist. Thanks!
Can we also talk about how drab, and dark they made the environment? Like this is meant to be a fantasy world, not Riverdale 💀
Ikr😂
nah, they really wanted a Riverdale 2.0, because I still refuse to admit that they even took inspiration from the cartoon, it's like an insult to the actual show
Even Riverdale is an insult to the Archie comics. X(
@@bukojoetheslapsoils8273 right I hate how they did the comics
Riverdale was a bad live action of my favorite childhood comics. I was so disappointed.
In the original show, bloom always wore blue to make her red hair stand out. Bloom wearing red for every. goddamn. occasion. in this show honestly drowns out the fierceness and boldness of her red hair.
Ikrrr, it shows that none of the people working on this show did little to no research smh
Right it really not that hard to throw a little blue with each outfit and add a other color to . They have use basic art Knowledge and use the color theory for the outfits.
Actually she use cyan outfits because cyan and red are complementary colors. No wonder her red hair stands out in the cartoon.
Also, blue flames are way hotter than red flames
And she just looks basic and hurts my eye to look at
Let’s be honest at this point Netflix only uses famous past shows as a base to bait people into watching their typical overdone and unoriginal gritty school series
like disney uses nostalgia to get people to watch the bad remakes
true
This! So much this!
@@jadesketch1726 At least the disney remakes are watchable. you can tell there was some effort
@@jadesketch1726 at least disney makes shit look pretty and cool
This show was like a hate crime against fashion.

And my childhood
YEAH BRUH NO TEENAGER WOULD WHERE THESE UNLESS THERE MOM FORCED THEM TOO (coming from a teen yes i got forced to wear these by my mom at family gazerings and i hated it)
And fairies without wings
Bloom- white Stella- white Flora- Hispanic Musa - Asian Aisha- African
Adaptation: Bloom: white Stella: white Flora: white Musa: white Aisha: Only girl of a different athnesity and stripped of her personality. Techna: *Non existent* Like 😑 is this 2021 we in?
NOT. ASIAN. Chinese. Please stop lumping us all in one box. She was based off a Chinese woman, and if you wanna say its ambiguous in the show at least say east asian.
@@Aisha_Luv goddddd it’s the race
@HANI QAIRINA BINTI MUHD SAFIZAN Moe Hispanic isn't a race, it's an ethnicity.
@@Aisha_Luv Chill out, it’s just the race, same way she didn’t specify where in Africa Aisha is from or where anyone else
Can we end the trend of taking kids shows and turning them into "edgy" high school dramas.
FOR REAL. You can create colorful, magic shows and talk about dark stories as winx did with the death of Aisha's fiancé.
Legit tho, I freaking hate it!
Lmao I read that they're gonna start making a darker version of the upcoming live action Power Puff Girls too.
@Isabelle sadly yes
It's the fact that those 'high schoolers' are 25 irl that gets me every time
netflix has to stop trying to "improve" shows by making them grittier and deppressing
Thank you so much 🥲🥲
Omg I know right!
Ik right? The grey, permanent storm cloud, 'dark academia' felt really depressing to sit through. Is this Alfea, school for fairies or Cloud Tower, school for witches? The color saturation felt washed and out bland, which in addition to their unlikable personalities made the show feel so...idk.. underwhelming. I wanted tons of glitter and sparkles, fun girly outfits, magical otherworldly backgrounds and scenery, because I KNOW Netflix has the more than enough budget to do that. Even some Kpop MV's from super poor companies managed to be more visually pleasing that this. It would be good if Netflix scratched this completely and made an entire new reboot. Taking all the criticism in mind and making this a stand out series.
I agree, they sucked all the fun out
It's bad enough they messed up death note and don't get me started on the Avatar the last airbender
Sherliza, the term that you're looking for in the "motherly black woman" is called the mammy stereotype or mamification! You'll notice that a lot of times black woman, like bigger black woman who do domestic tasks are often seen as really sweet women who care greatly about those they take care of. That originates from post slavery times when black maids were often made to take care of white babies. The stereotype unfortunately still circulates media today as evident here and honestly I didn't know because I didn't watch it and now I really don't even want to give it a try :T
0/10 don't recommend don't try to watch it just rewatch Winx and you'll be satisfied...
this girl HAS to take control over netflix. THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN ASTRONOMICALLY BETTER
IKR!!
The messed up thing is, they actually got East Asian actors to audition for the role of MUSA but in the end the decided to go with a white actor. So they're basically saying that out of all the east Asian females actors that auditioned, they weren't good enough for the role so they decided to white wash the character... it's just insulting.
WHAT? Seriously?! What the hell. This makes me worried for the new Netflix adaptation for Avatar. Screw you netflix ✋
@@xpepelee I hope it’s not gonna be another Riverdale... I will cry
Musa means ancient warrior in Korean. Or what they used to call their warriors.
@@Dtzeo503 winx is an Italian cartoon, musa (Latin, mousa/musae Greek) in the Greek mythology each of the nine daughters of Zeus and Mnemosine, were protectors of song and dance.
@@Dtzeo503 I didn’t know that by the way, very interesting! 😺 one more reason to cast an Asian musa!
They made aisha a mammy caricature, they discarded flora and replaced her with her white cousin. And, they didn't even try to justify the fact that Musa is also white washed.
Even then as flora cousin should had a little Melanin if she was mixed
They just completely forgot Tecna and I'm almost glad because they'd probably make her an extremely over the top nerdy troped character with no personality😀
Found out they're casting Paulina Chavez as Flora for season 2
@@monaalona4744 they’re planning a s2???? 💀💀
I totally agree, they didn’t even put effort into the casting! However- I’m just gonna point out that the person who plays musa is a quarter Singaporean so grew up with her mother who is just as much Asian as she is white. Pointing this out bc I’m mixed Asian and white, however then again musa was based off Lucy Liu who is 100% fully asian. Ig they were trying to mix it up but the actress playing musa is white passing and I don’t mean this to be offensive and I understand this as I am also mixed but I have very mixed feelings as I would love to see more mixed characters in shows but why change completely our childhood show- it was a very risky move and clearly didn’t move and wtf is with flora’s casting?? We all loved The Winx Club bc of all the pretty and colorful outfits and make up and ofc the storyline but it’s lacking so much that just makes it winx club and this isn’t it-
I would 100 percent have casted Anya Taylor-Joy as Stella! That would seriously have been perfekt. She has such unique and beautiful features!
Holy shit I didn't think of it but that's perfect
Omg yes
@@elisasoon6035 I was thinking about her but also here are my ideas Nicola Peltz - Stella Xiao Wen Ju - Musa (Xiao Wen Ju is GORG) and you don’t know how hard it was to find techna ☠☠☠ still searching Actually Alexandra Daddario would be PERFECT for techna if she was a bit younger. It would be akward for a lady that old (Not rude type of way please don't get me wrong) to play in a fairy tv show.
the fact that the sailor moon live adaptation kept the magical girl proves that transformation works even in real life, and mind u the sailor moon live was like VERY old. imagine what Netflix could do ugh.
Do u maybe know the name of the asian girl the op named before jennie?

Agreed,
RIVERDALE FAIRIES IM DEADDDD 😭☠️💀

mammy
@@BeautifulEarthJa Yeah! I didn't know there was a term for this, thanks
Fr fr. Her character doesn't even have a personality
I said to my friends when we were watching it.
@@BeautifulEarthJa the maid
It's like someone made a show for teenagers without ever having seen a teenager. The transformation scenes could also be made tiktok style, they could have even started their own tiktok trend.
I swear I saw girls on TikTok that would fit the roles much better and they wouldn't even have to change that much or act different, cause the style of Winx is super popular rn and a lot of people just fit the aesthetic so perfectly. Like yes, I wanna see ethereal fairies :/
aisha was a free sprit who literally didn’t care abt rules and was always defying the odds and surprising ppl with her natural ability for everything but in the live action they literally just made aisha the mammy sterotype of black women that has to mother and care for the white characters and is so strict with rules😭 Edit: also can we talk abt how aisha was a whole princess in the original but they took that out cause i guess a teachers pet was a more interesting storyline...?
Yes the whole “I have to make sure you all are safe and act right despite y’all not even remembering my name” even though they just met 🤦🏾♀️ was such bs for Aisha’s character. ESPECIALLY since in the actual winx series they helped save Aisha.
Exactly The Who movie made me mad especially when she got in the water with the braids, black women have to play the token black friend.
@@desireeallen296 I do agreee with this yess omg it’s annoying honestly
Yes omg I could remember her as this laid back surfer girl!!
Merel de Boorder She was a laid back athlete! She did surfing, motor biking, gymnastics, everything you can think of! In high school archetypes, she wouldn’t be a goody-goody teacher’s pet like they made her in Fate: The Winx Saga, she would be a jock/popular girl which is honestly underrepresented for black women imo
Even floras two blonde streaks of her hair framing her face is literally a huge trend right now. I’m so pissed with how they dropped the ball so badly with the fashion.
frrr even her top in season 1 is in trend nowadays
seriouslyyyyy
That makes me think that dua lipa could have looked so good as a winx :O though she's not latina
@@melaniepblc5754 She would have make a good Tecna in my opinion.
Right? The potential is depressing to think about. Deep down, im kinda hoping Winx club will get picked up and rebooted by another company and actually do it justice, JUST to make up for this lol.
As a black girl, I'm so disappointed in Netflix, as in flora and Aisha representing me, flora, shy kind careful extra Lolita feminine style, and Aisha / Layla, my skin, My attitude and my hair, I'm just mad Netflix white washed them, like flora is my Lolita nature style and fem girl, and Aisha a black girl with an ambitious attitude, they changed them so much, they white washed flora, they changed floras style and attitude so much, they made her rude and careless, and Aisha, they made her shy sad and less of a main character, I'm not so over stressed for the lack of color in the school as others are, but I'm stressed over the style the modernizing of the characters, making them so head over heels for the men when that's not how they are, they just did musa Stella and Aisha so wrong, but let's hope they cancel the series and start over and take the community's ideas,
Flora isn’t introduced until the second season. That white actress is not flora
As a white latina, I saw myself in Flora but, I was so disappointed that they didn't have a darker skinned actress for Flora because it just contributes to the colorism that is rampent in the Latinx community. Latinx people can be of all shades but, us lighter skinned latinx people are over represented in media and I would have loved to see a dark skinned latina be Flora 🥰
Same it was so disappointing as an East African girl Aisha and Flora where my favourites 😭plus Musa I was so invested into her toxic relationship with Riven💀
Terra is not flora. Flora is introduced in season 2 and is not a white actor
"They dress like women in their fifties" Oh thank god someone pointed it out, I had a glimpse of the outfits from the netflix preview, and was immediately turned away from it. They literally dress like my aunts (late fourties). And the outfits made them look older than the age they were supposed to represent.
Yeah they’re all like 25 and their regular clothes that they wear everyday make them look younger, there’s no reason they should look like 40 year old aunts
Yeah and specially considering that they are supposed to be teenagers and teens nowadays dress so cool and extravagant, like fairycore and cottagecore are such a huge thing nowadays it wouldnt have been unbelivable to dress then more fairylike
The one who did their costumes did Desperate Housewives. Let that sink in.
My mom is 46 and she dresses way better than anyone on the Netflix adaptation
My mom is 50 and she still dresses better than whoever dressed these women
Also can we stop making women like Stella who are outgoing and bubbly and talkative the “mean girl”. Stella had her issues and bratty moments, but she was overall a GOOD PERSON. She cared so much about others and was viewed as a shining light. Just because she’s extroverted doesn’t mean they had to make her a b****
IKR Stella was such a fun and kind character, despite sometimes being a bit too much she was a genuinely good person and that's why the girls and the fans loved her so much
PERIOD'T 👏🏾
She literally didn't want to leave her dying father during the Enchantix arc, what is so hard about writing a complex and layered character who doesn't have one defining trait about them
@@drawnwithlove3499 they didn't even have to write anything, they literally had frickin 208 episode of cartoon to take inspiration from, they could've literally copied her from head to toe, even half of her was better than this adaptation💀✋🏼
Yeah. If I were to hang out with Stella, I'd be so freakin blessed. Not Stella from Fate the Winx Saga.
Also Flora in the first season being the only character who DOES NOT care about boys and Terra's story revolving around being rejected by the boy she likes
Bc terra isn’t flora?? Flora is in season 2
@@bobbiemiller330 But she was originally MEANT to be Flora! They literally just threw the whole cousin thing as an excuse because they got backlash for whitewashing her. It doesn't matter if she is or isn't Flora or her “cousin”. They originally were trying to whitewash Flora, and that's a fact. So i'm sorry but your argument is not an excuse.
My son is a hardcore Winx fan. He's 12. He was so disappointed.
If they try do this shit with “Totally Spies”, I’m gonna riot.
Deadass they’re gonna whitewash ma gurl Alex and made her feminine instead of tomboy

Also I found Flora being so calm kinda refreshing because the "spicy latina" trope is sooo annoying and strangely we've seen this many times. I mean if she was like Stella it would work like this (kinda). But og Flora has another vibe and I'm here for it.
Ik this is late af but YES! Absolutely! I’m also latina and having discovered Winx when I was younger, I was immediately obsessed with Flora. Cause it was genuinely so nice and refreshing to see a latina coded character be portrayed as sweet, calm, and soft spoken. Especially cause her more shy nature is something I related to as a kid (still do ngl) I feel like this is especially a big deal cause this was a show that came out in the 2000s, an era that when we look back at it now, doesn’t have the best track record of having good poc rep in its media. But for winx, for the time being, I think they did a pretty good job at having a latina-coded character in Flora by not portraying her as a stereotypical spicy latina.
this actually kinda makes me sad because your adaptation looks absolutely amazing and magical, I wish I could really watch it because it would be so much more interesting and fascinating. I kind of feel like this show is a huge missed opportunity :/
Tbh Netflix should hire her
ok so I heard the main reason why they didn't want to refer to the early fashion was because they didn't want to "sexualize these young girls 😩" but honestly? i think this is such a gatekeeping argument. we're literally hearing everyday, here and there that women are tired of being sexualized when wearing what they want, so we're just going to not let them wear it???? that's it? showing at least a little bit of skin shouldn't be wrong. ++ lemme clarify my point; sexualization is in the eyes of the predator ;) let girls wear what they want!
bro thats MADDD bullshit. as if they couldnt just keep the croptops pretty low/with an undershirt beneath and stilll fit into the winx y2k brand
I agree but they could also be fashionable without being sexualized
Yeah, the original winx characters wear entirely OK outfits, it's not like they wear just string Tangas with nipple covers in the original
This ^^^
They don't want to sexualized teens but they go ahead and make them bang together. I love wearing outside of the box outfit so this is pretty bullshit to me because there is always a way to look good and not walking around showing ass or boobs
Winx Club is ONE show where I don't mind them casting extremely unrealistically beautiful people. Make it colourful, cheery, glittery, glamorous and cheesy and I would watch the absolute crap out of it! Seriously, as a child that was the appeal of the original Winx club, I didn't think "I don't look like that :(" I thought "WOW PRETTY!!!!" and I would love to see that live action. They already had so much diversity too! Like seriously, you get one opportunity where you can actually implement the 'unattainable' beauty standards like size 24 waist and shit, I just wanna see pretty people be nice and happy and a lot of friendship and love! Damn you Netflix..
I agree 100%...
Ugh facts!
exactly!
Literally !!! Make it childish make it unrealistic I DONT CARE
Yess! This!
I feel like Yeji from ITZY would play an amazing Musa. She even has the same talents as Musa being a singer and an amazing dancer. Not only that, but the charisma she has on-stage would really show through acting.
YES!!
As if JYPE would allowed her to start her acting career…I mean JYPE turn down the acting offer for one of the Twice’s member, what make you think they will allowed any of Itzy’s girl act… I get it they didn’t want Miss A Suzy 2.0 kind of situation, but still give them a chance to act, I can see Yeji as Musa though… (Quick Note: JYP and JYPE is two different act. JYP is the founder and the former CEO of JYPE, and as of now JYPE is under the new CEO’s management.)
She isn’t a fluent English speaker though. Like don’t get me wrong she has good english but I don’t think she’d cope well on an English only set, in an English only show with an English only cast

This video makes me realize that this is the PERFECT TIME for an adaptation, given the current fashion and cultural trends, which makes me even more confused about the choices that were made. It could have been an iconic/classic show that the youth today would grow up with, remember and revisit all the time...if they did it right. What a missed opportunity!

Yeah
But that was just too much to ask of us, apparently! The kids that are introduced to this complete debauchery will have a completely different impression and experience of what I experienced with the original (Italian and 4kids remake), and they highly inspired the creative side of my brain. I am appalled. Maybe the series would have been a great stand-alone, but, since it's NOT, it's terrible.. For Stella, I would actually prefer a more tanned skin, since you know, she's the sun fairy, but keep the blond hair.
i actually really like the idea of like their clothes materializing from their surroundings. For example, when flora transforms she uses her powers to grow flowers out of the ground to make clothes, or maybe when bloom transforms she uses her powers to create flames from her hands that spread throughout her body and make a beautiful dress, with stella she can use her powers to create light and her body kind of like consumes parts of her body to make clothes and beautifu patterns, for musa she can use her powers to create sound waves that form into some kind of purple wavy dress, for aisha/layla she can use her powrs to lift water out of her surroundings to create a beautiful wavy design.
Netflix: Let´s be inclusive by keeping a black actress and an actress that is not petite. But let´s take away the asian character and change her for a white actress.

The actresses that u chose for Stella were amazing! But i think another actress that would also suit her character would be Anya Taylor Joy with blonde hair. Her face is so different in a good way and she is extremely beautiful and gives off royalty vibes.
For goodness sake, not EVERYTHING needs a rehash, remake, live version or movie adaptation. It’s honestly ok to leave things alone. Let classics be classics and stop ruing people’s childhood. Geez 😒
Some of these people trying to recast the Aisha with Zendaya really haven’t seen other black girls in Hollywood. Don’t even let me get started on the cliche plot lines in the show or that trash love triangle. It literally gave me a headache
@@user-us7py1cy2k You're reading too much into it. I would recast everyone and trash the the plot.
@@sammylee5474 I can understand that but people who are doing these recastings on youtube are literally putting zendaya or Yara Shahidi as Aisha. Black women don’t only come in two shades. Plus Aisha is a darker skinned character and should be portrayed by one.

I was literally so sad that Flora just doesnt exist and we instead got this one girl.. like couldnt they at least find a chubby latin girl ... also why is it nwtflix is always like no chubby people but rather lets take a few skinny and normal looking people and one fat person... why
@MARIAN ALEXIS ORTIZ GIL MENDEZ yes it is I was just talking about how the main cast is alway very fit people and one fat person and never somone with a bit of belly or fat arms
@Muriah Clark yes like even italian or half caribian would be good

I loved how much detail you put into your vision of your version of the live action. I loved how you made sure to pick out outfits that would complement the fairy's personality and powers. I also loved the idea that you had about the transformation, like that is sooo much more creative than Netflix's version. Although the live action didn't include techna, I wished you could've included her as well. I feel like you would've came up with something spectacular and I would've wanted to see your vision of how she would look like in your style. Also what actors would you choose for male characters in Winx Club?
They should've added Tecna too at least, I mean she was an important character. She was like the smartest in the group and she wasn't pictured like the stereotypical smart friend with glasses and kind of ugly you know, but she was confident, pretty and had a style of her own that was still kind of different from the others (like the short hair for example)
i am so confused why techna isnt in this??
@@populationme She didn’t fit the “Dark Academia” aesthetic the show was going for, being the fairy of technology, so they cut her out. Such a _crime._
but it's good they didn't because she would have been BUTCHERED. that was the only thing that kept me from screaming, at least ONE of our girls is safe.
Thank you! I wanted to point it out, but I was afraid to bc this is about whitewashing characters, but ok, I'm not the only one who thought that, they did forget Techna. Though... I'm kinda glad they did. ❤ thank you!
ok but can we just talk about tecna's cute short hair like growing out in the i think it was the enchantix transformation like THAT DID SOMETHING TO ME
can we stop making “fat” girls in series feel like insecure and unlovable because i don’t feel that way and its definitely not a confidence booster lol
Agree
Def and why do we need their “journey” to being treated like a person. it’s tiring do I really need to see another fat girl be sad everyone else treats her like dirt for most of the time and then finally they all learn their lesson at the last possible moment. Would it kill them to just make her confident and happy from the jump
they have some weird fatphobia and homophobia things in the show like..
i'm so sick and tired of seeing it. fat girls can and should be confident ! what kind of message are they sending to girls who see this😐
@@nocturnal3427 it’s so old school, honestly. Does it really take that long for people to stop pulling the same old tired sh**? We’re all bored to tears of “fat girl is unloved”. Michelle’s ideas for the transformation sequences and character ideas are amazing. Girl I’m praying u get a director or creative director role in a rehash of winx. Ur ideas r spot on to the characters and their concepts.
WHY IS MUSA'S ACTRESS LITERALLY THE PALEST WOMAN AMONG THE GROUP???? SHE'S ASIAN GOD DAMMIT
Asian’s can be pale and she is quite literally pale in the show
But I agree they should’ve casted a Chinese or Japanese women to play musa

Plus they made Brandon a junky when in the real Winx he was far from that! and Stella Did not like Sky at all! She was head over hills for Brandon, I also didn’t like how they made Stella hate bloom for half the show! Stella was the first fairy bloom met and they were Super close best friends and hit it off from the beginning!
